YOUR HOSTS Carol and Luis Gonzalez:
My wife Carol, from Devon in UK, and myself Luis ,having lived in Almeria in the south of Spain since 1980,decided to escape the hot dry, crowded summer conditions of the south by building a house in the greener and cooler lands of the North where I was born. Due to our social nature, to avoid boredom and keep the accountant happy, we decided to attach two self-catering apartments to the house where we could welcome guests who would like to share our love for the stunning open, green and mountainous landscapes of Asturias. We have taken the utmost care to make 'La Valdesa' as cosy and comfortable as possible for our guests.
MORE ABOUT ASTURIAS:
Asturias, is truly one of the most unspoiled and less known Spanish regions, described as a 'Nature Paradise' located between the Atlantic Ocean and the 'Picos de Europa' majestic mountain range.A landscape combination of sea, mountains golden sand beaches and National Parks where bears and wolves still roam freely. Asturias combines the emeral green fields of Ireland, the rugged Cornish coast line, the rural feel of Tuscany and the southern French pyrenees rolled into one.
As opposed to the relentless heat, dusty and crowded conditions found in southern Spanish Costas during the summer months, the green coast of Asturias enjoys pleasant temperatures influenced by the Gulf Stream current where tropical plants such as bouganvillias, date palm trees and citrus fruits grow succesfuly
ACTIVITIES AND COMUNICATIONS:
Asturias is about the open air. Popular activities include country walks, mountain hiking, climbing, cycling, canoeing, sea and river fishing, landscape painting, swimming, windsurfing or bird-watching in the estuary near us. Excursions and car drives will leave a lasting impression. The larger cities of Gijon and the Capital Cathedral city of Oviedo both steeped in History with interesting museums, culture visits and sophisticated shops are only a short drive away. For the gourmet, local cuisine is one of the most prestigious and best value in the country where almost invariably a meal for one,for as little as 9€, is enough for two hungry people.
Comunications with Asturias have never been so good with direct budget flights from UK into Bilbao, Santander, and Valladolid, all a short drive away , an 18 hour Ferry crossing Plymouth to Santander and the A-8 motorway from the French border a 4 hours drive away.
Golf:
Golfing is well catered for with at least six 18 hole courses between 15 and 45 minutes drive from 'La Valdesa'. The local nine hole course is only a 10 minute drive away. Summer temperatures rarely in excess of 25º centigrade add up to a perfect environment for the practise of golfing in Asturias with the added bonus of un-crowded courses an low green fees in beautiful natural settings.
