The former Tuscan mill has a large covered pergola (40 m²) with sun lounger, loungers with wheels, table tennis and -kicker and a large garden with adjacent forest (2 ha). In the house there are multimedia, such as DVD -and- video player, lots of movies, radio, cassette, and CD player, also has its own small library and selected holiday cookbooks.

In the first floor there are two spacious and comfortable bedrooms (25 m² and 20 m²), one with open fireplace and direct access to the large garden. If necessary, spread wood stoves in each room warmth.

Overall, the mill can accommodate up to six people, there is still a comfortable double pull available in the living room of the ground floor. Two bathrooms (tub / shower) complement your convenience.

The lower entrance leads directly into the modern, fully equipped, cozy eat-in kitchen (large refrigerator with freezer, gas hob with electric. Pipe, table linen).

Space for up to 6 persons

History of the House

Our mill was built of partly hewn stone and up to 1.20 m thick walls on behalf of a landowner in 1862, it also leaves the incised year on one of the ceiling beams close on the upper floor. Thanks to the water and forest wealth il molino was used as a grain mill and supplied the small village of Pieve di Chio with baked goods. For this purpose, was dammed in June the water on the side of the pergola in a ditch and thus operated at the mill needs. Unfortunately, there are to be seen in the bath only the filler neck of the grain from the upper large room down on the ceiling. An interesting impression of the past are the stone engraving in the kitchen again. This has made about his memories of that day by local artist and sculptor Alberto Bruni. After use as a mill il molino was inhabited and used by smallholders, without running water and electricity! Further up the slope was. a productive olive grove by a source with growing vegetables on the terraces. Unfortunately, in 1984 froze our olives in an indescribably cold winter.

In 1963, the property was abandoned in the wake of the great exodus. Like many other farms in the area it was empty. When we purchased it in 1980, we found a good building and have since the mill as faithfully renovated in often painstaking work: original terracotta floors and traditional wood-beamed ceilings, open fireplace and a centuries-old stone basin were obtained. So il molino could be expanded to the current standard without the charm of a "casa colonica" to lose. From 1983- 1990 we lived permanently in il molino and in 1988 came our daughter Marion in Poggibonsi to the world.

To the mill still include about 2 hectares of land.

History of the Val di Chio

The wonderful green valley "Val di Chio", where our mill is located, extends over a length of about 7 km and a width of about 3 km, and 25 km south of today's regional capital of Arezzo., A formerly important ancient Etruscan city .

Its fertile plain cultivated with maize, sunflower, corn, wine and vegetables, is surrounded by hills up to 1000 m altitude. These give the valley the rich green, because they are densely wooded with oaks, chestnuts, cypresses and olive trees, a paradise for walkers cyclists, mushroom pickers, painter .. that begins right outside our front door.

The Val di Chio presented already in Etruscan times (from 3000 BC. Chr.) An important link between the Tiber and Arezzo is.

Already in the Bronze Age, there was a brisk trade from and toward the Adriatic Sea. Later, watchtowers and castles were built to protect along this important trade route.

Favored by the abundance of water in many sources, had the valley later and even today a great importance for pilgrims and pilgrims.

At the sources originated churches, monasteries and accommodations. Even today you will find 30 churches in Val di Chio.

Our village church of Santa Maria in Pieve di Chio was first mentioned in writing in 1064.

From the 14th century, used the abundance of water for hydraulic mills to grind corn, grain and olives.

In 1564, 22 mills have already been registered in our valley.

Therefore he called the road along the valley today "street of the ancient mills".

Lovely house, lovely location.

  • 5 of 5
The title says it all! It is a lovely house and very well equipped with just about everything you could need. Everything worked as it was meant to (even the plumbing) and was very clean for our arrival. The location in the valley is beautiful. There are so many places of interest to visit within easy reach plus so many things to do in the local area that you could holiday here many times and never tire of it. You can have seclusion, peace and quiet, or be very busy. We did some of each. Our shopping trips to Castiglion were always enjoyable, almost without exception everybody we met was friendly and helpful. As were the people we met when walking around Pieve di Chio.
A real gem and incredible value for money.

Il Molino Juli 2014

  • 4 of 5

  • 4 of 5

Idyllische Ferienwohnung

  • 5 of 5

Absolute Ruhe in ländlicher Idylle

  • 4 of 5
Signorelli.

Superschön...!!!!

  • 5 of 5

The lovingly restored former mill 'il molino' is picturesque and quiet in southern Tuscany, 300 meters from the village 'Pieve di Chio' away. It is completely quiet in a secluded location on the edge of the forest to two sexy streams. A covered pergola (40 m²) with sun lounger, loungers with wheels, table tennis, table football etc. and a large garden with adjacent forest invite you to relax, walking and mushroom picking one.

Only 1 km away you will find a bar, a supermarket and an excellent restaurant. In the 5 km from the Etruscan town of Castiglion Fiorentino, you will find everything you need; Pharmacy, doctors, hospital, supermarkets and banks, weekly market, tennis ..

The beautiful old town with its narrow streets and the large city gates, and its bars, Disotheken, shopping and fine restaurants invite you to linger.

In our green valley Val di Chio you can enjoy hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. There is also a jogging path right through the valley, close to many swimming pools, Lake Trasimeno (20 km), tennis and football courts and many bicycle paths (2 bikes at the house).
