Overview

Issigeac Barn Rental Photos and Description

Le Maladary- 5 Kms from a medieval town. Sleeps 6 + baby. Wonderful for children

This is one of 4 ancient properties in a little hamlet. It is peaceful and rural but close to the medieval village of Issigeac with its wonderful and popular Sunday market. The barn has been immaculately converted (in 2005) by the French owners who live in the Perigourdine house next door. The spacious open plan living area has mellow exposed stone walls and tiled floors. There is comfortable seating, a dining table and a well equipped kitchen. The master bedroom is downstairs with a separate shower room and a separate toilet. A cot is stored in the laundry room.

Upstairs, the second double bedroom and the twin room have exposed beams and share a shower room with toilet. The property is very well kept and fresh and there is air conditioning for the hot summer months.

There is a large games room near the pool terrace and this contains a large selection of games including table tennis: there is a garden, extensive lawns, 2 fishing lakes, a boules pitch, a net for badminton and swings. One lake has a little beach, a jetty and a pedalo. There are lovely views over the arable fields and woods and you can often see deer, hares and birds of prey.

NEW FOR 2012 The lake has been stocked with fish and together with another neighbouring lake, can be used for fishing.

You will find much of interest in the immediate area and further afield. There are walks, tennis, horse riding, bikes to borrow from the owners, and golf. On the Dordogne river, you will find boat excursions, canoeing and fishing. There are loads of local villages and towns and many places host day markets, night markets for alfresco eating, festivals, music, brocantes and other summer activities. The tourist office in Issigeac has plenty of information about what you can find.

However it is well worth going on day trips to St. Emilion, Monpazier, Bergerac, Sarlat and the wonderful towns along the Dordogne. There are numerous caves, either with wonderful rock formations or prehistoric paintings.

Locally, we have two very good restaurants, little cafes and salon du thes, and the pizzeria in the village is very popular.

There are two minimarkets, two butchers, a bio shop, three boulangeries, a cash point, two pharmacies, a dentist and three doctors in the immediate area.

Contact details: The charming French owners of this property are available for help and advice and they are most welcoming and will be able to give you their first hand knowledge of the area that is their family home . However, they do not speak English. If you want to book directly, in French, please phone Huguette Delfieux on 0033553587271.

The French guest book: There are numerous comments in French in the guest book in addition to the English reviews on this site.

Just Beautiful

  • 5 of 5
The discreet friendly owners, Huguette and Jean Claude, along with their lovely English speaking neighbours, Felicity and John were on site to welcome us to this beautiful, lovely and clean well equipped gite. It was everything we wanted and without a doubt the best place we have stayed in France and there has been quite a few! It was exactly what it said in your brochure and more. The pool was perfect and the games room contained everything imaginable for everyone, including youngsters and teenagers. The large grassed area with swings and boules gives a feeling of space and there was even a pedalo on the lake! Perfect.

Perfect get away

  • 5 of 5
This gite was the perfect get away, relaxing, beautiful and very well equipped. The gite, pool, lakes and grounds are kept to a very high standard by Huguette and Jean Claude and any problems Felicity and John were there to help.
Unfortunately the week we were there the weather was really not at its best so a lot of card games and table tennis tournaments were played in the games room (which was fantastic, with so many game to choose from), The weather did not stop our 3 boys from going in the pool everyday or us having a good time!!
Issigeac market on Sunday morning is a must and Bergerac is not to far to drive!
All in all this holiday was all that we wanted and more (apart from the weather), we will hopefully be returning next year and recommending it to friends and family!!

Just as good the second time.

  • 5 of 5
We were so impressed last year (2009) that we booked again for this year. After nearly 30 years of regularly holidaying in France it has been very unusual for us to return to the same property. We were not disappointed and had a fabulous two weeks. We found the accomodation clean, comfortable and well equipped. The outside facilities (pool, lake, land, games room and eating area) are brilliant and a significant attraction that enhanced our holiday. Huguette and Jean Claude are friendly, helpful and discrete. For those of us who lack fluency in French the help provided by Felicity is greatly appreciated.

A nice place to stay

  • 5 of 5
The barn exceeded all expectations and is in a very lovely setting. The pool is lovely, while facilities were very good with lots of games for adults and children...The new boule pitch is going to get a lot of use!
Felicity is very helpful and its fun trying to converse with the owners Huguette and Jean Claude, who are very nice, but leave you alone. Issigeac is the local town which is very pretty. Many of the local towns in the area are very nice "bastide" towns.

Our Wonderful Holiday

  • 5 of 5
I hesitate to recommend this gite for two reasons, the first because different people have different needs and expectations and the second frankly because I personally don’t want people to find out about this excellent place. For that is how we found it. We spent two marvelous weeks doing nothing, except running between the lake and the swimming pool, maybe kicking a ball or two on the way! The ample garden flanked on two sides by sun flower fields, on the third by the two other houses in the hamlet and finally a look to the fourth side reveals farm land, you are right next door to a working farm. It is true that the lady of the gite is particular about how the property is presented but she could not have done more to make us feel welcome. We wanted a location that was in the middle of nowhere with a pool and that would be suitable for three small, extremely lively children and thats exactly what we got. If you were of a mind to visit the area, there is much to offer, we weren’t and were content with the Sunday market in the nearby medieval village of Issigeac and the local Monbazilliac Cave. As I said in the opening different people want different things from their holiday, should you be needing a restful, quite and wonderful location which is great for the children then sadly but out of respect for our lovely hosts, I have to recommend La Maladrai

A quiet holiday ideal for the family.

  • 5 of 5
The holiday was in great setting in and an ideal location for a restful time. This propery exceeded our expectations. When we arrived we were made welcome by the owner she showed us round and settled us in. Her and her husband were helpful and answered all our questions with the help of an english speaking neighbour. The barn accomodation was clean and well resourced for the holiday. The grounds were extensive and were well maintained. There is a new swimming pool near to the property and a lake with a dinghy style boat for the children to play in. On the large grounds there was a swing set up and an inside games area which was ideal for the children when they had tired of the pool. The children made the most of all the facilities and really enjoyed themselves. You need a car to get to the property but it is quite central to get to shops. It has an easy route to Bergerac and is quite central for other areas. We went out and the surrounding countryside, rivers and different markets were fabulous. Hugette (owner) and Felicity (neighbour) were welcoming and helpful. We had a lovely holiday and it gave us time as a family to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet of the french countryside. As we had such a great time last year I am bringing my mum and dad back this year as I think it is ideal for all age groups. A truely relaxing experience.

We are situated in rolling farmland, 5km from the medieval village of Issigeac with restaurants, all facilities and a bustling Sunday market. We are ideally placed for visiting the beautiful towns of Bergerac, Sarlat, Lalinde, La Roque Gageac and Beynac (along the Dordogne river), the prehistoric caves at Eyzies, and the historic bastide towns to the south and east. The region is known as Purple Perigord because of the vineyards and the famous Monbazillac chateau is close by. The wine centre of St. Emilion is a wonderful town to visit and is the gateway to all the wine country to the west. Bordeaux and the seaside at Arcachon can be visited on a day trip.

The area is renowned for good local produce which includes foie gras, duck confit, asparagus and cepes. The fruit and vegetable markets are a treat. An added bonus of our location is that the airport of Bergerac (RyanAir / Flybe / Jet2 is only 15min away on country roads so your holiday starts as soon as you leave the airport.

Other Activities: canoeing, hangliding.
