Santa Pola and the Island of Tabarca:
Santa Pola (5 mins south) is a beautiful old fishing town, which is home to one of the largest fishing fleets in the Mediterranean. It is an excellent spot for fishing, there is a lovely promenade, blue flag sandy beaches, excellent fish restaurants, historical sites and excellent markets several days a week. There is a castle in the centre with lovely cafes in the square which surround it.Santa Pola is very Spanish with many excellent restaurants and Tapas bars.
It is surrounded by large natural saltwater lagoons, which attract an abundance of wild birds and pink flamingos. The Island of Tabarca can be reached by taking a glass-bottomed boat from Santa Pola or Alicante and there is a protected marine environment to explore around.
Alicante and Benidorm:
Alicante (10 minutes drive away) has beautiful blue flag sandy beaches, a wonderful marina, many places of historical interest including a medieval castle, exclusive shops, restaurants, tapas bars, open-air cafes, clubs, parks and gardens. There is also a charming coastal railway which runs up to Benidorm and Denia stopping at many coastal resorts along the way where you can spend a lovely day on the beach.
In Benidorm (35 minutes drive away) you can visit Aqualandia Water Park, Mundomar Animal Park, Sea World and the theme park Terra Mitica.
Elche:
Elche (10 minutes away) has a history going back over 2000 years, contains the largest palm tree plantation in Europe and is now listed as a World Heritage site. History, monuments and culture form a rich combination in its historical centre, offering sites and attractions such as Roman Baths, Castle,Medieval Cathedral and numerous other historical sites.
There are also great shops and pavement cafes/bars in this lovely town and a day is well spent visiting Elche.
There is also a small Safari Park just outside Elche which is worth a visit.
Golf:
There are several championship golf courses in the area - El Plantio and Alenda Golf are approx 15 minutes from the apartment and Alicante and Bonalba Golf are approx 20 minutes drive away. There are also many other courses in the region, addresses and telephone numbers of which are available on request.
