Idyllic holiday home with double and single bed, 10 minute walk to the beach

Idyllic holiday home with double and single bed, 10 minute walk to the beach

This charming little house is open plan with organically shaped stone walls and floors, and has a slightly raised sleeping area. The quaint bathroom has a bathtub, while outside at the back there is a private terrace with an open air shower. The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering, and there is a table for al fresco dining under the shade of the huge old oak tree. Hammocks swing from the branches, offering the perfect place to relax and enjoy the beautiful sea views out towards the island of Kythira.

For those who want to enjoy a creative holiday, there is the opportunity to attend a ceramics seminar in the garden workshop, and leave for home with your own home-made souvenir!

The beach in Skoutari is ideal for young children as it is sandy and the water is very shallow. For more adventurous swimmers there is also excellent snorkelling around the rocks and hidden coves with beautiful pebbles of various colours.

There are various churches to visit around Skoutari, one of which is the abandoned monastery of 'Ag. Sotiras', the Church of the Redeemer, which is reached by following a herb-scented path through ancient olive groves. If you prefer more than just the solitary beauty of this place, then on 6 August, this church opens its doors to celebrate its saint’s day.

On a culinary note, you can enjoy delicious lamb chops while gazing out over the breathtaking view from Nicoletta’s tavern on nearby hilltop Drosopigi, . A few miles in the opposite direction in Ageranos, Vasilis and Marie-José offer unusual dutch/greek cuisine. Hearty greek home cooking can be enjoyed at Maria’s in Vathi. You can try excellent and affordable fish at Gialos on Mavrovouni beach, and even in Skoutari there are two simple fish tavernas, whose unmissable special is 'Garides Saganaki' (king prawns in tomato and feta cheese).

Skoutari is a charming fishing village in the legendary Mani / South Peloponnese. The golden sandy beach is only 10 minutes walk from the cottage and there are views north to the majestic Taygetos mountain range. The drinking water comes from a nearby spring. There is basic shopping in the village, and bread is delivered free. For more extensive shopping you can drive 15kms in either direction to Gythio or Areopolis.

From here you can make excursions to the largest sea caves in Europe, just near Pirgos Dirou; Gythion's offshore island 'Kranai', famous for its legend of Paris and Helen; or further afield the rocky outpost 'Monemvasia', with its winding streets and its acropolis. Or for the more active, there is some of the best windsurfing in Greece off the beach of Mavrouvouni.

About Angelika Fritzsche

Hello my dear guests! Now let me tell you something about myself... please check my website keramikon.weebly.com!

All my life stands under the star of inspiration and creating ceramic items.

Angelika Fritzsche purchased this cottage in 1993

Why Angelika Fritzsche chose Gythion

Wellanidia the little stonecottage under the old oaktree...with a lot of love for details it was built in a handicraft way and changed over the years like the tree itself....feel amazed and trapped by these walls which were raised even out of old church stones. Skoutari I found when I came here first time for holidaysto the Peloponnese 1987. I travelled all around the peninsula but here in Skoutari in the end I was sitting with lovely 23 years old on the light sand beach watching the turquoise water with tears in my eyes because I had to leave again for germany.....

What makes this cottage unique

Your holidays in the middle of nature gives you a longlasting feeling of relaxation which you take home with you.

Vielen Dank, liebe Angelika!

Angelika
