The region is home to the finest goat’s cheese producers and winemaking has been deeply rooted here for centuries. This area is simply known as France’s ‘Bread Basket’

At Le Calabash you will embark on a culinary adventure that will open new doors to flavours, techniques and skills that will enable you to follow your own flair and imagination.

Nature: Wild Life abounds in the area with its many Rivers and Forests, nearby is the regional park La Brenne, an area of some 166,000 hectors with over 2000 man made lakes of various sizes.

An amazing diversity of natural habitats is responsible for an abundance of wildlife of which the best know are the: Purple Heron, Black necked Grebe, wetland warblers, Bittern, March Harrier, Whiskered Tern, Short-toed eagle together with water birds to numerous to mention. PEACEFUL RETREAT

  • 5 of 5
This is a delightful property, surrounded by beautiful countryside with friendly, discrete and helpful hosts. La Lune is well cared for, clean, tidy and appropriately furnished. The gardens are tranquil and the swimming pool a real treat. The information provided in the cottage by hosts, Ken & Liz, really helped us to explore the area and make the most of our holiday time. We will certainly recommend this cottage to family and friends, hoping to return in the near future.

IT REALLY IS AS GOOD AS IT LOOKS!

  • 5 of 5
Every photo of the property that we took could have been made into a picture postcard, though no photo could capture the exquisite scents from the gardens or the absolute tranquility of the area. (It took us a couple of days to get used to the complete absence of any traffic noise!)
La Lune and the other 2 properties at Les Frippieres are absolutely delightful, and are well configured to ensure that each property retains its privacy. In the July heat-wave, the pool was an absolute godsend.
The owners have provided furnishings and utensils of the highest quality, to the point where La Lune is genuinely a home from home.
Liz and Ken live in their own cottage and are brilliant and entertaining hosts - there when you need them but happy to keep a low profile for most of the time.
The area has numerous beautiful chateaux in the area reach, the local wines are a delight and, although Chaumussay itself is very quiet, there are plenty of shops and markets within easy reach.
It's no surpise to see how many guests decide to return.

WHAT A GEM!

  • 5 of 5
We could not have had a better or more relaxing time at La Lune. We especially enjoyed touring the surounding villages, towns, chateauxs, and abbey. The location is in the southern part of the Touraine Region, and we enjoyed driving to many charming locations up to 1.5 hours away such as Chenonceau, Amboise, Loches, and Angles.
The cottage, grounds and surrounding area afforded us the comforts, privacy and simple luxuries of a great travel experience and some wonderful memories. Ken, our host, was always available and helpful for information, reservations and any problem solving. (Sorry we missed seeing Liz in person, but she was away that week.)
Our only regret would be that our schedule limited us to a 4 night stay. Next time we would book a week or two so we can enjoy even more of what the property and region have to offer.

SO TRANQUIL AND RELAXING

  • 5 of 5
We were so looking forward to our stay at 'La Lune' and it did not disappoint. Both the property and the surroundings exceeded all our expectations. Our host greeted us on arrival and was very knowledgeable about the local area, recommending various activities, and trips to local markets,(not to be missed).
The property is located in beautiful gardens, with fantastic views, and most of the time, just birdsong to keep you company. The weather was fair, however we looked forward to cosy nights in front of the wood burner. No TV was a bonus as it made it a truly relaxing week away.We will be returning next year........Thank you

LOVELY LA LUNE

  • 5 of 5
We enjoy the Chaumussay area and have now made six visits, staying in La Lune each time. The cottage has everything we need, including comfort, solitude and lots of birdsong. Ken and Liz are perfect hosts, helpful, friendly and full of knowledge of the area's many attractions. We have a superb time every time we go and would recommend the destination to anyone looking for a restful, comfortable break.

A MAGIC LOCATION

  • 5 of 5
Le lune is the gorgeous cottage in which we spent two wonderful nights.
Upon arrival we were met by the owners Ken and Liz who were so warm and welcoming they made us feel right at home.
They had great suggestions on local food and dining which did not disappoint.
There is plenty to do and see in the surrounding area. One of the highlights of our trip was lunch at L'Orangerie in the gardens of the Chateau Chenonceau followed by a stroll around the gardens and chateau.
Once back at the cottage the cuckoo bird greeted us in our own private terrace garden whilst we enjoyed locally produced sausage, cheese and wines.
Our only regret was not staying longer.........

Recreational opportunities abound in the region. Biking on the almost traffic-free country roads alongside the wide rivers, privately-owned châteaux and red-roofed villages, certainly qualifies as one of the most delightful activities. The many rivers which honeycomb the area, from the Creuse to the Gartempe to the Anglin, will be of special interest to swimmers and those who enjoy fishing. Bird watching is especially well-rewarded in the Regional Park of the Brenne, a wildlife refuge. For those who would like to be a little more energetic why not borrow our bikes and try one of the easy local bike rides and of course there are plenty of local walks, we also have local stables and tennis courts. We are lucky enough to be surrounded by Golf Courses which are underplayed for most of year, our nearest is just 15 mins away.

Other Activities: Bird Watching, Chateaux

Golf: We are lucky enough to be surrounded by quality golf courses that are not only quiet but affordable. Our nearest club is the 18 hole Golf du Connetable at La Roche Posay, just 15 minutes away and is a challenge for all standard of golfers. This ‘Woburnesk’ course is set amongst conifers with oaked lined fairways, wildlife is plentiful Red Squirrel’s abound and don’t be surprised to see the odd Stag or Boar running off into the forest. Golf de La Roche Possay

At Loches we have the 9 hole Golf Loches Verneuil which has been built in association with St. Andrews. Golf Loches Verneuil

Just outside Chatellerault is the Golf du Haut Poitou, here we have both a 9 and 18 hole course set around a large lake, again the 18 hole course is a challenge to all. Golf du Haut Poitou

A bit further out is the Golf du Manoir de Beauvoir, this beautiful course is set in the grounds of an old 19th centaury Victorian style manor which is now an hotel. Golf du Manoir de Beauvoir
