Cottages: Ken and Liz Mason the resident owners of three 350 year old stone cottages with beamed ceilings and terra cotta floors, set in an acre of award winning gardens nestling on the edge of a lovely hamlet surrounded by open fields in the heart of the Loire Valley. To maintain the tranquillity of the setting and to ensure total relaxation during your holiday with us we only accept adults.

Each cottage has its own private area of garden, the gardens include lawns, an orchard with plum, pear, apple, cherry and walnut trees and we also have a herb garden. We have tried to broaden the range of plants in the garden so that no matter what time of the year you chose to visit there will be plenty to look at. If you enjoy home cooking, our herb garden provides you with parsley, basil, coriander, chive, dill, lemon balm, mint.

Food and Wine: For those that are interested in food we have numerous Restaurants in the area ranging from those were a good 3 course lunch with wine can be had for about €12 to Michelin Starred Restaurants which are obviously more expensive but certainly better value than would be expected in the UK.

We also have locally Le Calabash ‘Petit Conservatoire de la Cuisine’ which is located on the river Creuse in the heart of the Indre et Loire region, set in a small French hamlet on the edge of the local forest. The region is home to the finest goat’s cheese producers and winemaking has been deeply rooted here for centuries. This area is simply known as France’s ‘Bread Basket’

At Le Calabash you will embark on a culinary adventure that will open new doors to flavours, techniques and skills that will enable you to follow your own flair and imagination.

Nature: Wild Life abounds in the area with its many Rivers and Forests, nearby is the regional park La Brenne, an area of some 166,000 hectors with over 2000 man made lakes of various sizes.

An amazing diversity of natural habitats is responsible for an abundance of wildlife of which the best know are the: Purple Heron, Black necked Grebe, wetland warblers, Bittern, March Harrier, Whiskered Tern, Short-toed eagle together with water birds to numerous to mention. In the surrounding forests you can find many species of Deer and Wild Boar.

In our own gardens we have done everything we can to encourage wild life and we have numerous species of birds such as, Red Leged Partridge, Black Redstart, Fieldfare, Cirl Buntings, Great, Blue Tits, Sparrows, Swallows, House Martin, Kestral, Fly Catchers and numerous types of owls to mention just a few. We also have a number of Red Squirrels that visit the garden on a regular basis.

Idyllic peace and quiet

  • 5 of 5
Unspoilt and tranquil cottage style holiday with as much seclusion as you could wish for. Quiet roads, quiet towns, quiet restaurants with excellent quality food at good prices - a real getaway from the rat race. You could feel the stress ebbing away. Ken and Liz are excellent hosts who have mastered the fine art of being available and helpful without intrusion.

Absolutely fantastic holiday accommodation!

  • 5 of 5
We have just come back from staying in the most beautiful place. What a find, a perfect little gem a little piece of heaven! If you are thinking of staying in France, look no further stay with Ken and Liz. We have just holidayed there and it was just perfect. The owners are really a lovely and genuine couple. They made our stay so special. Ken has so much knowledge of the surrounded area, and he recommended some great places for us to visit. He also has a huge personality! Nothing was too much trouble for either one of them. The accommodation was just absolutely perfect, very, very comfortable and very clean. Location is excellent. We would certainly go back.

Le Fleuve in Spring

  • 5 of 5
An absolutely lovely stay here at Les Fripieres. We stayed in Le Fleuve, a really lovely little cottage and with no TV and no distraction we could really relax and soak up the sun by the pool. Lovely flowers in and around the area and in the garden and being 2 food lovers the restaurants and markets all locally nearby were amazing.

Something for all to do from young to old and for a peaceful and relaxing get away you would be hard pushed to fault it.

Ken and Liz were lovely and really helpful in suggestions of what to do and any specific activity booking, YOU MUST GO!

Ed and Lisa Cooper in their early thirties.

Wonderful holiday

  • 5 of 5
We've stayed at Les Frippieres before and, once again, had a wonderful holiday -peaceful, relaxing and so much to see and do in the area, magical chateaux, fantastic restaurants, picture-postcard villages. Ken and Liz are very friendly, helpful and unobtrusive; the cottages are clean, well-equipped and very comfortable, the gardens and pool are very attractive - so if it's a tranquil, get-away-from-it-all, gastronomic sort of holiday in a beautiful part of the world, then this is for you! We would recommend it to anyone.

Our relaxing stay at Le Fleuve

  • 5 of 5
We stayed here for a week in August 2012 and were lucky enough to have beautiful weather. The property is clean and well maintained with an inviting swimming pool. The owners Ken and Liz were very helpful providing information on places to visit in the local area and organising bookings for local restaurants as required. We stayed there for a week and found plenty to do each day including going to local markets, visiting local villages and restaurants, providing us with an insight into French life
Would definitely recommend this property to family and friends

Recreational opportunities abound in the region. Biking on the almost traffic-free country roads alongside the wide rivers, privately-owned châteaux and red-roofed villages, certainly qualifies as one of the most delightful activities. The many rivers which honeycomb the area, from the Creuse to the Gartempe to the Anglin, will be of special interest to swimmers and those who enjoy fishing. Bird watching is especially well-rewarded in the Regional Park of the Brenne, a wildlife refuge. For those who would like to be a little more energetic why not borrow our bikes and try one of the easy local bike rides and of course there are plenty of local walks, we also have local stables and tennis courts. We are lucky enough to be surrounded by Golf Courses which are underplayed for most of year, our nearest is just 15 mins away.

Other Activities: Bird Watching, Chateaux

Golf: We are lucky enough to be surrounded by quality golf courses that are not only quiet but affordable. Our nearest club is the 18 hole Golf du Connetable at La Roche Posay, just 15 minutes away and is a challenge for all standard of golfers. This ‘Woburnesk’ course is set amongst conifers with oaked lined fairways, wildlife is plentiful Red Squirrel’s abound and don’t be surprised to see the odd Stag or Boar running off into the forest. Golf de La Roche Possay

At Loches we have the 9 hole Golf Loches Verneuil which has been built in association with St. Andrews. Golf Loches Verneuil

Just outside Chatellerault is the Golf du Haut Poitou, here we have both a 9 and 18 hole course set around a large lake, again the 18 hole course is a challenge to all. Golf du Haut Poitou

A bit further out is the Golf du Manoir de Beauvoir, this beautiful course is set in the grounds of an old 19th centaury Victorian style manor which is now an hotel. Golf du Manoir de Beauvoir
