There are over 100 1BR/1BA vacation rentals in the 'Santa Barbara Area' and of these, 77 are supposed to be in 'Santa Barbara'. So how do you chose - location, location, location! And then compare our quality and price.
We are not in Carpentaria, Goleta, Summerland or Montecito. We are also not in the suburbs of Santa Barbara such as San Roque, Mission Canyon, Los Positas etc.
We are in the coveted Historic West Beach area, in a high end residential area, steps from the beach, Las Banos Public Pool, Stearns Wharf, Harbor, world-class dining, and downtown shops, including our own local farmers market. We are not next to the railroad tracks, highway or on a commercial thoroughfare.
Leave your car and associated traffic/parking worries behind. We even offer RARE off street reserved parking.
The Beach Penthouse resides in a historical turn of the century building and retains the charm of the day’s bygone. It has been lovingly restored to reflect Santa Barbara's style including 10 feet vaulted ceilings and whitewashed wood floors through out giving it both a romantic and European feeling.
Within blocks are a European deli and market, bakery and sandwich shop, three wineries and a grocery store leaving little need to leave the neighborhood. In addition there are bike rentals, Segway rentals, peddle surrey rentals, a skate park, the Chase Palm Park with a merry-go-round and the site of a craft fair each Sunday that lines the beach boardwalk. The Santa Barbara Zoo and the Bird Sanctuary are an easy mile and half walk. If you are traveling to Santa Barbara by train the Affordable Penthouse is two blocks from the train station and there is a car rental agency two blocks away in case you want to explore the Santa Ynez Valley wine country. If you are tired of walking, all of these attractions can be reached by a local 25 cents-a-ride shuttle bus that runs up State Street and along the ocean front from the harbor to the zoo.
Our Affordable Beach Penthouse offers 800 square feet, is newly remodeld and offers a fully equipped kitchen done in high quality construction that includes carrera marble countertops and custom cabinets along with all appliances: stove, oven, dishwasher, microwave, refrigerator, coffee machine, blender, toaster, to name a few.
The romantic bedroom offers an orthopedic king bed with a glass door that leads to a private veranda with bistro set, beach chairs and barbeque grill.
The bathroom has a shower tub combination of carrera marble and is brand new and sparking clean.
The living room offers a 42' high definition TV and DVD and adjoins the dining area and fully equipped kitchend, including a desk with complimentary wireless internet access and bright windows with City skyline views.
The Getaway also has its own washer and dryer and very rare at the beach, private reserved parking.
When you book with us, you are booking with the owners, which means you are not dealing with a management company, or a 3rd party call center, or a computerized mobile application. Often times the 3rd party does not live in town or even know the property. We know our properties intimately, as we both own and manage them, and have a 15 year track record. We have stayed in many VRBOs over the years and this, by far, is one of the nicest. The light and airy apartment is charming and well equipped. We had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The directions both before and after arrival were easy to follow. The off street parking space was especially convenient. We particularly enjoyed the eastern view out to the mountains from the living room and the ambiance of the western facing patio. The location is superb; two blocks from beach and marina and there are tennis courts two blocks away. Melanie and Todd were great hosts. All in all a real winner! We are eagerly looking forward to another visit!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely condo. This was our first time to use VRBO as we usually stay in hotels when in SB. Room rates were through the roof this time so we to a look at VRBO. We were so fortunate to have found this place. It had been remodeled and was very comfortable. Lots of windows which made the home feel even larger than it was and added so much wonderful sunshine! We also were able to open all of the windows and let in the cool, ocean air -another plus. It was so convenient to everything that we only used our car once. I wouldn't recommend this home for more than two people or anyone who has trouble with lots of stairs though. After all of the great food and wine we considered the stairs a good workout! Others might not agree:) Todd and Melanie were great to work with and it seems they have lots of properties to choose from.
We arrived in Santa Barbara, and had a vacation home we booked turn out to be a fraud. VRBO was my first stop after that happened.
Melanie, the property manager, was in Europe when I called regarding booking this place in my emergency. She answered my call. From Europe. In the middle of the night. She worked with me through a dying phone, a spent laptop battery, and all the time zones.
To top that off? PayPal was being stupid processing payments, but she let us into the property, and was awesome enough to let us resolve the payment issues while staying there. She totally went above and beyond.
For that reason alone, I'll re-book here if I ever end up in Santa Barbara again.
The rental itself was also amazing. The balcony and the courtyard were perfect. Off-street parking couldn't have been better. The nearness to the beach was great. (The stacked washer and dryer was a special bonus for taking care of clothes one wore to the beach. Didn't have to waste any vacation at a laundromat, which was a wonderful surprise, because we weren't even looking for that feature when booking.)
But the living space with a kitchen and dishwasher, along with writing desk and HDTV served to be the perfect venue for beginning to edit our upcoming novel, "China, My Love," with our guest author, who flew out from Japan to meet us. The entire setup proved to be not just vacation-friendly, and crisis-friendly, but also business-friendly. Our author was also impressed at what we had managed to book, and because of Melanie, we made a spectacular impression that got him to sign a book deal and let us begin our editing work.
I don't think we could praise Melanie enough for what she's offering here. Service was second-to-none, and facility was flawless.

The property is at an excellent location - 2 blocks from the beach and right between the harbor and Stearns Wharf. You can get to state street within 5-10 mins walk. There's reserved parking in the back and a grocery store in about 5 minutes walk. You also have a short drive to the freeway for easy access in out. I don't really know how you could get any better. The property was clean and well appointed - everything you'll need for cooking the fresh seafood bought from the harbor and relaxing with the nice bottle you brought back from the vineyard. Owners were great to deal with, provided some excellent suggestions for things to do and let us know they were there should we need anything. Top Marks!
What a fantastic find! It was so lovely to open the door on arrival and find an apartment so clean and immaculately decorated to such a high standard. There really was everything we could possibly need within the apartment. Fantastic location, only 5 minutes walk from the beach and the main street. The balcony was a real haven after a hard day at the beach. An unlimited supply of towels and a really comfy bed just topped off what was already a wonderful stay.
My wife and I stayed here over the holidays, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Climbing the stairs with our luggage, we had misgivings, which melted away as soon as we opened the door, and discovered our own private nook on the top of the building, with views of the mountains and the activity on the street below. Bicycling is a way of life in this quiet neighborhood.
The bed was comfortable, the decor delightful, the Wi-Fi fast, and the pace of living just as slow as we needed it to be. We made good use of the kitchen, but the local restaurants saw plenty of us, as well. We're undoubtedly coming back.
There are 700+ vacation rentals in the 'Santa Barbara Area'. Vacation rentals pricing follow the same trend as real estate pricing - location, location. The farther out you go out of Santa Barbara, the less expensive the real estate and the better the vacation rental pricing.
We are located in the best area of Santa Barbara - the Historic West Beach Area - 2 blocks to the Beach and downtown Santa Barbara, yet not on a commercial thoroughfare, not next to the railroad tracks or not adjacent a highway.

Credit card payment via PayPal and bank wire transfers are also accepted but in these cases the 4% PayPal fee & $25/wire transfer is applied.
Cancellation policy - the amount of deposit received is subject to loss, excluding the damage security deposit, unless re-rented for that time period.
