Lose yourself in time holiday.

Travelling to the cottage was an experience in itself!! We didn't get around to emailing for directions to the cottage so, although we arrived at St. Yrieix La Perche with no problem, no one in the town could tell us where the cottage was. However, with just one phone call to the owners, they kindly directed us straight to the cottage, in the dark.

Once we had arrived being late it wasn't until the morning that we appreciated what a beautiful setting we were in. We even strolled the garden in our bed clothes and no one was anywhere close to see us.All the facilities were very good, and the bread, wine, milk and water were very much appreciated as it meant we didn't have to go out again that day.

The garden furniture was very comfy including the hammock, which easily lulled you to sleep in the sunshine. If we had had little children, then all the toys in the caravan, tree house and games indoors would have been brilliant.

The food at the hotel/restaurant at Jumelac Le Grand was delicious, followed by an evening tour by candlelight of the chateau. A slightly longer trip but enjoyable was to Les Eyzies, to see the Prehistoric Caves and then onto Les Eyzies- De -Tayac where you find houses built onto the cliff face. Well worth the journey.

Limoges is a beautiful, interesting city with a huge, mainly food indoor market but make sure you get there before 2.00pm when it closes. The Cathedral is a must see building with bright colourful stainglass windows.

The local tourist office in St Yrieix is very good. The women were very helpful and spoke very good english if you couldn't speak fluent french.

We would recommend Railway Cottage to anyone and everyone, who wants tranquility, peace and to lose themselves in time.
Owner's Response: Its a real pleasure to see that people enjoy the cottage as much as we do! Please also note - Directions to our 'Railway Cottage' will now automatically be sent with keys two weeks before your holiday date.

Peace and Tranquility

We booked our holiday for some peace and quiet, and boy, did this deliver!!! The cottage itself was beautifully presented and very comfortable. Loads of care and attention has been put into the facilities, including games, books to read, wood for the log-burner (a great touch, thank you!!) and lots of ideas about things to do in the area. Particularly lovely was the setting, amongst beautiful woodland with a great, private garden area, complete with a wishing well and treehouse! We completely relaxed during our stay!

Local amenities were a-plenty, with the local town had a great bakery and interesting shops to visit. We had a couple of sight-seeing days, with lovely country walks and found some great, typically french restaurants. This place is perfect if you don't want to be confined to a tight agenda, but want to chill-out and enjoy a relaxing holiday.

Thank you for making it such a pleasant stay!!

This cottage had a very homely feel as soon as we arrived. The owners had obviously put a lot of thought into the furnishing & requirements. It was extremely clean & it was lovely to have a welcome pack. The kitchen was well equipped & very easy to use & included a microwave which saved us doing complicated cooking. the local supermarkets had a good variety of ready meals if you need them. People locally in the town & in the shops were very friendly & helpful. St Yrieix has a big market once a month & there are other markets in nearby towns. Some very good restaurants are within easy distance, the one at the lake especially good & we enjoyed a lovely walk right round the lake.
Being a Railway cottage the line from St Yrieix to Limoges runs past but there were only about 4 trains a day with one or two carriages so we were not disturbed by them. In fact we liked to run to the bridge near the cottage to get a friendly wave from the driver! A day trip on the train to Limoges is a must. The city has so much to see & loads of attractions. Again the owners have provided a stack of literature & brochures to give ideas for places to visit. However the garden & lovely wooded copse is so peaceful you may not want to go out too much!
I would thoroughly recommend this cottage to couples or families, the stairs may be a bit steep for the not so mobile elderly.
