Fantastic Riad in a fascinating location with heated pool, maid and cook.

This atmospheric Riad is set in an imposing position in the Kasbah of Marrakech located in the desirable

southern end of the Medina. The house is very close to the 12th century Kasbah Mosque, the famous and beautiful Saadian Tombs, and the El Badii Palace dating from 1578, which is when the house was probably built. A short walk takes you to all the sights of this exotic city including the amazing Place Djemaa el Fna with its snake charmers, story tellers, and acrobats. The Kasbah area is alive with street markets, local restaurants, shops, children playing, artisans and Moroccans going about their daily life. Marrakech also offers World class restaurants and nightlife, as well as being close to the Atlas Mountains. The Riad has been returned to its former splendour and offers spacious accommodation that can only be rented as a whole, providing a beautiful private space for a family holiday, or a group of friends.

Staff: We are lucky to have some lovely staff that provide a very warm welcome and service that is both homely and friendly. They offer the kind of hospitality you would be afforded on a visit to their own home. None of the staff live on the premises giving you total privacy during most of the day.

The Housekeeper is a fantastic cook and her traditional Moroccan food will not be bettered at any restaurant, it also provides excellent value at 150 Dirhams (£9) per head. Lunch is also possible if required. Amel is also happy to help with shopping and cooking for any children that stay.

The maids visits daily and ensure the house is clean and tidy. Many guests have referred to the service provided as catered self-catering, allowing every member of the group to relax and enjoy their holiday with the flexibility of a private space and the luxury of having people to look after them and the house.

Houseman: It is a strange concept to have a houseman, but one you soon get used to. Soulaimane will collect you at the airport and arrange your transfer (costs paid locally). He serves all meals taken in the house including breakfast and can buy wine and beer on your behalf.

He will ensure that you are comfortable negotiating the small streets that make up the Medina and the route to and from the house. He can escort you to places of interest but he is not an official guide and would be questioned if he was seen to be acting as one so do not be surprised if he walks a few paces if front of you.

He really is there to help with anything necessary, from finding wrapping for the lamp you intend bringing home, making restaurant reservations or serving drinks before dinner. All you need to do is ask and our staff will do their very best to see it happens.

Activities: We are currently compiling information on excursions and activities that can be offered to guests and hope to have this in the house in the near future. We have already tracked down a company that offer hot-air balloon flights over the city to the mountains, a large complex on the outskirts of the city with a huge pool and artificial beach as well as four wheel drive trips into the mountains or desert.

Within the very heart of this amazing city to the preferred southern side of the Medina, there is easy access to all the wonderful sights and sounds. A few hours drive will take you to the Atlas Mountains that offer a cool retreat during the summer and skiing in winter. The coast is accessible as a day trip or for an overnight stay. Golf courses abound and trips can be taken into the depths of the dessert.

From the roof terrace can be seen several of the areas attractions including the Atlas Mountains, Kasbah Mosque, Koutoubia Mosque, Badii Palace, the Saadien Tombs as well as the rooftops of the kings palace. The location is fascinating and provides a real insight into the life of the ancient Medina and the friendly Moroccans that live there. Golf: Marrakech has several very good golf courses, some that were exclusively created for the King but are now available to the public. A little Internet research before your trip could prove invaluable as these places do get busy during the popular periods.

Ski: Skiing is available for a limited period during the winter months. I understand that the resort is only an hour or two from the city but not having visited the slopes personally a little Internet research is advised.

Rental Rates for this vacation house rental in Medina, Morocco

Payment is usually accepted in the quoted currency () unless the currency and the amount is specifically agreed in advance with the owner / advertiser.

Notes

  • Rental rates are for the entire house. Up to 4 people for a 4 night stay £700 plus £150 for each additional person. Up to 4 people for a seven night stay £900 plus £200 for each additional person up to a maximum of 9 people.
    Children under 10 years do not incur an additional charge.
    High season rates may apply.
    The house can accommodate additional numbers if necessary, please contact to discuss requirements.
  • Rental includes breakfast, daily maid service, housekeeper, bed linen, towels, exclusive use of the entire house.
  • Additional Charges: The cost of the Houseman is paid locally at 100 Dirham (£6) per night.
    Dinner is available at a charge of 150 Dirham per head, paid locally to the house keeper. Simple food can be prepared for children at a reduced rate.

    Please note: The Moroccan immigration authotities demand that visitors hold a passport valid for a minimum of SIX MOTHS AFTER your date of departure from the country.

Wonderful Riad, Perfect for our group

We four ladies travelled to Marrakech for our annual get-together in April 2012 and had a fabulous week at Riad Hugo. The Riad was exactly as it is shown in the photos and the staff made us feel truly pampered. As we settled into the routine we realised how fortunate we were to have the oasis of the riad to return to after a day out and about whether we had been sightseeing/shopping in Marrakech or had gone further afield. We loved the traditional feel of the house and all of the intricate workmanship of the wood door frames and tilework – along with the amazing photographs and textiles used for decoration. The staff were lovely and couldn’t have done more to make our stay pleasant. We ate in a three nights and had delicious meals. Amal is a fantastic cook and I’m only sorry we didn’t get some tips from her on Morrocan cuisine! Soulaimane arranged a day trip to the Atlas mountains on our second day and a day trip to Essaouria on our 5th day and both were great outings. He kept us well supplied with whatever groceries we needed and gave us helpful advice every morning. As the week went on the weather got warmer and we loved sitting on the roof terrace and hearing the call to prayer in the late afternoons. Stuart was extremely helpful in the months ahead of our trip, always replying prompty to our e-mails with helpful advice. We all would highly recommend the Riad for anyone looking for a more traditional experience in Marrakech.

We had a fantastic time in your wonderful house. We made a number of day trips but also spent a considerable amount of time at the house and its surroundings and enjoyed it immensely. Being in the middle of the city where "local" life is happening was a wonderful experience.The staff was EXCELLENT and contributed big time to the success of that week

Truly unforgettable Holiday!

We were a party of 4 adults and 2 children and had an amazing holiday! The house exceeded all expectations and was spotlessly clean. The option to eat in was a real bonus and we ate out only one evening. It was lovely to have the food brought to us and no washing up. We felt very spoilt! There is plenty to see and do in Marrakech and we also had a daytrip to Imlil in the mountains - fantastic day, we walked and the children rode a donkey - and one afternoon we went to the water park which the children loved. Everywhere we went people were very kind to us and welcomed us to their city. It was a very special holiday and we would highly recommend both Marrakech and Riad Hugo.

Great Holiday

Riad Hugo is fabulous - spotlessly clean, beautifully furnished, very comfortable. The staff were excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed our meals.

Our day out to the Atlas Mountains was a real highlight. Soulaimane took us to a few interesting stops then after lunch Sofian took us up to the waterfalls - quite a trek but he was magnificent, making sure we all made it up and down safely.

We enjoyed wandering round the Medina - getting lost a few times but that's all part of the experience! It is very different - busy but with a pleasant bustling atmosphere. We also enjoyed lazing on the roof terrace.

All in all an excellent location from which to explore Marrakesh and the surrounding area.
