At 5 months pregnant I was looking for a final relaxing, romatic getaway and Amygdalia Villas was everything I hoped it would be.
The villa was beautiful, exactly as it looks in the pictures, well appointed with everything you could need including extra's such as a hairdyer, pool towels (changed every few days) and mosquito burners.
Driving from Heraklion was straightforward (approx 3.5 hours) and whilst the final stretch as you leave the main road at Kissamos and head into Lividia affords spectacular views take care as it is extremely narrow and winding with sheer drops down into the bays below. Watch out for the goats that lay at the roadside and wander across your path!
On arrival our villa was stocked with some basics (bread, butter, fruit, orange juice, olive oil, soft drinks and a small bottle of wine) which was a welcome surprise and the minimarket on site offers a reasonable (if pricy) selection. Kissamos offers the closest thing to a supermarket to stock up from a wider selection and we picked up meat for the barbeque from the local butchers. Kisssamos is also the closest place for a bank.
Our pool area was completely private, well equipped and so peaceful that as you look out to see all you can hear is the distant bells from the goats grazing below. The sunsets were fantastic and we divided our time between barbeques in our pool area, eating the home cooked food (fish / chicken / lamb) in the bar / restraunt area and driving along the coast to the tiny hamlets with a small selection of bars and restraunts.
We hired a 4x4 and drove along the coastal track rather than the main route to the beach at Elefonissi - the coast road is only suitable for 4x4's and incredibly dusty and bumpy but if you don't mind that it cuts your journey time down dramatically. The beach is beautiful and well worth visiting.
Massage was available to book in advance (although I didn't try it) the full size TV / stereo system let us watch DVD's at siesta time and plug our IPOD in for music. The shower has massage jets to invigorate and as an alternative when you light the candles around the bath / jacuzzi it it's perfect for relaxing after a hard day!
Harry (in the minimarket / bar & restraunt area), Thalia , Maria and the whole family were welcoming, informative and couldn't be more helpful. We would definately recommend it to anyone wanting total relaxation and a little bit of luxury, we hope to return some day.
