Overview

Seabrook Island House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

The wind in the palms, the roar of the waves on the beach, and pelicans cruising overhead... these are just a few of the experiences that make up our vacation home on Edisto Island.

We are located on a small barrier island surrounded on three sides by tidal marshes. From the hammock on the front porch you can watch egrets and herons fishing the high tide while wood storks and pelicans soar overhead. Behind the house is a tidal creek which is wonderful for swimming, fishing, and catching shrimp and crabs. Dolphins and otters also make this creek their home and watching them pass by is a truly special experience. A picnic table and bench on the dock is perfect for early morning breakfasts or beautiful sunsets.

The beach is accessible by small boats (canoes, kayaks, etc.) via the creek, or by short walk or bike ride. A canoe is provided for renters. Edingsville Beach is a stretch of unspoiled, almost deserted beach. The town of Edingsville was the beach retreat of the plantation owners of Edisto in the 1800's until it was swept away by the Hurricane of 1893. You can still find bricks, pieces of china and bottles left from this historic community. Shells, shark teeth, and fossils are a constant source of interest for the beachcomber.

Our house has three bedrooms: the master, with a king-size bed and private bath with a huge double shower; second bedroom with queen bed; and third bedroom with two sets of bunks which sleep four (4). There is also another bathroom with a jetted tub/shower. The kitchen, dining area, and living area are all open with views of the marsh and ocean. French doors and a sliding glass door open on to the screened porch and the breeze from the ocean can keep the house cool except for the hottest summer days.

Edisto Beach is only five miles away, where one can find groceries, fine arts and crafts, restaurants, golf, tennis courts, and the Edisto Beach State Park. Charleston is forty-five minutes to the north, easily accessible for daytrips. In Charleston, the shopping and dining are superb. Carriage rides are a favorite way to hear the stories of Charleston's past and see the beautiful old homes and churches on every street. The Charleston Aquarium, strolling through the market, and boat rides to Fort Sumter make for another wonderful day in the city.

We hope that you will love our home on Edisto Island as much as we do. Play, swim, or just laze in the hammock and watch the world go by... You are on 'Edislow' time!

About The Owner

We fell in love with Edisto the first time we came in 1989. We were fortunate enough to find the most unique spot on this unspoiled island and built a home for our family.

Why The Owner chose Seabrook Island

Moondragger's name came from a shipwreck we found on Edingsville beach. The quiet, the animals, birds, and sea life and spectacular marshes make Cowpens our favorite place on the planet.

What makes this house unique

You can truly get away from every day life when at Moondragger and find the calm that we all need.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"Well. That was just about the best time we have ever had at the beach, and certainly the best house! We feel so lucky to have been there. We all appreciated how pretty everything was, and how well-planned. I hope I can

remember how the sunrise looked through the trees from the front porch for those moments when I feel frazzled.

We heard a Chuck-will's-widow, an owl and a maniac flicker. Do you know what the birds are that walk around

in the marsh grass? They look like some sort of sandpiper, but they are big and completely brown and I can't find any in my bird or beach books that seem to fit the bill. I'm wondering if they are migrating.

Thank you so much for allowing us to use your house. It is just lovely. We all hope we can come again!"

Peaceful, private get-away.

  • 5 of 5

Great off season location. My wife and I chose this for a spring break from the long, cold, northeast winter. It was very private and quiet in March and we really got some time to relax. The island was fun to explore and location just 50 minutes from Charleston.

The house was set up with everything you need to feel right at home and we were able to use their canoe to explore the back tidal river.

Lot's of fun!

Best Family Vacation EVER!!!

  • 5 of 5

First advice I would have to give regarding Moondragger is- You will NOT want to leave! As a mom of three boys of varying ages it is hard to please everyone and find the "perfect" vacation where everyone feels like they got what they needed- especially getting what MOM needs. The minute I saw the photos of the crabs and the docks I knew this house was "special" and I could see my boys having the time of their lives- which is exactly what they did! We arrived with no issues and easily accessed the property. Every detail was just as was told- down to the bikes and beach gear which were waiting for us upon arrival. The accommodations are by far the best I have ever experienced and very clean and luxurious but in a comfortable way. We sleep on a tempurpedic at home so beds are usually a hard sell for us- I didn't want to get out of the Master Bed- so comfy! Coffee on the screened porch every morning, lunches on the dock as the kids played, early morning bike rides to the beach to watch the sun come up, late night strolls to the beach to watch it go down, and drinks on the porch to end the day! We spent a good deal of every day in the creek and even my Mother in Law went swimming. Delighted in kayaking on the creek and even tried our hand at crabbing! We ventured into town and found it very busy yet quaint. Grocery was amazing and well stocked- I won't bother provisioning next time and will just make a run into town! Lots to see and do for next visit but we have to admit- we were anxious to return to our little haven. We did not want to leave and after years of living in the Caribbean- this was the best vacation we have ever taken. Relaxing, comfortable, adventurous, secluded, and just beautiful. And for me, this was GLAMPING- glamorous camping- the best of comfort with nature just outside my comfy door!! The owners were awesome and were gracious and patient with us as were were a last minute rental. All in all, we have set the bar high for all future family vacations and Moondragger is a definite return for us!!! Thanks again for sharing your amazing home with our family- we are so grateful for the memories!!! We hope to see your house again soon!

Perfect Honeymoon Location

  • 5 of 5

Perfect is the only way to describe our stay here. Staying at this house was the ultimate getaway as we had the beach almost to ourselves the entire week. The fishing by the inlet was unbelievable and the crabbing on the back dock was successful as well. We caught our own dinner 5 of the 7 nights we stayed here - drum, speckled traught, crabs, even a flounder we caught in our cast net! We also took our kayaks to other islands to explore. The house was beautiful and clean, and provided the perfect ambiance for our honeymoon.

Wonderful Memories - From sunrise to sunset

  • 5 of 5

The location of this island home is perfect. We watched the sunrise each morning from the swing on the screened porch. Evenings we spent on the dock watching spectacular sunsets. All rooms in this home have incredible views . No need for AC (in Oct.) with a couple windows open we enjoyed the beach breezes both day and night. A couple of nights we were surprised by an owl hooting outside our bedroom window. We loved all the natural unspoiled beauty of this place.

The kitchen has everything you need from pots and pans to crab tongs. They even have a book on how to catch, clean and cook Blue Crabs. Which comes in handy if you have never been crabbing !

The living room is cozy and comfy with a fireplace. Lots of good movies and many books.

A bird book that helps you identify the many birds found on the island . My favorite book was one about old treasures that wash up on beaches from sea glass to china .We found some of both!

We brought kayaks and bikes from home. It took us about one hour to kayak to the beach (tide going out) where we found the most incredible shells ever. Also enjoyed riding our bikes

around the island. We visited nearby Botany Bay on our last day for some great photos.

Oh well, enough about our BVE (best vacation ever). You really must check this place out . You will not be disappointed . Thanks to the owners you guys are the best. We plan on returning next fall.

wonderful time

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I and our 8 year old daughter stayed at Moondragger in August and had a great time. It is a beautiful house, nicely furnished, wood floors all amenities you need. It has an amazing kitchen and screened front porch. We spent a lot of time on the private dock catching crabs, which could keep kids busy all day, and swum off the dock in the creek everyday. It is so peaceful there, we hired a canoe and paddled to a deserted beach where there are amazing shells and fossilized sharks teeth. We also took our bikes and cycled to a nearer beach and around the area, it is very quiet and safe. Edisto Beach is a really nice area for family vacations, very low key, not trafficky, safe for children to cycle around and we love it there, this house has so much more than a regular beach house though, being on the marsh with the dock and creek and the beach nearby and all the birds. Excellent stay!

Wonderful Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for sharing your home with us! The location was absolutely perfect for us. We made a point to sit on the front porch swing every evening and enjoy the ocean breeze. We absolutely enjoyed fishing from the dock on the channel and watching the birds, crabs, etc. We took our boat and enjoyed riding around the channel to the beach. On top of the view, the house had everything that we needed for the week. This was undeniably our best vacation yet! Thanks again!
