Ken and Liz Mason the resident owners of three 350 year old luxury self catering romantic stone cottages with beamed ceilings and Terracotta floors, set in an acre of award winning gardens with its own private swimming pool nestling on the edge of a lovely French hamlet surrounded by open fields in the heart of the Loire Valley. To maintain the tranquillity of the setting and to ensure total relaxation during your holiday with us we only accept adults.

Each cottage has its own private area of garden, we have tried to broaden the range of plants in the garden so that no matter what time of the year you chose to visit there will be plenty to look at.

There are too many flowers and shrubs to mention but we do have many types of clematis, honeysuckle, rose, grape vines, jasmine, sweet pea, laveteria and lavender. If you enjoy home cooking, our herb garden provides you with a multitude of herbs. More information at web site

Cottages: Ken and Liz Mason the resident owners of three 350 year old stone cottages with beamed ceilings and terra cotta floors, set in an acre of award winning gardens nestling on the edge of a lovely hamlet surrounded by open fields in the heart of the Loire Valley. We also have locally Le Calabash ‘Petit Conservatoire de la Cuisine’ which is located on the river Creuse in the heart of the Indre et Loire region, set in a small French hamlet on the edge of the local forest. The region is home to the finest goat’s cheese producers and winemaking has been deeply rooted here for centuries. This area is simply known as France’s ‘Bread Basket’

At Le Calabash you will embark on a culinary adventure that will open new doors to flavours, techniques and skills that will enable you to follow your own flair and imagination.

Nature: Wild Life abounds in the area with its many Rivers and Forests, nearby is the regional park La Brenne, an area of some 166,000 hectors with over 2000 man made lakes of various sizes.

An amazing diversity of natural habitats is responsible for an abundance of wildlife of which the best know are the: Purple Heron, Black necked Grebe, wetland warblers, Bittern, March Harrier, Whiskered Tern, Short-toed eagle together with water birds to numerous to mention. In the surrounding forests you can find many species of Deer and Wild Boar.

Peaceful, tranquil and revitalising!

  • 5 of 5
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in La Lune it is hard to translate the quietness, beauty and restorative powers of les fripperies and the Loire. The information in the cottages was incredibly useful for planning our time. The markets are a must each one a little different we also loved Tours and Poitier for both the architecture, food shopping and experiences they offered also. The start of our holiday started so well with Sunday lunch at The Promenade we would say a must to all who visit. The cottage has all you could want for home away from home and we felt really relaxed and comfortable. We intend to spread the word to family and friends. We have no hesitation in recommending les fripperies to stay. Liz and Ken were most helpful and friendly as others have said they perfected being unobtrusive. Their residence and gardens are a credit to them for the huge work it takes to maintain the standards they have set.

A RESOUNDING YESSSSS! FROM US

  • 5 of 5
Le Fleuve (2 bed) was enchanting. We chose Les Frippieres to just get away and be quiet from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The pool was great source of fun and cooling down. Thoroughly recommend it. It does what it says on the can. You won't be disappointed.

another relaxing stay

  • 5 of 5
This was our second visit to La Lune, and it again, did not disappoint.
Our hosts were as welcoming as ever, the cottage beautiful and the surroundings stunning. The weather was for the most very good, which meant we had a mix of visiting the local sights and relaxing in the picturesque and private gardens of the cottage. We had the advantage of being able to visit both the chateau at Amboise and Villandry to experience the night time spectacular's both of which will remain special memories !! Thanks again to Ken and Liz, for sharing their beautiful property with us, we look to return again in the future.

Peaceful Retreat

  • 5 of 5
This is a delightful property, surrounded by beautiful countryside with friendly, discrete and helpful hosts. La Lune is well cared for, clean, tidy and appropriately furnished. The gardens are tranquil and the swimming pool a real treat. The information provided in the cottage by hosts, Ken & Liz, really helped us to explore the area and make the most of our holiday time. We will certainly recommend this cottage to family and friends, hoping to return in the near future.

It Really Is As Good As It Looks!

  • 5 of 5
Every photo of the property that we took could have been made into a picture postcard, though no photo could capture the exquisite scents from the gardens or the absolute tranquility of the area. (It took us a couple of days to get used to the complete absence of any traffic noise!)
La Lune and the other 2 properties at Les Frippieres are absolutely delightful, and are well configured to ensure that each property retains its privacy. In the July heat-wave, the pool was an absolute godsend.
The owners have provided furnishings and utensils of the highest quality, to the point where La Lune is genuinely a home from home.
Liz and Ken live in their own cottage and are brilliant and entertaining hosts - there when you need them but happy to keep a low profile for most of the time.
The area has numerous beautiful chateaux in the area reach, the local wines are a delight and, although Chaumussay itself is very quiet, there are plenty of shops and markets within easy reach.
It's no surpise to see how many guests decide to return.

What a gem!

  • 5 of 5
We could not have had a better or more relaxing time at La Lune. We especially enjoyed touring the surounding villages, towns, chateauxs, and abbey. The location is in the southern part of the Touraine Region, and we enjoyed driving to many charming locations up to 1.5 hours away such as Chenonceau, Amboise, Loches, and Angles.
The cottage, grounds and surrounding area afforded us the comforts, privacy and simple luxuries of a great travel experience and some wonderful memories. Ken, our host, was always available and helpful for information, reservations and any problem solving. (Sorry we missed seeing Liz in person, but she was away that week.)
Our only regret would be that our schedule limited us to a 4 night stay. Next time we would book a week or two so we can enjoy even more of what the property and region have to offer.

Recreational opportunities abound in the region. Biking on the almost traffic-free country roads alongside the wide rivers, privately-owned châteaux and red-roofed villages, certainly qualifies as one of the most delightful activities. The many rivers which honeycomb the area, from the Creuse to the Gartempe to the Anglin, will be of special interest to swimmers and those who enjoy fishing. Bird watching is especially well-rewarded in the Regional Park of the Brenne, a wildlife refuge. For those who would like to be a little more energetic why not borrow our bikes and try one of the easy local bike rides and of course there are plenty of local walks, we also have local stables and tennis courts. We are lucky enough to be surrounded by Golf Courses which are underplayed for most of year, our nearest is just 15 mins away.

Other Activities: Bird Watching, Chateaux

Golf: We are lucky enough to be surrounded by quality golf courses that are not only quiet but affordable. Our nearest club is the 18 hole Golf du Connetable at La Roche Posay, just 15 minutes away and is a challenge for all standard of golfers. This ‘Woburnesk’ course is set amongst conifers with oaked lined fairways, wildlife is plentiful Red Squirrel’s abound and don’t be surprised to see the odd Stag or Boar running off into the forest. Golf de La Roche Possay

At Loches we have the 9 hole Golf Loches Verneuil which has been built in association with St. Andrews. Golf Loches Verneuil

Just outside Chatellerault is the Golf du Haut Poitou, here we have both a 9 and 18 hole course set around a large lake, again the 18 hole course is a challenge to all. Golf du Haut Poitou

A bit further out is the Golf du Manoir de Beauvoir, this beautiful course is set in the grounds of an old 19th centaury Victorian style manor which is now an hotel. Golf du Manoir de Beauvoir
