|Minimum Stay||2 nights|
Your duplex holiday home, equipped to a high standard, is situated right in the small and unhasty centre of Neckargemünd, but very quiet at the same time. Leave your car at home and enjoy the proximity to the suburban train to Heidelberg (Eberbach, Sinsheim etc.), to the ferry landing, the Terrassen-Schwimmbad, the ropes course and plenty of other attractions. Within a radius of only 100m, you can eat out and do your shopping. A bike rental can be found in the immediate neighbourhood as well. The fully equipped kitchen with modern appliances, dishwasher and Italian gas stove and the dining/ living area provide a lot of space for a relaxed get-together. On request, you will find a hairdryer in the bathroom. The bedrooms are on the first floor. In the mezzanine, you will find a double bed and a small cot, and in the separate gable room, there are two single beds. The small and cosy sun square right in front of the house allows you to linger and enjoy.
Historic and romantic living: In a unique and renovated 450 year old half-timbered house in Franconian style.
Holidays without a car?: Thanks to the Schilderhäuschen’s comfortable and central location, everything you need for your holidays is within easy walking distance.
We had a great weeks stay here but did have a few hiccups on the way. The house is really nice and very comfortable. We struggled to actually work a few items such as the oven and car parking without a guide book or some form of hints on arrival. We were able to get by as the owners were helpful on the telephone being on holiday themselves but it really would have been nice to have an introduction of some sorts on a personal level when we arrived. Location is quite good and the train to locations is within 5 minutes walk. Some of the shops where closed as this region of Germany seemed to have gone away the middle two weeks of August but the main ones needed such as bakery, supermarkets were OK and close. Local pool was nice and heidelberg is a 2 days experience. The museum at Sinshiem is also very much worthy of a days visit. There is not real outdoor seating here at the property and the house does back onto a road/path down it's side so you will be confined really to the indoors. The river and local gasthaus's though are within easy reach. I would also comment that the house has gone that bit further with some nice touch's such as the amount of cooking items, dishes etc, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, coffeemaker etc etc
A stunning apartment, centrally located with all amenities to hand. We arrived on Saturday to be greeted by Inga and told of the preparations for the Neckargemund festivities due to start on Sunday morning. We had non-stop belly dancing just outside our window, a beer and food tent in the little square. A flea market on the car park and numerous other great entertainments. Everything was packed away, litter, stage and tents gone by 7 pm.
We had really hot weather 33/34deg. c for most of the week but the apartment remained reasonably cool. The attic bedrooms were warm but not insufferably so. The apartment was clean, very well equipped and a pleasure to use. The one downside was we had to park our car on the local car park about 50m away.
We used the train to go to Heidelberg, the ticket giving us free travel on bus and tram. We visited the university museum, the student prison, several of the churches, and had an English tour of the castle. It is fascinating to trace the links between English and German Royalty from the 17th century onwards. We also travelled by boat to Heidelberg which was a super trip in the heat.
We had a couple of meals out in the gasthofs in Neckargemund but in general we catered for ourselves, quite content to use the supermarkets over the river and the lovely backerei around the corner. The ice creams from the eis-cafe were delicious.
Dominic worked in the office below and was always available if we had any questions.
I would certainly recommend the property to friends although those with young children might miss a garden.
Thank you for a lovely holiday.
It was a real honour to spend our holiday in this beautiful little house. It may look old on the outside, and indeed it is, but inside it has every comfort you could possibly need. We spent two wonderful weeks here and loved every single moment.
Neckargamund is a lovely town with beautiful buildings and the prettiest river we have yet to see in Germany. We parked our car up, and it stayed parked for a lot of our holiday. Bus stops and Train stations are both within a short walk and you can buy a ticket that allows you to travel on both. There is also the boat which is only 50metres away. There are plenty of smaller shops within 5 minutes of the house, but 3 supermarkets were only a 15 minute walk over the other side of the Neckar,
Just over the footbridge there is the most beautiful pool complex in a fabulous setting and as the weather was hot and sunny, we used it often.
We found so many beautiful walks and lovely places to go and also many places to eat!
We did use our car a few times and visited the Auto Technik Museum at Sinsheim which is a must if you have teenaged boys as we do. We also visited Michelstadt and Rothenburg o d Tauber, we had been to both places before and wanted to return.
A wonderful holiday, Thank you so much Inga and Dominic for making us so welcome!
we are a family of four from Australia, the kids are two boys aged 8 and 10. We just loved this romantic place. everything you need is here. a nice kitchen, comfortable lounge and nice bathroom downstairs, and two good bedrooms upstairs. The owner, Dominic, has his office downstairs. We were enchanted by the house. The town is nice, and there is a small weekly market on wednesdays, where a man sells the best cool smoked salmon in the world. if you have kids make sure you go to the local pool complex - it's great for adults because you can just lay on the large expanse of sloping grass and relax and read. it's a lovely place. you must also hire bikes and cycle along the river - it was a real highlight for us. choose a sunny day and it's paradise. I would certainly recommend staying here rather than in heidelberg.
We loved staying in Inga and Dominic's place! It is simply stunningly beautiful and fairy tale feeling, it is well equipped for all your needs, decorated with artistic style, comfortable and right in the center of the quaint little town of Nckargemünd (just a short 10 minute train ride from Heidelberg). The hosts were attentive, helpful and friendly, even walking us to the train staition on our last day! Couldn't give a higher reccomendation, stay here!
*There are two flights of steep stairs so it is not handicap friendly.
Fairy Tale Vacation Stay
The best holiday apartment ever! This place has it ALL, comfort, style, charm and location! As quaint as the home is from the outside, it is even more stunning inside. Dominc and Inga have made everything beautiful, new, stylish and comfortable! Inga and Dominc were fantastic hosts, making us feel quite comfortable and introduced us to the highlights of the small village and the apartment right away.
Our daughter loved her room under the eaves (quite comfortable for two). We enjoyed our separate room with window to the stars and comfortable bed. The kitchen and family room had everything you could need. The bathroom was well appointed, clean and spacious.
The location was perfect…you can’t get more central! We walked to the ferry, train, grocery, pub and even found bike rental around the corner. We rented bikes and rode up the Neckar River on the castle path, enjoyed dinners both in and out.
We had to pass on the canoe rides and ferry trips, but they also looked fun. Too many things to do and see, castles on every hill and wonderful nature and river views everywhere. We walked to the train 10 min, and rode to Heidelberg 10 min. So very close and lots in other directions as well.
Enjoyed a fantastic Spanish meal at Davinos for my birthday and had great pub food while listening to a really good rock band outside on Friday night…perfect!
This gem was my husbands find. He gets 5 stars! He was on work travel to SAP in Walldorf and found this amazing fairy tale cottage for us. We were all ready to stay for longer, five days was not enough.
Neckargemünd, also known as Heidelberg’s beautiful neighbour, is situated only 10 km from Heidelberg on the romantic Castle Road in the middle of the holiday region Natural Park Neckartal-Odenwald.
The town is nestled between mountains covered with deciduous and coniferous forests and the Terrassen-Schwimmbad is one of the region’s prettiest outdoor pools.
Neckargemünd’s old town has a history of more than 1000 years. Medieval narrow streets, corners and half-timbered houses are enjoyable for strolls.
Bergfeste Dilsberg is especially well known, a castle on a mountain above the Neckar valley which can be seen from a far distance.
There is a varied offer of activities available: from a number of excursion possibilities for bikers and hikers to boat and ship trips on the Neckar river.
From Neckargemünd, you can discover the Natural Park Neckartal-Odenwald, the Kraichgau hilly region, the Electoral Palatinate and the Castle Road.
