Photos and Description of the Dorset vacation rental 3 bedrooms, furnished to a high standard, sleeps 5 in comfort.

This cosy comfortable well furnished stone cottage, built recently with plenty of old world charm is situated in the historic village of Portesham where Nelson's Captain Hardy once lived, also the medieval church St Peters. Full central heating, doubled glazed throughout, set well back off the road with private parking at the rear , a small private garden with garden furniture and french doors opening on to it. Downstairs , entrance hall with separate toilet/washbasin, compact modern kitchen and lounge with a separate dining area. Upstairs , modern bathroom with bath, shower,washbasin and WC. Two double bedrooms of similar size with double beds and a single bedroom with single bed. Opposite ,the village post office ,with the Kings Arms pub/restaurant a few minutes walk away. The cottage is at the end of a terrace of 4 constructed in 2000 by a local builder. Nearby is a footpath to Hardy's monument and links to the coastal footpath. 20 minutes from Weymouth channel ferry.

Portesham is an ideal base for touring the area, as the seaside resort and ferry port of Weymouth, ferries to the Channel Islands and France, the county town of Dorchester with its connections to Thomas Hardy, the Georgian town of Bridport, the Swannery and tropical gardens at Abbotsbury, the Jurassic Coast, a National Heritage site and Chesil Beach are all within easy reach. The area is popular with walkers as Portesham has many walks some which link to the South Western coastal footpath. Day trips are possible further afield to Winchester,London , Portsmouth,Bath and Bristol by road or train from Dorchester.. It is possible to take a ferry to Jersey or Guernsey and St Malo in France by Condor ferries from Weymouth. The Abbotsbury Swannery dates back to medieval times when it housed a monastery the ruins of which can still be seen. The area is full of prehistoric and Roman sites and Dorchester Museum has a good collection of artefacts and fossils found locally.

Additional information about rental rates

  • The rents shown are fully inclusive of bedding, towels[beach towels not supplied] there are no other charges.
    One well behaved dog accepted without charge.
    25% of the rental is payable at the time of booking, with the balance due 8 weeks before the rental date.
    If a booking is made within 2 months of the start date then the full rental is due.
    Payment preferably by bank transfer, cheques accepted, also payment by paypal .
    10% discount given off total rent on all bookings of 14 days or over..
    a discount for 2 persons occupying the cottage will be given as well as a discount for returning visitors.
    3 night stays should start on a Friday.
    4 night stays should start on a Monday.
    Weekend rates charged for Friday,Saturday , Sunday and bank holiday nights.
  • In order that cleaning the cottage and changing the beds can be made, we ask our guests to please leave on the day of departure by 10am .
    On the day of arrival please do not arrive earlier than 4pm unless by special arrangement ..
  • In the event of cancellation the rental will be refunded in full ,if we are able to re let the property , also we will offer you alternative dates so you can still take your holiday.
    We recommend you take out travel insurance including cancellation cover to cover accident illness etc..
    In the unlikely event we have to cancel the booking , our liability will be limited to a full refund of any rental paid.
