Fairly accurate description, some concerns.

While the description provided on this site was fairly accurate and the price was right, we had some concerns. First the positive aspects: well- stocked kitchen and lots of linens (though we had to fold the laundry that was left in the dryer prior to our arrival). Lots of beach items (snorkels, boogie boards, chairs, coolers, etc.) were available for our use. The rooms are open, airy, and bright. Appliances were in good working order.
Our concerns were the noise in the master bedroom from the neighbours, some areas were not so clean (some dishes were dirty as were the inside of drawers), and there was poor lighting up the stairs when returning at night. The unit could really be enhanced with more comfortable seating on the lanai (currently 2 semi-circle high tables neither of which comfortably seat 4) and a more suitable dining room table instead of the woven bamboo table currently available which was hard to clean.
We all 4 loved our stay in Kailua and would like to return to the area. The beach truly is magnificent!

Owner's Response: Mahalo for your review. We appreciate all feedback as we believe we can make our rental better only if our guests let us know what they think about the cottage.
First, we apologize that towels were left in the dryer, that only happens when we have a same day check-out/check-in, so the cleaners basically run out of time to do all the laundry by the 4pm check in time. We appreciate your help in folding the last load of towels.
The noise the next door neighbors make has been a recent concern for us, as there has been rotating renters every 6 months. Admittedly this last set has been noisy late at night, and we shall be more vigilant in calling the police to get them to follow the noise laws.
The motion lights broke down recently after a good 8 years of use and have been replaced with new solar powered motion lights to better light the stairs to the cottage.
As for the lanai furniture, most of our guests enjoy the higher seating to see the view over the lanai rails, so at this point we will keep the lanai furniture as is. We are hesitant in putting out even outdoor furniture on the lanai as it is quite wet in Kailua, and mold tends to build easily on everything. We apologize if you feel that the furniture wasn't so comfortable.
The dining room table had a glass overlay once, but a former renter broke it using a baby seat on it, and it costs $800 to replace. Unfortunately, we felt bad about charging the new family, so we left the table as is without the glass overlay. We now charge new renters the Damage Protection insurance for such occurances. However, we plan to epoxy over the bamboo to make it a smooth surface and easy to wipe the next time the cottage has no renters.
We hope the changes that we make will enhance the stay of future renters. Again, we appreciate the feedback.
