Vila Alice is a family home located in a quiet residential area in Faro, less than 5 minutes’ drive from the airport, and 10 minutes from the city centre. The apartment offered was once part of the original house but has now been fully refurbished to afford our guests total privacy and independence. The apartment is bright and spacious and offers one double bedroom, a shower room and a kitchen/living area. Outside there is a pateo area ideal for relaxing and also a private parking space. Many of the Algarve's beautiful beaches are within a short drive, the nearest being Faro Island, just 10 minutes away. Also nearby is the University of the Algarve (2km away, bus stop around the corner). Quiet, comfortable and very clean, this is the perfect location from which to experience all the Algarve has to offer, at a great price! We look forward to welcoming you soon!

Faro is the capital town of the Algarve and has a population in excess of 55,000 people. The city has both Arab and Roman ruins but most of the present attractive older buildings were constructed after the disastrous earthquake of 1755. The Moors who occupied the town in the 8th Century originally gave the city the name of Ossónoba and developed it into a trading port until 1249, when the forces of Dom Afonso III defeated them. Particularly attractive is the old part of the city surrounded still by the 9th century Roman walls, around which the city developed itself over the centuries. Faro is also the home of the Ria Formosa, a nature reserve of over 17,000 hectares and a stopping place for hundreds of different birds during the spring and autumn migratory periods. The municipal council has an active cultural department organizing different and various events during the year.

Great way to get to know Faro and the Algarve

We arrived in August 2009 with our young children to receive friendly Portuguese hospitality from the outset. We found the host to be informative about the area and to be very helpful with travel arrangements and other necessities. We were also very grateful to our host and his family for going out of their way to show us Portugal and to sample the way of life in the Algarve.

I would not hesitate to recommend this apartment to anyone (and their children) travelling to Portugal for the first time as our host made us feel very welcome and introduced us to many portuguese foods and places that we might not otherwise have tried.

A great family holiday!

A spectacular stay

We had a great time in Faro and surroundings. The owner is very nice and will always be there to help you. Thanks to him, we tasted the portuguese traditions and learned more about portuguese way of life. The place is clean and well-maintained. Many activities and visits are easy to do by bike, trains and buses in Faro but also along the coast. We would definitively recommend this apartment to our friends!

Perfect low budget accommodation

We enjoyed a perfect week in this apartment in June 07 with our kids (8 and 10) and have very fond memories of it. The owners were extremely nice and helpful despite having only a basic knowledge of the language and treated us to all sorts of lovely surprises (local fruit, wine and home made sweets). The apartment itself is very comfortable and was a real bargain find for our family. The kids enjoyed playing in the little pateo outside and playground around the corner. Faro proved the perfect base for exploring this beautiful region, as it is so central. We hired a car for three days and the remainder of the time we just used the local bus service into Faro and Faro beach. On advice from the owners, we also took a day excursion to a water slide park, which left from a hotel just around the corner and that was a great hit with the kids! Although there was no pool, we had privacy, quiet and a real sense of being among Portuguese people. We definitely recommend this place and would love to come back!

Our Stay at Villa Alice

My husband,daughter and i stayed at Villa Alice the last week of July 08, the apartment was stopless and the photos do NOT do the apartment justice. The hospitaly was outstanding and second to none, highly recommended , but we did feel that a car was required. Will be returning.
