Beautifully converted 150-year-old farmhouse with the aim of maintaining the rustic style, which is so typical for Gozo farmhouses, but combining this with modern comfort. It comprises a total area of 350 m2 with a sitting room, large dining/living room with dining table and sofa, partly open kitchen and toilet/washing room at the ground floor.

The kitchen has all amenities and the wash room contains a washing machine. Wide doors give easy access to a spacious garden with a 30-m2 pool, pool shower, barbecue, gazebo and garden furniture, overlooking the fields.

A classical stairs with skylight leads to the second floor with 3 spacious bedrooms and 2 luxury bathrooms, of which one is en-suite. Two bedrooms have double beds, one has two singles. Two of the bedrooms have balconies, offering nice views over the fields/part of town. All furniture is first class pine. The house is well furnishing with a combination of classical pine and rattan. Ceiling fans are installed as is a free Wireless network ( code protected)

We are licensed by the Maltese Tourist Authority (MTA).

Hi , I am Dutch by nationality and married since 1982 to a Maltese lady. My profession has made us live for the last 25 + years in 8 different countries around the world and we recently decided to settle down in Portugal .

Frans Spijker purchased this farmhouse in 2003

Considering our strong family ties with Malta we always wanted to purchase some property on the sister island of Gozo. Why Gozo ? because it is much quieter and more intimate than Malta, also greener throughout the year with lovely beaches close by.

We purchased this property at the time and had it converted because we loved the location being on the outskirts of Xaghra ,with green areas behind,the possibility to have a nice garden, quietness but nevertheless still with all amenities of Xaghra within walking distance (10-15 mins)

FAMILY FRIENDLY HOME

We spent 2 weeks at the villa Arzella summer '08 and found the villa to be perfect for our family group. We took 2 children (7 and 9) and found the outside space to be private and fully enclosed for their safety. The pool was excellent and essential in the extreme summer heat but we were glad we took our own pool toys! The house has all the basics you'll need for an enjoyable holiday and the outside eating areas were perfect. For those of you in a car be prepared to park on a pretty narrow road outside the property. We had a 72 year old in our group who found the property to her liking but suffered for the lack of air conditioning. (There are fans though in each room which were ESSENTIAL). The property is about a 10 minute walk from the village of Xaghra which has shops, banks (but no ATM) and nice restaurants. The Gozitan people are lovely and like the English which is a rare bonus in the present political climate! The children found the lack of decent Sky channels frustrating for what bit of TV viewing they did and the cooker was a bit of a challenge for those of us who are not microwave fans but overall we loved the property and would definitely go back in the future!

A GREAT PLAZE TO STAY ON GOZO

We had the pleasure of staying at Arzella Farmhouse a fortnight in June. There were enough space for five grownups and a kid, and it was a really nice place to stay. Of course it was sunny and hot, but we even got a few rainy and windy evenings. I am sure that was ordered specially for us. To feel like home :)
The location is almost perfect. Local and quiet, still with the market place and centre just a short walk away. And the food is really tasty. Everywhere. And wherever you go you will get a lot. The plates on any café or restaurant is large. For a reason. Doesn’t matter what you order, you will get a lot. But if the harmony in your lifestyle depends on good coffee? Bring it from home. :)
Nevertheless, we had an interesting start of our vacation. When we arrived, the neighbours next door showed off ambitions. Serious construction work was going on, and the ambitions was to replicate the Khufu pyramide. More or less. That means workers, stone, dust and noise. But the House Management went all in, and made our stay pleasant and calm. Our thanks goes to the handy man Carmel and Andrew, both were instantly “hands-on” no matter what the issue was. Even the notorious “tricky-to-use-gas-oven” was not that tricky at all, the moment Carmel showed me how to use it :)
Rental car is convenient when you realize that most people are driving on the left hand side, but buses goes all over this beautiful island, and there is also very service-minded local taxi drivers. Our favorite is Maria Lourdes Formosa. Then the rest is up to you. Enjoy the garden and nice pool at Arzella, or go for the lot of places to see. The nice beach Ramla Bay is close, and even there the pizza is amazing. Ancient and historical remains and sights are everywhere on Gozo, the churches and domes in Malta are stunningly awesome, and if you really want to dig into the amazing history there are local guides who knows it all.
The small shops have anything you need and our ladies went bananas every time the fish wagon came by in the morning. We made some meals at the house, everything we needed was right there, but the small and cozy restaurant “The Breeze” became our favorite in Xaghra. Traditional and really tasty food. Definitely good service, and the absolutely best kitchen in town.
Gozo and Arzella were nice, interesting, calm and amazing, in spite of that really disturbed rooster in the neighbourhood. That bird really needs help. But don’t be too surprised if we are coming back. :)

FANTASTIC HOLIDAY LOCATION

First of all: Frans is really a nice and reliable person. Due to urgent medical treatment we had to postpone our trip. In this situation Frans was very empathetic and accommodating.

We (2 adults, 2 children aged 9 and 12) arrived on sunday in the evening and to our surprise we found a bootle of delicious red wine (a very special Gozitan Merlot). The property management even managed to get us some provisions which was greatly appreciated, especially as we had two very hungry children in tow.

The house is incredible beautiful and exceeded all our expectations. In many cases in the past we have learned that things in reality don’t look that good/big than before on photos. Here it was the opposite! The rooms in the house are incredibly spacious with high ceilings. And even the pool in the garden was much bigger than expected.

The house was immaculately clean, is well kept and has all the modern needs (e.g. cable tv, dvd player, coffee machine, microwave, washing machine, …). The 20 MBit-highspeed internet (WIFI) was very useful in helping to plan excursions around Gozo, Camino and Malta.

In the morning we found it very easy to cater for ourselves with all the cooking implements in the kitchen and enjoyed breakfast on the terrace. The house is in walking distance (10 minutes) from the Xaghra village center where we regularly went out for dinner.

Ramla Bay the best and biggest sandy beach on Gozo is only a 10 minute drive away.

After returning from our excursion to Valetta, Malta’s capital city, we enjoyed the peacefulness and tranquility of the house.
On Good Friday after four days of intensive sightseeing we decided to stay in the house and relax at the swimming pool. In the evening we went to the village center to attend the Good Friday Procession (must see!). As mentioned by other guests, the Gozitan people are very nice and were always very helpful.

Since Frans does not live in Gozo he has contracted a local property management firm. Their manager did his best to ensure that we felt comfortable during our stay. He can help with airport transfers or car rentals if needed. He also gave us his mobile phone number in case of emergency.

Overall, we had a fantastic holiday week. We thoroughly recommend the house as a fantastic holiday experience.

STUNNING PROPERTY WITH A LOVELY SUNNY GARDEN!

Me and my husband had a wonderful time staying at 'Arzella', the property is more than adequate for up to 6 people. The pool and garden area is lovely and the sun is in the garden all day still with the option of escaping to the seating area for shade. There is lots of information in the property and guides for you to have fun-filled days in Gozo. It is local to everywhere, and the people are very friendly and welcoming. There is only one downside, and although there is fans provided, it was very hot and the property would benefit from air-con. Overall, I would definitely visit this property again even with only the fans. Gozo is a beautiful island to visit and you would benefit from seeing the island on a quad bike for a few days.

COCK A DOODLE DOOOOOOOOO

We arrived on the Saturday after picking up the location map from the agent in Victoria unfortunately the same day as the festival in Xaghra and consequently the roads were closed causing the navigator a few problems. However, the house was everything we could have wanted located only ten minutes walk from the village centre with its restaurants and bars.
The garden is the main plus point with the swimming pool being a bonus although as mentioned previously the fans in the bedroom do help but even in September it was still humid and difficult to sleep.
Had difficulty with the cooker and gave up in the end but otherwise everything else worked and although we hired a car you could get round the Island by bus.
Would recommend the property to family and friends and would probably go back.

ARZELLA IS LOVELY

We just stayed a week in Arzella and were really taken by the house, it´s charming and feels very spacious because of it´s beautiful high ceilings and interiors. I can just agree to everything mentioned in the review by the guest before us, they said it all including the loud cock!

From start to finish of our holiday the service all together was great! Everyone was very helpful and made us feel at home.
We're only looking forward til our next stay at Arzella.
