EXCEEDS EXPECTATIONS, INSANE VALUE, BEST TRIP EVER

  • 5 of 5
I cannot say enough about how helpful, friendly, and hospitable the family Brekke(all members encountered) were to my friend and I. Heidi is a superb host and as down to earth as a landlady could be. The owner's even had their mother open the local shop after hours on our arrival so that I could buy my groceries for the week. The cabin(hytte) defines cozy and views from the dining windows would cost a fortune anywhere else. If nature and the outdoors are your close companions then you've stumbled upon some of their greatest performances in Ortnevik. There are not enough stars for the rating this little gem deserves.

BREKKE CABINS: AN UNFORGETTABLE PLACE

  • 5 of 5
Me and my wife spent 3 nights in the Big Cabin and it was the best time during our 3 week long Scandinavian tour. The house is spacious, clean, properly equipped but the most important is the location, the panorama, the atmosphere. The owners were very friendly and helpful to us. We can recommend this place to those who don't mind the self-catering and want to spend some quite time at a wonderful place.

PASTORAL LOCATION, CHARMING CABIN, HELPFUL HOST

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I spent a delightful week staying in the stone cabin. It was comfortable, well equipped and reasonably priced.

We loved the idyllic setting where we could walk and hike along wooded paths and rivers enjoying the lush green vegetation Norway provides. We loved walking through the small village past the red wooden church, the former school house and on to the village shop, and we loved the view from our cabin of village homes and barns along the hillsides culminating in the blue-green waters of the fjord. We enjoyed taking the ferry to Vik and seeing the stave church and watching the ferry deliver mail on our return.

We so appreciated the hospitality extended to us by our host Eldar and his parents Kristi and Anders. They let us know that it was possible to travel to this location without a car(we took a bus from Bergen to Oppedal where Eldar picked us up) by providing both information on transportation-train, ferry and bus- sight-seeing possibilities and shopping. For those of us new to Norway who planned our own itineraries, this assistance was invaluable. It provided us with peace of mind by not having to worry about travel details while enjoying the beauties of Norway. All this was done because they genuinely care about their guests. We are so grateful for this hand of friendship which was extended to us.

We heartily recommend these rental cabins.

NICEST CHRISTMAS!

  • 5 of 5
I planned this Christmas holiday, without my partner knowing where we would be going. He was so nicely surprised, that we are thinking of doing the same thing next year. The only problem is that we both agree that it will be almost impossible to find such a perfect location and accommodation again. The Fjord landscape is really unique, with its mountains rising almost straight out of the water into steep hillsides; and the Brekke's cabins provided the perfect home, from which we could appreciate this.

We had initially hoped to do plenty of day hikes, but the weather wasn't so optimal to do this. We had also hoped for a white christmas, but got 10 days of rain with only 2 "dry" days- and no snow. This unfortunate (and unusual for this time of year) weather didn't stop us from enjoying the beautiful views around the Fjord. During our stay we explored most of the trails that go through Ortnevik- but taking our time- and went fishing in the rain! I think the very short daylight time (about 9 to 3) and the longer hours of darkness made for a very special atmosphere. You can't "do" as much in the day, so you have to slow down and do less. We didn't try to plan in too much for the day (also because of rain) and so ended up taking our time walking and enjoyed the scenery. It was so nice at the end of the day to come back to a warm (floor heating was great!) cabin and be able to cook a warm meal. The stone cabin itself is really nice and cosy. We also spent a few days in the wood cabin. Both cabins are wonderful and I would love to stay in either one again. But I have to say that the fireplace in the wood cabin really was a bonus- especially at this time of year, when it gets dark so early and we found it very relaxing in the evening to watch the fire burning. Otherwise both cabins had everything we needed- such as cooking ustensils and warm showers.

All the members of the Brekke family that we met (Heidi, Eldar, Anders and Kristi) gave us a warm welcome and they each helped us with our queries and questions throughout our stay. Heidi was extremely helpful in the period prior to arrival, replying to my many questions. Altogether we spent 11 nights in Ortnevik and really wish it had been longer. We were shocked how quickly the time went by and hope that we will one day come back- perhaps at a time of year when the mountain trails are more accessible. A stay in one of the cabins and a hot tub would be the perfect end to a 10 day trek in the mountains!

TOLLE, GUT AUSGESTATTETE HÜTTE IN SCHÖNER LAGE

  • 5 of 5

FANTASTIC VACATION ON THE SOGNEFJORD

  • 5 of 5
My partner and I stayed in the wood cabin for four nights in July and had an amazing time! The view is great, the cabin itself is cozy and well-appointed and there is plenty of hiking, swimming and fishing right nearby. And, most importantly, Heidi and Eldar really make you feel like guests and not just customers. They were friendly, warm and always more than willing to offer helpful advice.

It was also great that they had fishing gear and a sailboat for us to borrow. We managed to have a bit of a misadventure but it all worked out fine in the end! Overall, I really can't say enough positive things about our stay. It's a charming town and a beautiful property. We'd go back in a heartbeat!
