County Clare House Rental Photos and Description

The property contains 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom & sleeps 6 people

This spacious semi-detached property with its views over the Atlantic Ocean is in a prime location in an unspoilt, unique and stunning limestone landscape. It is within 1.5 Kilometers of a blue flag beach, and the village of Fanore with its fabulous Italian restaurant, O’Donoghue’s pub and a small grocery store are within a 5 minute walk. Arranged over two floors the downstairs portion of the house has a living room with an open fire and dining area.. This opens out on to a garden with seating area and at times superb sunsets over Galway Bay. On this floor there is also a comfortable sitting room with seating for 6 people, and a bedroom with bunks (sleeping two persons) The well equipped kitchen looks to the east over the Burren hills. Upstairs the double bedroom and delightfully decorated twin room exudes a warmth all of their own. Also on this floor is the bathroom, which has recently been refurbished.

Touring the area: To spend some time in this unique Burren landscape is to experience the delight of the region, timeless, austere beauty of hills, valley, sky and sea. From May to September the colours of the landscape change as plants, flowers and the beauty of wild butterflies mammals and bird life adds to this unique place. The house is located in the north western corner of County Clare. This area commands magnificent views of the Aran Islands (one of which, Inisheer, can be reached from Doolin) and Galway Bay. This is the ideal location for touring the West of Ireland, Connemara, the Shannon region and Kerry. Some of the top attractions of the region are all within 10 miles of the house, Alliwee Caves, Poulnabrone dolmen. the Cliffs of Moher with its recently opened interpretive centre. The villages of Ballyvaughan, Kinvara, Doolin, Lisdoonvarna and the town of Ennis offer a special Irish hospitality, with wonderful restaurants, pubs and speciality shops.

I just want to tell you that everything was fine! The house is spatious and clean, and we felt comfortable about staying there. The Burren is a fantastic landscape, and it was great to be right there!

The house was perfectly set up, it was clean and everything was fine. It's located in one of the most beautiful areas we ever visited. Regardless if you like the ocean, beaches or mountains you find everything close by.

A nice holidayhome with rainy conditions

  • 5 of 5
We arrived in the holidayhome of Anna with a weatherforecast of 5 rainy and stormy days, so our mood wasn´t at its best, but after our arrival we felt like home. Fresh Flowers on the table in the kitchen was more than a warm welcome, very nice furnished room, a brilliant location with sea view and everything clean and cosy, thank you very much. They also thought of the very petty little things like briketts (we needed them), salt, sugar, kitchen facilites for the dish washer etc.. Very handy. The shop is only a stonethrow away opposite O´Donoghous? pub, well equipped. The beach (we have already known it from our last stay) is in walking distance (15 minutes) or a short drive by car (3-5 minutes). Other sightseeing like Cliffs of Moher, Ailwee Cave and more needs a half-day trip. Though the heavy rain and storm we felt warm and comfortable in their house, to make fire was my sons tribute each day. At the end we were lucky and the weather cleared up and we had 2 wonderful and warm days nearby the beach.

Anniversary & Birthday Celebration

Anniversary & Birthday Celebration
  • 5 of 5
For our 37th anniversary and my son's & daughter in law's, we decided a trip to Ireland would be ultimate celebration. The cottage was perfect--clean, modern, roomy enough for 4 adults, comfortable beds, and a well-equipped kitchen. The location was ideal, between the Cliffs of Moher and Galway City with great little towns, shops, pubs, restaurants in between. The beach was a little jaunt on a lovely country road surrounded by stone-walled fields filled with horses, cows, donkeys and sheep. We even had a cute spaniel type dog that greeted us every morning (the cookies helped). We loved being able to walk to the pub for fresh fish & chips and Guinness on tap. We also were able to catch a bus at the local shop that took us to Galway City so we didn't have to drive. In fact. the only negative of our entire trip was the driving. My advice (if you are driving) rent a small automatic car!

Other than the driving, my hubsband and I (early 60's) and our son & daughter in law (age 26) all found the west coast of Ireland, the activities, the sights, and the lovely cottage to be the best holiday ever.

Fantastic getaway on beautiful Burren

  • 5 of 5
I stayed in this property in July 2009 with my family that consists of myself and my wife and three children aged 4, 2 and 4 months. This property and the Fanore area is ideal for anyone with a young family. Within walking distance is a shop/post office, restaurant and family friendly pub. Two minutes in the car gets you to a fantastic sandy beach. The beach is easily accessed from the free car park which has a toilet, shower and has a life guard patrol. The property is comfortable and has everything you need with great views of the sea and Galway bay. There are two fire places, a TV, DVD and CD player, dish washer and washing machine/dryer - there's even an interesting selction of CD's to keep you entertained. Electricity is paid for via a metre (2 euros), it is very reasonable and seemed to be good value. We were made to feel welcome by the local representative and the friendlly neighbours. The surronding area is beautiful - the drive along the coast road from Ballyvaughan to Fanore is breathtaking. There is loads to do which is easily accessible via car in Co Clare and Co Galway - although we spent alot of our time in the local beach. We had a fantastic holiday and our only regret was that we could not stay longer.

Excellent Getaway!

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I stayed a week here in September and had a wonderful time. John and Anna, the owner's, could not have been more accommodating (thank you so much for going above and beyond) and were so patient with a such a pain of a Yank! Eileen, the caretaker, was so friendly and helpful and truly respected our privacy! We may not stay here when we come back (only because we didn't get to see other parts of Ireland) but we definitely recommend Sonas to anyone wanting a clean, comfortable, quiet, quaint and friendly place with a beautiful view of the Atlantic Ocean and the Aran Islands. Be sure to see the Cliffs of Moher from above and below and eat seafood chowder everywhere you go!

Heaven probably looks something like Fanore, Clare

  • 5 of 5
The property has an ocean view and is set against the Byrne. The location is also walking distance from a pub (great food), post office and a general store. The property's caretaker also works at the local store, so she is accessible, accommodating and helpful. My family and I found the beach bungalow to be clean and modern, and we especially liked the quality of the bed linens. The only inconvenience (and its not really an inconvenience) was that my 73 year old father did not like having to climb the stairs everytime he had to use the bathroom, but it did not bother myself or my mother. The attractions in the surrounding area are well worth seeing, and if you have time take the ferry to the largest of the Aran Islands. Once you arrive do not take the donkey and cart tour instead jump in a van; you will see much more of the Island and in comfort. Definitely do the climb up to the fort of Dun Aengus, the Irish version of Peru's Machu Picchu.
I highly reccommend this property, and we will definitely stay at this charming beach house again.

Sonas holiday cottage is situated in the village of Fanore which is in the heart of one of Ireland’s greatest natural glory, The Burren. A green road walking route, The Burren Way, which begins in Ballyvaughan, twists its way past historic sites, areas of outstanding beauty passing by the house to finish in Lahinch, which boasts a world-class golf course and some of the country’s best surfing. Sonas is in the perfect location for touring the West of Ireland and the Shannon region, perhaps taking a ferry from Doolin, the spiritual home of traditional music in Ireland to visit the Aran Islands.

Other Activities: For those of you who are music lovers, Doolin (10 miles) is renowned for its traditional Irish music.
