SUPERB LITTLE GITE!

  • 4 of 5
My friends and I had a fantastic stay at La Barde which was an easy drive from Bergerac (50mins), Bordeaux (1.3mins) and Perigeux. It really is set in the heart of the Dordoigne and has terrific views of the countryside.

The Gite itself served our needs which was largely relaxing in the sun with a book and being close to local markets. It has the necessities like a hot shower, BBQ, log fire (although far too hot outside!), cooker, double beds and a plunge pool. Actually, the plunge pool was a slight concern before arriving but it was well decked so looked lovely, was so refreshing/clean and overlooked the scenery.

A car is an absolute must, although the tourist information at St Astier were very helpful in organising taxis too and from a wedding we were attending.

There is canoeing (book a day or so early), local supermarket (shuts after 1pm on a sunday!) and fishing nearby and Perigeux is worth a visit.

For us 27-30 year olds it was all we needed and we would certainly return.

AN AMAZING GEM IN THE HEART OF RURAL FRANCE.

  • 5 of 5
Having returned from France after a 10 day stay at this property, I can truly say this is one of the most authentic areas I have ever stayed in Europe. The property itself is very comfortable, with views that immediately help drain away the tensions of every day strains! The peace and quiet, and complete privacy is something we were looking for this time, and we certainly found it here. The house had everything we could have needed; modern and spacious with plenty of outside space and fantastic pool, deck and pergola. Enough room for everybody to get on with what they choose! Also worth noting, that a warm evening walk in any direction from the house is a pleasure, whether it's down past the poppy fields or through the woodland lanes.

The surrounding areas; Brantome, Perigeux, St. Astier were all picturesque, and had fantastic markets to boot. The local kayaking was super, finishing at Bourdeilles - a great way to spend an afternoon. The drive down towards Sarlat is also worth a look - a stunning stretch of towns along the Dordogne river with numerous caves, castles and chateaus to browse through, with a delicious Plat du Jour by the river to help keep up the energy levels!

French towns, rivers, markets, fantastic views, wine, food, comfy house; this really is somewhere that we could see ourselves coming back to time and time again, as you leave feeling as though you have experienced a fine slice of French life!

HALF TERM IN ST ASTIER

  • 5 of 5
After a short (1 hour 20) flight from Exeter Airport and a respectable drive (40-60 mins), we arrived at our home-from-home to start our holiday. And what a place to stay!! Tucked away in the peaceful countryside, with uninterrupted views of meadow and woodland from the sun-deck and pool, this was the perfect retreat to escape to for a half-term-recharge! Despite its peaceful and rural location, it was very easy (with the use of a car) to explore the surrounding area. Of particular note, kayaking between Brantome and Bourdeilles was beautiful and, for some retail therapy, Perigueux is well worth a visit, as is St Astier market!

As for the house itself, it had all facilities required and provided a clean and comfortable base from which to explore (or just soak up the sunshine!).

Thank you Sun Sea Ski for a wonderful holiday destination! :)

GLORIOUS

  • 5 of 5
Wonderful, tranquil location. We came here as part of our tour around Europe. Ideal location for the Dordogne. Peaceful and quiet yet close to shops, supermarkets etc. The garden with the south facing aspects is ideal for sun bathing and cooling in the pool. The house is well equipped, spacious and clean. The sounds of the crickets at night is all you hear! Thank you for letting us stay in your wonderful house. Will be back again!

Périgueux is the county capital of the Dordogne (its Préfecture) a territory roughly corresponding to the ancient Perigord. HERITAGE SITE: The UNESCO World heritage sites of the Lascaux Caves and the region around Les Eyzies. Many local markets to name a few, St Astier, Riberac, Brantome, Bergerac, Sarlat. Local canoeing at Sarlat, Brantome, St Astier. Many places to eat in Perigeuex, Begerac, Brantome, Riberac. Fishing available locally in St Aquilin.Sarlat-la-Caneda is really worth a visit. In the heart of the Perigord Noir, Sarlat grew up around a Benedictine abbey founded in the 9th century. It has a distinct medieval feel about it, with numerous magnificent buildings around every corner you turn. The towns Saturday market is also a main feature with its truffles, foie gras and mushrooms (depending on the season). Brantome is known as the 'Venice of the Perigord', has a VIIIc Benedictine Abbey with monastery gardens, caves 'Grottes du Denier Judgement' and superb restaurants.
