We rented the villa at Sa Nau Perduda with some friends (total of 6 people) in September 2007. The house was fabulous; bright and clean and wonderful views from every room; each bedroom had a balcony or opened onto a terrace. There's a pool overlooking the sea and we were within a very short walk of a beautiful rocky cove and short driving distance to swimming beaches.
The house had a huge dining room table (so we could all eat together when we cooked) and a nice big living room. It had a large terrace off the second floor bedrooms, and smaller balconies off the third floor bedrooms. Each of the 4 bedrooms (one of which doubles as a TV room) had a full private bath. There is also a bathroom on the first floor.
The owners provided a lot of information about the area - there were binders with information about restaurants and local attractions.
Notably, the villa is near Begur, one of the towns highlighted in a recent New York Times article on the Costa Brava.
There is a lot to do in the area and on the Costa Brava in general. The nearby cove and wilderness area is well worth exploring. We spent a lot of time swimming at the local beaches, going to the farmer's market in Palafrugal (where we got the best figs I've ever eaten in my life), drawing, taking photographs, going out to eat, and generally enjoying the view. I don't think we hit a bad restaurant. The villa is well placed for sightseeing on the Costa Brava, and within an hour or so drive of Girona, Empuries, and Cadaqués and the Dali museum. Nearby Begur is charming, with a small castle; there's also a larger castle (and apparently cave paintings) at Montegris, which takes a substantial hike to see.
The only precautions I would make are the following: you will need a car to get around this area, and the house does have a lot of steps, which may be an issue if you have disabilities.
The owners were very responsive and easy to get in touch with; in addition, the local property management company was very helpful when my husband needed to send a fax.
I would definitely recommend this villa to friends, and would rent it again myself.
Owner's Response: We're so glad Jenny and friends enjoyed Sa Nau Perduda as much as we do. The position is so amazing - better than any of our photographs capture. As Jenny says, there's plenty of space for communal living but the house also provides for privacy, with each bedroom having its own en-suite bathroom and individual access to a terrace or balcony. Yes, you do need a car to enjoy the area and the house is set on a hillside with steps up, so you need to take that into account if you have elderly or frail people in your group.
