The Area:
Barx (our Village)
• There are 2 small supermarkets, selling a good range of products, in Barx that are open in the mornings in the week until about 2pm. They normally reopen in the evenings from about 4:30 pm to 8pm (the Spar shop is more reliable). The Spar shop is also open on a Sunday morning, they do spit roasted chickens on a Sunday, but they need to be ordered the day before.
• There are 3 Butchers, 2 Bakers and a new small Hardware store, also open most days including Sunday mornings.
• Ice can be bought from the supermarkets or the bakers.
• The Chemist is open Monday to Saturday and speaks some English
• There is a Bank, but unfortunately no Cash Machine.
• There are also Bars and restaurants in the centre of Barx. They look a bit grotty (which is typically local Spanish style) but the food is OK and quite good value
Beaches and Markets:
Markets -
There are lots of Markets in the general area in the mornings (lists in the folder) but we like to visit Gandia Market near the Serpis Car Park on a Saturday morning and have a cool drink afterwards at the Liberty Salon, who do a lovely selection of drinks made from fresh fruit. This is on Carrer Major (BBVA bank on corner of street).
If you like market with some second-hand goods but also new items the Saturday morning market in Jalon is nice day out and for those who like a trip out on a Sunday morning there is a new one on Piles Beach (Platja) starting at about 9:30 am.
In the high season (July/ August) there is an evening Market on a Tuesday at Piles Beach (Platja) from about 6pm to 10 pm.
Beaches -
The Beaches stretch for miles near here, particularly Gandia Beach which is really lively in summer with a huge seafront promenade with shops restaurants etc., but there are also nice beaches at Tavernes Beach, Piles, Bellreguard, and South of Oliva.
