Massa Marittima is a particularly attractive, shaped by medieval and Gothic town. Due to the central location of Massa Marittima Florence, Siena, Volterra, San Gimignano are easy to errechen.
The 1000 year old, unforgettable town of Massa Marittima has retained its charm. Enjoy romantic evenings with wine and food in the Centro Storico.
Massa Marittima has the necessary infrastructure for daily shopping, bakeries, grocery stores, butcher shops, small grocery stores and much more. There are also many café-bars and several restaurants serving regional cuisine. It is located in the center of the 'Strada del Vino', a DOC wine region. There are about 15 km to the sea. A paradise for all seasons and since the last century one of the top names in all of Europe: the ancestral homeland of the Etruscans is versatile and welcoming at the same time. A mild winter, the blossoming spring, a warm autumn and the rich summer are the climatic coordinates for your well-being.
Massa Marittima has one of the most fascinating cities in images of medieval Tuscany and is not, as the name suggests, by the sea, but inland on a 'metalliferous hills' (380 m) of the Metalliferous Hills. Already the Etruscans and Romans began with the exploitation of the rich copper and silver mines. In the 13th century. experienced the free city-state as the center of the Tuscan ore mining their economic and cultural heyday. Highly recommended is a visit to the mining museum. The heart of the stunning Old Town is the asymmetric scale, gently sloping Piazza Garibaldi. It is one of the most beautiful 'squares' of Tuscany and is still the center of urban life. Around the Cathedral of San Cerbone grouped a charming medieval building ensemble with Bishop's Palace, Palazzo Comunale and Palazzo del Podestà. In July / August: craft and minerals markets, open-air concerts. Twice a year (May and August) takes place the 'Balestro del Girifalco', a festival with a solemn procession in historical costumes, with flag wavers and a crossbow competition. The beaches at Follonica 20 km
From the Maremma coastline, inland, the Alta Maremma, a very vast hilly landscape rises to heights between 200 and 800 m. It extends from the Metalliferous Hills (metalliferous hills) in the north to Etruria, in northern Lazio. Wide grain fields, olive groves, vineyards, extensive bush, the 'macchie' and oak forests dominate the landscape, which gains its special charm straight from their rural seclusion. In Local villages and towns (z. B. Massa Marittima, Roccatederighi, Manciano, Pitigliano), always built fortified on a hill or on a steeply sloping rock face, seems to pause the time, so pure and intact shows the respective medieval townscape.
