BRET AND LAURA (US)

  • 5 of 5
The reviews for this extraordinary property are so glowing one might wonder if they are too good to be true...they aren't. We truly can't speak highly enough about our experience in this pristine and private, beautifully renovated cottage in the lush Loire Valley. We were able to experience the magic of France-the countyside, the history and the charm-from our own private retreat, a 19th century home meticulously renovated for the 21st century while still retaining the character of the original building (massive ceiling beams, 20 inch thick stone walls) and situated on a large and beautiful property teeming with flowers, fruit trees and vineyard.
Our hosts, Alain and Nicole were most welcoming and accommodating; just a joy to interact with. Besides a cottage equipped with everything you can imagine (and things we hadn't expected-luxurious robes, lavender sachets on our pillow, bedside chocolate, wine from their vineyard and YUMMY homemade treats made by Nicole straight from their garden) we experienced the much needed 'R&R' we came for-rest, relaxation, recuperation, reconnecting, renewal. .... ahhh...I wish we were still there. If we ever have the opportunity to return to France we'll have no need to look for a home base-we've already found it, our cottage at the end of the lane in Thizay. Alain and Nicole, merci beaucoup for a perfect vacation.

WONDERFUL STAY IN THE LOIRE VALLEY

  • 5 of 5
Thank you to Alain and Nicole for providing such a wonderful home away from home in such a beautiful setting. Alain and Nicole were the friendliest and most accommodating owners we've ever encountered in our travels, allowing for privacy but also very helpful, warm and always there when you need them. They were a delight and we hope to go back so that we can find the time next time to sit on the patio and have a glass of wine together. We loved Nicole's homemade tapenade - the best I've had.

The home is as everyone describes, clean, well equipped, quiet, comfortable and with unique and interesting antiques and decor. They provide binders full of local information neatly categorized by subject - we used the Michelin map extensively, even though we had GPS on our rental car.

I was surprised at the size of the upper bedroom - it is very spacious, something I could not see from the pictures. The house windows look small from the outside, but there is plenty of light and with Alain's beautiful lighting plan you can have as much or as little light as you want in the evening. The patio and the deck are beautiful in the morning and in the evening - the setting is pastoral in a little valley surrounded by farms and forest. The drive to Chinon is only 10 minutes and a lovely drive. There is a larger grocery store on the way to Chinon which is convenient and very well stocked - everything you need.

I can't say enough good things about Alain and Nicole and their lovely home. It's a find and we truly hope to return. If you are thinking about which part of the Loire Valley to stay in, I highly recommend this area. We would have missed out on staying in such a relaxing and peaceful place if we had taken the advice of a well know travel writer and stayed in Amboise. It's nice, but doesn't compare with the beauty of Chinon and the surrounding areas.

STYLE AND COMFORT BY DESIGN

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I have used VRBO/HomeAway and similar rental sites on several occasions for self-catering holidays in Europe and the U.S. This property is one of the best that we have rented in terms of accommodations, and it ranks number one with respect to the hospitality of our hosts.

Nicole and Alain (an architect) have expertly restored one of the stone buildings on the property into a beautiful guest cottage. The layout of the space, attention to detail, and blending of the building’s historical components with modern amenities made for a wonderful week in the Loire Valley. The location, in a quiet village about 10 minutes from Chinon, was good for touring the region; the furthest sites were no more that 1.5 to 2 hours away, and we had no trouble finding our way on the roads.

The bedroom on the upper level was spacious and nicely furnished. Although it had a king-size bed, comfortable chairs, and other furnishings, there was plenty of room to move around the room without feeling cramped. The flat screen television, and collection of dvds (with English language option) made us feel at home. Windows on either side of the room provided plenty of sunlight and nice views of the yard while the electric shutters gave needed privacy at night. The modern bath, with the separate room for the bidet and toilet, was well lighted, and the skylight was nice for enjoying a peaceful soak in the bathtub after a day of touring.

The open design of the first floor, with its large well-equipped kitchen area, allowed us to enjoy a glass of wine while preparing meals together, listening to one of their many music CDs, and talking about our plans for the following day. The cottage was superbly outfitted and had everything needed to enjoy our stay – even a large picnic cooler and freezer pack for late lunches out. Although we didn’t have an opportunity to use the inviting patio and porch too often, it was nice to have option of enjoying the lovely garden. The homegrown strawberries were the sweetest that we have ever tasted, and the late night cassia flower beignets delivered to our door will never be forgotten!

The cottage had everything one can imagine to make our stay a comfortable, relaxed visit in a beautiful region. We highly recommend this well-maintained and very clean cottage that reflects a sense of style without sacrificing comfort.

A SAFE AND PEACEFUL HARBOR

  • 5 of 5
Dear Nicole, dear Alain, it was a pleasure to spend a week at your cottage. Thank you, that you have hosted us in the way you did it.

The cottage is very well maintained, spacious and has two great outdoor areas. There is private parking in which very large vehicles can park safely. All this is exclusively available for the guests. The owners are living in a separate house next door. Guests are never disturbed in their privacy.

Inside the cottage – which is very clean - there is a more than complete equipment. Even if you are traveling from long distance with only a suitcase, you will find everything you need. Also Kitchen and bathroom have full equipment. The hosts welcome you with great products from the region - but the best things are made by the hosts themselves. Also let all your tourist guides at home. Everything is available and sorted by location and very up to date.

VERY COMFORTABLE RETREAT IN LOIRE VALLEY

  • 5 of 5
Thank you Nicole and Alain for sharing with us your cottage during our first visit to France. Your hospitality during our stay was outstanding including the home made jam and tapenade, the home grown wine and produce from your garden and the information and knowledge you provided about the Loire Valley.

The cottage itself was a quiet, comfortable retreat, located perfectly for touring the Valley each day and within easy reach of all the attractions in the area. We thoroughly enjoyed coming home, cooking dinner in a well stocked and equipped kitchen, sipping a glass of wine and watching the sun go down overlooking to garden. Everthing about the cottage was superb - spotlessly clean, extremely comfortable and all the small items were supplied to make our stay relaxed and stress-free. We have travelled extensively worldwide and this cottage was so much more than any other hotel or B & B that we have stayed in. This residence should be rated five star!

All in all a very enjoyable experience. We will certainly stay here should we travel to France again. I will be recommending this property without hesitation to all our friends. Thanks once again Nicole and Alain.
