The Old German School studio is a larger than average, airy studio flat, with the feel of a much larger place due to its generous proportions and layout, on the LOWER GROUND FLOOR of a listed converted Victorian school. Although it is classed as lower-ground it is not a dark airless basement as it has large windows and natural light in all the rooms but it is lower ground so please do not book if you are not happy with this. It is also double-glazed to the front so is relatively quiet for the centre of London. It is less than two minutes walk to Aldgate East tube which is zone 1 and five minutes walk to the beginning of Brick Lane and, in the other direction, ten minutes walk to Tower Bridge and the Tower of London.

The building was built as a German Lutheran School in 1877 and converted ten years ago to luxury apartments in the grounds of the oldest German church in the country.

The flat comprises a hall with fitted storage cupboard, a walk-in drying and storage room perfect for suitcases, wood flooring throughout, a fully fitted attractive eat-in kitchen and a good-size studio room with fitted wardrobes, sofa and pull-down quality bed. There is also a good-sized bathroom with shower attachment above the bath and a large window (with blinds!).

There is a locked gate (with video entryphone) and the flat is down a locked staircase to a private front door so is extremely secure and very suitable for single women travellers.

Check-in time is 16.00 and check-out time is 10.00 but we offer an early arrival or late departure for 25 GBP.

Our rates include absolutely everything: all taxes, utilities, high quality bed linen,fluffy towels, Oyster cards, unlimited high-speed WIFI, free phone calls to landlines in the US, Australia, NZ and all major countries and end-of-stay cleaning. We also quote a totally all-inclusive rate which encompasses a driver to meet you at the station or airport and deliver you in comfort and safety to the flat!

We require a 200 GBP security deposit which is refunded swiftly after the stay (unless there is a cancellation in which case the deposit is not refundable although we always do our utmost to rebook the time and refund any money we can) and a copy of the principal guest's passport as security.

A Little Gem!

The studio is well planned, clean and tidy, with a comfortable bed. The studio was warm and cozy in the chilly spring when raining outside. The stairway is for the able bodied, with winding steps down to the flat. The well organized kitchen is a pleasure to use. The washer and dryer were a welcome bonus since I had been traveling for two weeks prior to arriving. Excellent customer service. Nearby access to the Aldgate East and Aldgate Tube stations made it easy to get around in London. You can find a lot of information about the "London Tube" online via a Google search, such as system maps and information about how to use the Tube and bus system with an Oyster card. A standing file folder full of reference material for museums and other attractions is very helpful in planning your day. Two electrical plug adaptors were provided (note that these are not transformers to convert the current to 110V). Local grocery stores are within walking distance for the Sainsbury stores and the larger Waitrose store. Some bookstores, such as Barnes & Noble, in the U. S. carry durable plasticized city maps and you can find one for London easily enough (worth the price).

An excellent place to visit London center

The studio is well thought, nicely decorated, the beds are very comfortable and the services included are very convenient. Many thanks to Elizabeth and Anna for their welcoming and positive attitude.

Careful to the access as it is on the lower ground floor by steep stairs. Though we had a buggy for the baby, and we managed to get it in and out every day.

Fantastic

We have been in London some days ago and we were very surprised to find a so cute accomodation (more than described!)

The flat is very near the tube station and easy to reach. The accomodation was very clean, tidy and.....british! It has been possible to find everything you need during an holiday in a flat (teapot, kettle, knives, soap, dryer and even current transformer!)

The customer service was excellent and gave us any information needed to improve our stay in London.

Excellent Experience

Clean, convenient, wonderfully located near Tower Bridge, shops, pubs, restaurants and tube stations. The flat was nice and warm, cozy coming back to after a day's sightseeing to put your feet up and have a cup of tea. Caring, thorough, experienced booking agent (Elizabeth), friendly owners; all of whom are concerned with your experience, welfare and comfort. I have stayed here before and will come back again!

Fabulous London Hideaway

Perfectly positioned for exploring London. Incredibly secure and quiet. I was visiting with my daughter and spent quite a lot of time investigating on my own, but always felt comfortable and cozy. The property manager is the best I've ever encountered-great communicator, stays in touch throughout your stay, provides detailed information answering all your questions. There were 2 Oyster cards that came with the apartment (you must load a package or pounds on to the card) that saved us a few pounds-easy to use and the tube station is 2 short blocks away. Grocery store, restaurants and pubs within 1 block. Bus stop around the corner. I would definitely stay here again.

I agree with all of the reviews of this property. The listing is accurate and the flat is clean and well-maintained. The location relative to Aldgate East Underground station is a big plus and the flat is less than 5 minutes walk of grocery shopping and a variety of restaurants. The owner/manager is very helpful and provided excellent service. We will stay here on our next visit to London.

Where do I begin?? You're in the centre of one of the most vibrant and exciting cities in the world. The local area has changed dramatically in the past decade. Brick Lane was always a hub for 'Indian' restaurants but has been regenerated as THE destination in London for bars and shopping. We have always had wonderful markets. The newly-restored Spitalfields market is now a hub of fantastic shops and eateries with an antiques market on Thursdays. Of course there's still the historic Petticoat Lane every day except Saturday and on a Sunday morning the fantastic flower market in Columbia Road. As well as flowers there are wonderful places for brunch and gorgeous independent shops.

In the other direction we have the Tower of London, Tower Bridge and the charming St Katharine Docks with its pubs and restaurants.

  • The large bathroom has a bath with shower overhead, basin and loo. There is ample shelf space and storage under the basin as well as a very wide windowsill.

  • There is a high-quality UK (4 ft 6 in wide) double bed in the large and light studio room. This retracts into the alcove in the daytime to give you an attractive space as a sitting room although there is sufficient room with the bed down. It's quite a large room with two big (double-glazed) windows. Because of the layout of the flat, with five separate rooms (living room, kitchen, bathroom, hall and walk-in storage room) it does not feel like a studio at all. There is plenty of room for two people to stay without feeling cramped. We can accommodate another guest on a single bed that can be installed in the studio room so, as it is the same room as the bed/living area, it is best suited for two travellers who do not wish to share a bed or for a child travelling with parents. The room is very snug with both beds in position but it may be ideal for those seeking a small pied-à-terre in zone one and who do not require a lot of space.

We provide a Meet & Greet service whereby a driver greets you at the airport or station and delivers you safely and stress-free to the flat. We also provide Oyster (uploadable travel) cards to start you off on your journey around London and also to save you having to pay the non-refundable initial payment on them. The flat has always been a non-smoking environment, it has wooden floors and blinds, a leather sofa and very little in the way of soft furnishings so dust has nowhere to hide. The owner has a dust allergy so is very well aware of the problems involved in staying in a dusty environment. The flat has a dehumidifier to prevent any dampness and also a top-of-the-range air cleaner can be borrowed.
