It offers an idyllic, beautiful and newly renovated former coach house, in one of the old city of Freiburg gardens, adjacent to a park, all just a few steps from the Old Town (Schwabentor, Münster). The house can accommodate 2 people. The ground floor has a large, equipped kitchen and bathroom. Upstairs is a large lovely decorated living room / bedroom with exposed beams and views of the countryside.
With just a few steps you can take all the sights of Freiburg (Münster, old department store, Schwabentor, Martinstor and especially the picturesque old town with its special flair and the many 'Bächles') explore.
Excursions to the Black Forest or the Kaiserstuhl are easy to handle right outside the door with Straba and train.
As at the foot of Castle Hill, you can go from here small and big hikes in the Black Forest.
A lovely little coach house in the backyard of a 3 family house along the Dreisam River near the Schwabentor historic gate to Freiburg's Altstadt. Lots of great places to walk, shop and eat... the house is really central to everything. A great brewery and beer garden 2 blocks away. The street car stop is a block away as well, for access to the Hauptbahnhof and all the outlying areas. The house is in the perfect spot for daily forays into town and walking up to the Burg or along the river.
The coach house is a two story cottage with a steep stair and the top floor is one large bedroom room with windows on two sides that overlook the lovely garden. Downstairs is a surprisingly large kitchen and the bathroom. The building is restored and well-heated and everything was very clean and tidy, with all the things we needed to cook some meals and have breakfast each day with Brötchen we fetched from the bakery a block away.
It's very romantic, quiet and cozy, with a lot of space for two. the garden was just coming into springtime bloom and if the weather would have been better I'm sure we would have spent more time in the garden (but you know those summer rains in Germany). Peter greeted us at the door, he lives in the front house and was very helpful with suggestions and tips for seeing Freiburg, and he speaks good English.
There was no washing machine (as stated) but there was one of Germany's rare self-service laundromats a block away so we did our laundry there and it took less time because we used 2 machines, no problem. I arranged parking with Peter which was two blocks away in a public garage. There was WiFi, it was OK for emails, but the internet was slow and worked best sitting at the windows in the kitchen, so don't plan on streaming media. There was a nice flat panel TV upstairs with CNN in English.
We will return again in the future, it was a wonderful little five day experience and I would recommend it to any couple visiting Freiburg.
My husband and I have just returned from a lovely holiday in the Coach house in Freiburg. From the street you would not realise this oasis lay behind the front door. The garden area is beautiful and was lovely to return to after a day out. The Coach house was just perfect for us and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We cooked in a few nights and the cupboards are well stocked with everything you could need. The property was clean and we found it very comfortable. Peter and his wife were very friendly and we enjoyed our chats with Peter in the garden.
Although the weather was not always sunny, there is plenty to do and see in this area, far more than we had imagined. We enjoyed our walk into the Black Forest and to the viewing tower where you could see all over Freiburg. Although it rained this day it did not stop us. We had a lovely sunny day when we visited Lake Titisee and hired a motor boat on the lake. The cable car is a good day out too with another tower to climb with fantastic views. The Kiedel mineral spa is a must and it was brilliant value at 13 euros.
Freiburg itself is a lovely city and is just on the doorstep to explore. We found some good beer in the micro breweries.Had a lovely meal in a tiny guesthouse on the way back from Lake Titisee and found one of the pop up restaurants where we sampled flammkuchen. There are many vineyards around where you can have tastings and we did purchase a few bottles to bring home!
All in all a good holiday which was enhanced by our stay in the Coach house, would definitely recommend.

What a great little oasis in central Frieburg, right on the river and 5 minute walk to the Munster (Cathdral) and the Market with the best 2.20 Euros Brats and bun I have ever had! . My husband and I just got back from visiting Freiburg for 6 nights and meeting up with our son who was studying there. This garden cottage was the most ideal location and looks just like the photographs! We were thrilled. It was cold, overcast and rainy some of the time we were there and it was so nice to sit in our cozy little warm cottage with a kitchen sipping our coffee and tea, enjoying the wonderful baked goods we bought at the bakery and gazing out at Peter's extraordinarily lush little garden. Peter and his wife (the green thumb) were gracious hosts, always there to give us tips or suggestions if we needed them.
The internet was a bit spotty - but then we were not there to spend time on the internet - we do that enough when we are not on vacation!
We highly recommend this cottage for a couple who enjoy walking/strolling this beautiful city, hiking the Schlossberg - an entrance to the Black forest, sipping great local beer in a cafe by the canal and soaking in the beautiful flowers and delectible aromas of roasting bratwurst in the daily Market. Nab a 24 transportation pass (9.90 Euro pass covers up to 5 eople on one ticket, available at the Visitor Center or the machines on any local city tram)
Tips and Recommendations - take a tram or bus from Freiburg proper:
1. Jesuitenschloss - (Schlossweg, 79249 Merzhausen) a hilltop outdoor beautiful, reasonable restaurant (great beer) tucked away with gorgeous views of Freiburg. You will have to google how to get there. Our son escorted us by foot, we hiked there, but there is a road that goes there.
2. Keidel- Mineral baths - wonderful full day experience. There are 8-9 indoor and outdoor pools all varying from cool to warm to hot temperatures. The best part besides the total relaxing experience of being pampered on Mother's Day, was the local flavor and family environment.
I chose this rental in part because of the location, and in part because of the charming photos. When I arrived I was surprised to discover that it exceeded my expectations on every count. This beautiful renovated coach house was spacious, bright, and impeccably clean. I lacked for nothing during my visit. But what made the experience extraordinary was the personal attention that my hosts provided. Thank you for helping me to enjoy Freiburg to its fullest, and for helping me visit Strasbourg. I hope to see you again soon!
Lovely cottage with a beautiful garden. It's such a pleasant change to find somewhere like this in the middle of a city.
Peter was very helpful in recommending places to visit and he speaks several languages which he loves to practice whenever possible.
We were lucky enough to visit when there was a festival on which was great - plenty of beer and music all weekend. Having said that, the same thing happened when we visited Munich and Nuremberg so I think possibly they have them everywhere every weekend.
Freiburg is well worth a visit and Peter's cottage is the ideal base - well it was for us - we will be back again soon.
A clean and pleasant and well equipped property and garden exactly as detailed in the description and photographs. Good connection (55 mins) by airport bus with Basel airport.
Excellent location to visit old Freiburg (5 mins walk) and the surrounding area - train station only 20 minutes walk away if you do not have a car. River and mountain walks nearby as well as the Munster and museums. If you prefer not to self cater there is a very good selection of restaurants within 5 minutes walk of the house.
Extremely helpful owners who advised on activities and areas to visit.
An ideal place for 2 people to spend time in the centre of this beautiful city.
