The 2 bedroom self catering apartment in Porthleven, South West Cornwall is on the first floor with its own separate entrance. There is a balcony with table and chairs, and off-road parking for one vehicle is provided in the grounds of the property. Close to harbour and local amenities. Dogs welcome by prior arrangement*.

The 'Gables' is one of the oldest properties in Porthleven, SW Cornwall. It is privately owned and divided into two flats, with the proprietors living on the ground floor. It is close to shops, cafes, restaurants etc. and only 2-3 minutes walk from the picturesque harbour, beyond which is the beach.

The accommodation sleeps 5 people and comprises: balcony, lobby, dining area, kitchen/lounge, shower room with WC and wash basin. There are two bedrooms. The large main bedroom has a double bed and a single folding guest bed bed if required. The 2nd bedroom has a triple sleeper bunk bed, i.e. a 4' wide double underneath a single upper.

Facilities include: satellite TV, DVD player/recorder. wi fi, electric cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, electric convector heater and fan heaters. In the event of cold weather, central heating is provided. Electricity is by coin operated meter which takes £1 coins. There is off-road parking for one vehicle.

Porthleven is a picturesque fishing village nestled around its own harbour in Mounts Bay on the south coast of Cornwall.

Local services include: 3 public houses, Post Office, launderette, takeaways, shops, cafes and restaurants, local craft workshops, supermarket, church and chapel, small outdoor craft market in summer. Fishing trips can be booked from one of the shops on the harbour-side - Tony T Shirts.

There are lovely local walks and west of Porthleven, along the cliffs, the scenery is stunning and in the distance one can see the ruins of the old copper mines. Close by, to the east, is the beautiful Penrose Estate, where one can walk through the valley around Loe Pool, a large freshwater lake separated from the sea by a sandbar.

Further Details: The apartment will be ready for occupation from 3.00 p.m. Changeover day is Saturday and you are asked please to vacate the property by 10.00 a.m. on the day of departure to allow time for cleaning etc.

Please note that bed linen is not included in the price. For each double bed you will need to supply a double duvet cover four pillowcases and a sheet. The single folding bed and the top bunk each require a single duvet cover, pillowcase and sheet. However, if it is not convenient for you to provide your own bed linen we can supply this at an extra weekly cost of £12 per double bed and £6 for each single bed.

*Well behaved dogs are welcome, but not on the furniture please. We also ask that you ensure your dog is not left alone in the property at any time. An extra weekly charge if £12 is made for a dog.

The Gables is full of character and although located in the heart of Porthleven, it has room for car parking in the grounds of the property, unlike many other holiday properties in the village.

We took a holiday at The Gables in Sept 2009 and again in Sept 2010 so we decided it was time to write a review and recomend this great appartment to others. The flat itself is very clean and welcoming and is a lovely "home" to return to after a day out discovering this fabulous area. You probably wont notice the owner Alison because she quite rightly lets you get on with your holiday without intrusion but if there is anything you need or want to ask she is on hand to help, just as we like it.

Porthleven itself is a wonderful place with beaches, small shops, restaurants, 3 great pubs and a lovely harbour. There are also supermarkets and quality take aways all very close indeed to The Gables.
Last year we came as a couple with a rather large poodle called Dalby and enjoyed the holiday so much that this year we were joined by our 20 year old son and his fiance, there was plenty of room for all in the appartment and thy fell in love with Porthleven just as we had the previous year.
If you are looking for a great base to take in the delights of Cornwall and like the idea of a well equiped, well positioned and friendly appartment set in a super harbour town...then I think you have just found it.

Very pleasant stay in Porthleven

The people who rent this apartment are very friendly and enthousiastic. You immediately feel welcome. The apartment itself is very clean, spacious and has good facilities. It even has a little balcony to enjoy nice weather. Shops and supermarkets are around the corner.
Porthleven is a pretty village, and it has nice surroundings to explore.
We had a very pleasant stay here and will most certainly recommend it to others.

Great location - all we hoped for

Home from Home.

This accommodation ticks all the boxes, comfortable beds, an easy shower to use and a TV that doesn't need binoculars to watch. Also the dining table is adjacent to a plug, for those of us who need our laptops, plus a perfect view of Sky TV, through the door ..... what more does one need in holiday accommodation.
We were greeted by Ali, who immediately made us feel at home, to an apartment that is well loved and cared for, the photos do not do it justice, it has an unique character, which overlooks their garden. It was great to watch all the birds feeding from the various perches.
The lounge seating is very comfortable and both beds sublime, because one of us snores ...... (I am pleading the fifth amendment ! ) ..... we used both rooms.
The car was safely parked off the road on their property, which is a bonus, as parking is very difficult in Porthleven.
The three pubs offer different styles, the Harbour Inn a delicious Sunday carvery, The Ship various fish meals and the The Atlantic a selection for all ages. But we preferred The Old Inn at Mullion, as it also had a menu that catered for vegetarians and good value for all tastes, at reasonable prices.
Without hesitation I will recommend this apartment and hopefully we will return again soon, to enjoy the village and a base from which to explore the beautiful coastline and charming countryside.

Cannot keep us away

Just returned from our fourth visit to The Gables - we are sure it will not be our last.

It doesn't take long to feel at home, and the great thing is Porthleven has plenty on the doorstep for an enjoyable stay.
Every time we see something different, but the beautiful beach and sea are all of five minutes walk away.

No shortage of pubs, restaurants and other food outlets mean a no hassle holiday - great when you can just forget the car if you fancy a drink or a meal.

We found several new coves/beaches this time, but The Lizard, Sennen Cove etc are lovely any time. Flambards is quite interesting to visit on a wet day as the exhibits are indoors.

We are already looking forward to our next visit.

Porthleven is a picturesque seaside fishing village with a long beach, situated in Mounts Bay, on the south coast of Cornwall, 12-13 miles from the Lizard and approx 22 miles from Lands End. The town of Helston is 2 miles away, and the towns of Falmouth and Penzance are within easy reach. Marazion, home of the famous St. Michael's Mount is about 20 minutes by car.

The Gables is in the heart of the village, close to all amenities and about 3 minutes walk from the lovely harbour, beyond which is the long sandy beach.

Other Activities: Boat trips and fishing trips from harbour - weather permitting.

Golf: Nearest golf course at Praa Sands, 10-15 minutes by car.
