Milla La Maria is a 12,000 square meters property located in a wonderful and quiet residential neighborhood 1 km north of the town centre and a few hundred meters South of the well-known Resorts of Flor Blanca, Milarepa, Red Palms to mention some.
Those who stay at Milla La Marìa enjoy complete privacy. The property is gated with a long driveway that extends from the Front Gate to a large circular private parking area located just off the entry to La Casona. The home is surrounded by magnificent gardens and it is the only rental home on the estate grounds.
The property stretches from the main public road to the beach. Milla La Marìa is a truly exotic retreat surrounded by beautiful Costa Rican flora, with legendary trees of pochote, malinche coral, almendro, Ilán Ilán,and higuerón as well as many tropical fruit trees particularly banana, platano, coco, mamón, cas, carambola , mango, fruta de pan , guayaba, Aguacate, limón and naranja ácida. Most attractive for visitors is the large collection of Heliconias grown on the property grounds and the impresive
number of different kinds of tropical flowers.
Upon entering La Casona, one faces a open leisure living Estancia area [by far, the favorite area of the house!] This area acts as a leisure/ living area. It uniquely creates the ambiance with ceramic tile throughout. It is fully furnished with separate seating areas, hammocks, traditional Costa Rican wood-carved rocking chairs, cocktail table, sofas, and a detached guest bathroom.
This area is adjacent to the pool. This unique indoor open terrace has a distinctive Costa Rican décor, yet features many cultural artifacts acquired by the owner as well as a notorious and large collection of wooden sculptures that the owner has patiently carved throughout the years.
Adjoining the leisure area is the kitchen and dining area. This area is the “heart” of the beach house, with a staircase leading to the sleeping quarters (master bedroom and both right and left wings suites and to the third floor loft). The dining room table seats 10. And the kitchen comes fully equipped with a full-size refrigerator, an oven with stove, sink, microwave, toaster oven, blender, coffee maker, plates & utensils, and a pantry.
As one reaches the second floor one faces an open leisure area overlook by a 3rd floor loft.
The 3rd floor open loft provides 2 twin beds complete with a ceiling fan. The stairs accessing this floor are somewhat steep; and we recommend that these sleeping quarters not be reserved for the elderly or small children.
The master bedroom consists of an extraordinarily spacious bedroom with a king size bed, and a twin bed, Air Conditioning and 2 ceiling fans, a private bathroom, fully furnished with cable TV and internet access.
The Left-Wing of la Casona.
The Left -Wing quarters have one suite. This bedroom includes Air Conditioning, private bathroom. This second floor suite has one queen bed. It is completely secluded and private; an experience of solitude and peace. This suite boasts a private balcony overlooking the property’s lush garden. It also enjoys the choice of having a private entrance as well as entrance from the main house.
The Right- Wing of La Casona:
The Right -Wing quarters have two suites. The upstairs suite offers a spacious bedroom furnished with one king, one queen and one twin size bed. This bedroom include Air Conditioning, private bathroom, full kitchenette (including plates and utensils), dining area for four, refrigerator, sink, coffeemaker, toaster, and microwave. The balcony is a perfect backdrop for enjoying meals and conversation with the lush and serene landscape inherent to the tropics of Costa Rica. It also enjoys the choice of having a private entrance as well as entrance from the main house.
The downstairs suite is completely furnished and has one queen size bed, AC and a private bathroom

This amazing property was named, Milla la Maria, after the owner and retired International Relations professor, Roberto E. de la Ossa T’ s late mother.
Professor de la Ossa fell in love with the location back in the mid seventies. He purchased the property in the early 80’s and over the course of twenty five years has not only established a magnificent vacation home for himself and his family, but has recently opened up the possibility for travelling families, groups, and individuals to rent and enjoy “La Casona” (as this unique land mark is fondly referred to by locals and outsiders who have had the opportunity to spend some time at Milla La Marìa).
Roberto E de la Ossa T purchased this house in 1981
My husband and I, along with our children and grandchildren, stayed at Milla la Maria for a week in Feb., 2015. What a wonderful experience. The owner was there to meet us and give us a tour and information on services and restaurants. Prior to our visit he was very helpful in securing quad rentals and transportation services. He also called several times during our stay to check on us. There are literally no words to describe the beauty of this home and grounds. The home itself is an architectural treasure as are the aesthetics of the home. Yet it was very comfortable and homey with Internet that always worked! The pool area and surrounding grounds all the way to the Ocean were spectacular. The beautiful plantings, sculptures and pool arrangement were so lovely. The walk to the ocean was a delight with again beautiful foliage accompanying you. The walk was very short and voila you arrived at Playa Santa Teresa with miles of beaches that are sparsely populated. The water and surfing were great but most lovely were the sunsets. Words can not do justice! The property is very well kept and Melani, the housekeeper, a dream. She even washed our clothes and any dishes everyday!
My favorite time was when it was quiet in the morning and you could hear the birds and see the animals including monkeys. We all loved the estate cats and Perone the best and cutest little dog!
On these cold mornings back home, I often have visions of our stay and they warm my heart. Perfect for all ages from the most active to those like me who love to lounge and read. I almost forgot to mention that this property is totally secluded with no sight lines to other properties. Yet it is close enough to restaurants, etc. to be very convenient.
Much to do or nothing to do is such a great option. Our kids and grandkids loved quadding and exploring along with the pool and beach. There is zip lining, horseback riding, yoga, etc. available or again nothing but relaxing. Some very good restaurants in Santa Teresa but again never crowded. The town has good stores for groceries and a variety of small shops.
My husband and I travel frequently.and many times have rented homes. This is truly the BEST yet. Milla de Maria is an oasis of beauty. Anyone would be very fortunate to experience it!!
Our group traveled to santa Teresa for a friend's wedding, and we could not be happier that we stayed at Milla la Maria. The house is beautiful, and was more than enough space for 10 adults and one infant. Melania took care of everything, and Roberto checked in with us and was gracious enough to help us figure out the ferry schedule on our return trip. There is a small grocery across the street, which is very convenient. The grounds and pool area are beautiful, and the beach is breathtaking. Thank you, Roberto for an amazing trip!
This house is amazing. all of it. Every year it gets better too. The new kitchen/living room is spacious and breezy. Great to lounge around all day. The pool area has been improved and the new lounge chairs are perfect for all day relaxing. Surf right in front, monkey visits, quiet, right in the middle from the road and the beach with your own path to the shaded sandy beach, you cant find a better place to stay in Santa Teresa. Ah, and the housekeeper Melania is awesome.
It's taken me a while to write this review regretably, but now that it's coming up to Christmas all the memories of last year came rushing back. Myself and my wife stayed here with her mother and my mother and sister, oh and our 2 dogs who were very happy in the outside sitting area. The private garden was beautiful (Roberto is rightfully very proud of his plants and flowers) and we even got to see a family of congo's hanging out in the days sun, baby in tow, towards the end of our stay.
Out of the garden and your'e straight onto glorious white sand beach, we made a fire most nights and during the day the space infront of the house is virtually your own private beach.
We found the local fisherman one village over and grilled, ceviched and fried it all week, it was that good!
Special mention to the very friendly lady who lives on site and takes care of the property (I'm sorry for forgetting your name), incredibly helpful, discreet and amazingly hard working!
We are planning next year to have a second wedding for my family and friends to come from Europe, as ours was only a civil ceremony. We will most likely be contacting Roberto again because we loved the place so much.
5 of us, 3 older kids and 2 adults, spent the most fantastic vacation here last summer. We fell in love with Santa Teresa and hope to return as soon as possible. The beachfront home is absolutely stunning and the garden is gorgeous. We had more than enough space and wish we'd known just how spread out the house was, we could have brought another family with us and not felt cramped! We always felt safe and having a/c in our bedrooms meant we slept soundly and comfortably. The owner of the house is a smart, kind, honest person and his home reflects his personality.
We recently stayed at Milla la Maria early April as part of a 10 day trip to celebrate our 10 yr anniversary. We can't say enough nice things about the property, the owner Roberto and the house keeper Melania. All made our trip fantastic. First, the property is absolutely beautiful! There were only 4 of us that stayed and it was very cozy and would have been just as cozy with twice as many people. The beach is a beautiful short walk from the house. The outdoor space was my favorite. Enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning while watching the wide array of birds, lizards and the occasional howler monkey was a great way to start the day. Roberto met us at the house to give us the tour and some suggestions regarding Santa Teresa and helped us to arrange for ATV rentals for the week. He even called to check in on our during the week and prior to our departing. Melania must keep Milla la Maria the cleanest house in Santa Teresa. Although we spoke very little Spanish, we had very little difficulty communicating with her and she has quite an infectious laugh. We would all highly recommend this particular property to anyone wishing to visit Santa Teresa. Can't wait to go back!
