2 years ago my wife & I returned to Chateau Sentout for the first time in 18 years, to be greeted in the same warm and friendly manner by the owners, Gerard & Mary.
In some respects, it was as though we had never been away - in others, the improvements to the overall facilities were self-evident.
The accommodation was as it always had been, comfortable and private, but the excellent pool area allowed you to meet the other guests when you were of a mind to.
The parkland area has been created out of what could only be described as a jungle - an ancient and sadly overgrow vineyard, which now provides a tranquil area for relaxation and a playground for the numerous red squirrels who run about all day.
The location of the chateau is sublime, and strategically placed to enjoy the attractions of the surounding area - whether it be the beaches of the Atlantic coast, the finest wine-producing area in the world or the beauty of the Dordogne and towns such as St Emilion.
Bordeaux itself is so accessible, and is certainly one of the most attractive cities in Europe.
Self-catering is made simple as a result of having well-stocked and agreeable supermarkets and village shops within a 5 minute drive.
And a visit to Chateau La Brede is only 15 minutes by car, and is quite enchanting.
A drive up the excellent road through the Dordogne valley is a must - taking in the historic towns of Castillon and Bergerac, places that are steeped in history and beauty.
The chateau at Montbazzilac is impressive, even if the local wine is a bit sweet to a lot of tastes - stick to the Sauternes and Barsac if you like a dessert wine.
The other attractions in the area are too numerous to mention, but the owners will give you every advice to make your stay at Chateau Sentout a memorable and rewarding experiencs.
