We've been to Southwestern France many times, and rented a variety of homes -- so it was such a wonderful experience to be bowled over by this house and environs... It served as a reminder that in this part of France, just moving to new area within 30 kilometers of where you've stayed in the past, reveals so many new experiences and vistas.
Let me begin by extolling the hosts. Kate, David and their daughters couldn't be more accommodating, caring and attentive. Their guests' privacy and comfort is foremost... they seemed to have thought of everything, and were always interested to learn if there was anything else they could do to improve the holiday.
The house is beautifully restored, and tastefully appointed. Interior decor follows an elegant theme of white, cream and burgundy which beautifully compliments the open stone work of the building. Spectacular woodwork has been carefully restored to retain the charm of the original building details.
The kitchen is well stocked with equipment to make meal preparation effortless, and should you lack something, the owners are happy to share from their own private supplies.
The bedroom is a gorgeous ensuite with breathtaking views over the pool to the undulating hills and sweeping countryside. Although not in their glory during our stay, the vista includes a field of sunflowers.
The children's bedroom is found at the top of a charming curving staircase, along with the coziest reading nook, jammed with a fine selection of children's books in both English and French. There's also a tv with built-in tape player, as well as a varied mix of video movies (handy with kids in case of bad weather).
The grounds are fantastic -- our boys have rated this the best gite we've ever rented. Besides the fabulous pool with its gorgeous view, there is table football, ping pong, trampoline and tennis. And to keep you company, there is a fantastic menagerie of pets that added to the holiday magic.
There are several outside eating areas, including an adorable breakfast nook under a bamboo rod canopy, complete with hanging strawberries. Just pick and throw into your yogurt while you have your coffee. Poolside you'll find several parasols & comfortable teak loungers that make it very difficult to leave and explore the surrounding villages.
And as for things to do in the area, one will run out of days before seeing it all... which is fine, because it gives one reason to return! We absolutely loved it!
