Newly built 70 m2 First floor air-conditioned self-catering apartment for up to 5 in traditional Greek village with spacious accommodation. It's just a short stroll to the sandy beach, sea-front tavernas and cafes. Perfect for relaxing summer holidays, a comfortable base for spring breaks and autumn getaways, and a cosy fire for winter time. The apartment consists of a large open plan living room with double sofa bed, single sofa bed and kitchen facilities, a double bed bedroom and bathroom. Large balcony.

Amaliapolis(Mitzela)is a picturesque seaside village situated on a large bay in the Pagasitic Gulf on the east coast of Greece, 53km south of the lively university city of Volos. It is roughly midway between Athens and Thessaloniki and so well situated for exploring mainland Greece, including the monasteries of Meteora, classical Delphi and other archaeological sites in Magnesia and beyond. There are charter flights to Nea Anchialos Volos Airport (13km) May-September. Motorway connections to Athens (approx 3 hrs) and Thessalonika (approx 3 hrs) are easily reachable, only 20 km away. The village is surrounded by olive groves and framed by hills. Across the Gulf lies the Pelion Peninsula with skiing in winter and beautiful beaches, mountain villages and spectacular scenery.

The village: In the village centre you will find a choice of cafes/bars and tavernas, with excellent fish, three of which stay open all year, all within walking distance of the villa. The village also has two bakeries and two general stores. The beach is also within walking distance of the apartments and is sandy and gently sloping - making it very suitable for young children. There is also a children’s playground, 5-a-side football pitch and volleyball court next to the beach. In high season there are 2 beach bars.

The Area: As well as the village beach there are several good beaches within a 30 minute drive. You can also take a boat trip to the island of Skiathos from the nearby village of Achillion. The area of Magnesia is rich in archaeological sites including Ancient Thebes, Prehistoric Dimini, Sesklo and Dimitras. Volos is a bustling small city with a wide range of shops, restaurants and ferry links to the nearby islands of Skiathos, Alonissos and Skopelos. The Pelion Peninsula is within driving distance with beautiful scenery - a good day trip. In winter there is even a ski resort on the peninsula! If you want to venture further afield both classical Delphi (approx 120km) and the Byzantine monasteries of Meteora (approx 180km) make fascinating excursions as does the lesser known archaeological site of Dion (approx 170km).

A hidden gem of a Greek hideaway.

If you are looking for a holiday retreat in the heart of a real Greek village and away from the tourist trappings of the Islands then this is for you.

Set in a pretty garden a stones throw from the seafront and numerous charming waterfront restaurants the villa is a wonderful place to unwind. Each immaculate apartment has its own seating area with awnings to protect guests from the summer heat and ample space to eat outside, ours had wonderful views of the mountains. A delightful spot to sit and read after dinner or enjoy a metaxa or two. The apartments are furnished simply but tastefully and well provided with everything you might need on your stay including an ample supply of hot water for after beach showers and air conditioning for hot summer nights. The beds are dressed in crisp white cotton and there seems to be an endless supply of clean white towels all of which were replenished by the excellent maid service.

At the end of the bay only a minutes walk from the villa is a small tree shaded beach, there are others too in waling distance around the corner but we found the village beach ideal for us with plenty of safe swimming and snorkeling in the warm clear calm waters for our young sons and a cafe where we could sit and drink iced coffee whilst they enjoyed ice creams.

The village is approached through olive groves and thanks to the directions, was easy to find . It had enough small shops and interesting little corners, including a beautiful domed church, to explore to keep us occupied for a week. If you want to venture further there are lots of other picturesque villages to visit within a 30 minutes drive. The village supermarket is bursting with everything from fresh tzaziki to beach toys, and hidden amongst the narrow streets are bakers and other small shops. The fresh fruit and vegetable sellers drive through the village each day, callng out thier goods ,and you can buy fresh fish from the fishermen .

Our host was charming and helpful and ,whilst not being at all intrusive, was very happy to offer information about places of interest and the history of the village and the surrounding areas.

I highly recommend Villa Grizanno and was quite miserable at having to leave !
