LE PELIOOU is a restored stone barn situated at 3000ft elevation on a south facing hill between forest and pasture land, enjoying a superb panoramic view of the high Pyrenean peaks as well as the Garbet river valley and the village of Erce below. It has just been classified 3 epis by 'les Gites de France'. The interior of the house has been renovated for maximum comfort: a terrace and veranda have been added to the original building so that the view can be admired any time of day or season. Total peace is assured as there are no neighbours or noise other than the sounds of cow bells or mountain streams. History: Le Pelioou is a newly restored stone barn. Constructed in granite and slate it has retained its original aspect. It has just been classified 3 epis by 'les Gites de France'. It is 2 km from the village of Erce via a narrow winding road of which the final 1 km is unpaved but passable. Situated on a south facing promontory between forest and pasture land. Total peace is assured as there are no neighbours or noise other than the sounds of cow bells or mountain streams. We look forward to sharing our corner of paradise with you. Shopping: At Erce village (about 2km from the house) there are a cafe-restaurant and a small grocery store with all basic food. At Oust (8 Kms) there are all kind of small store including an excellent bakery. All stores are open everyday even on Sunday morning. Big supermarkets are available at Saint Girons (20 Kms). Many restaurants are available in the surrounding villages.

Ski: Guzet Ski station can be seen from the gite. It is at 14 kms at an altitude of 1400 meters (Pelioou is at 1000 m.). Season usually starts in December and finishes end of March. For more information, please contact us for web site details. In the heart of pine forest, the ski resort of Guzet awaits you. The network of snow-guns has been newly extended for a guarantee of abundant snow the whole season long. This resort offers a wide range of skiing pleasures with its snow park, entertainment, and shops. Unlike bigger station Guzet is never crowded and you will not spend your time queuing.

Other Activities: Farniente. Picking mushrooms, wild strawberries, raspberries & blueberries. Excursions w. donkeys for children, Spa for cholesterol & fitness

MUMS: ' You really do have a little corner of heaven here. Such fantastic views before even getting out of bed ! The house was so lovely. A joy to stay in. Even the weather was fantastic. We appreciated all the thoughtful touches in the house and really don't want to leave today ! I hope we will be back before too long.” RUTH (aged 12): “This is the best house I have ever stayed in for a holiday. I wish I could live here ! My favorite room was the conservatory. I played in it a lot ! All the cows and horses were very sweet, but my favorite had to be the brown one with a bell around the neck. We call her Mrs MooMoo ! but in french its Madame MooMoo ! The first time we saw her was the first morning. She gave us a lovely present at the front door. I was very pleased this house had a balcony. It is very peaceful with the noises of the water running and the cow bells. I don't want to leave... But this is the day we have too. Mums calling so ! have to go. Oh yeah.'

Repos complet dans un gite merveilleusement décoré

Tout était parfait: le cadre, la vue, la qualité de la décoration, le calme, la gentillesse des gens, l'acceuil. L'endroit idéal pour se reposer. Des super ballades dans une nature encore sauvage ou nous avons passé des journées entières sans rencontrer personne.
Le clou du séjour restera le survol des Pyrénées dans le petit avion du propriétaire des lieux.

The very best place

Le Pelioou is an unspoiled area of tranquility. It must be one of the best, if not the very best gites in the Pyrenees. Not just for its pleasant amenities but for the warms of its welcome.
The variety of mountain walks spoils one for choice & we enjoyed several. We also went to the cave at Niaux.
Travelling to Andorra for one day showed the ridiculous nature of humanity. If you like shopping Andorra will suit you – but if you don’t, then don’t spoil your holiday by going. It is horrible!
We have all very much enjoyed our stay. Thanks to a friend recommendation. We would love to come back again next year.

Website has some lovely pictures which tempted us here, but the reality is just stunning! We have never been more impressed with an holiday choice.
When arriving, Michael our 8 year old son, went in first and exclaimed: "Dad, this is a PALACE !!! ".
For one week we had been walking to many places with wild and unspoiled landscape. The locals are very friendly. The kids enjoyed playing with the donkeys.
Great house, great views, great time. We will come back.
