The village is well located for visiting many attractions, towns, cities and rural areas. There is a varied assortment of things to do which would satisfy most tastes. Some on the doorstep, others with a drive out. Whether it is walking the Shakespeare Way, visiting Warwick Castle, Blenheim Palace, Royal Shakespeare Theatre, sports events like Cheltenham Races, cricket at Edgbaston, shopping at Bicester Village designer outlets or a bus from Oxford or fast train to London for the day. All possible from here

The recently renovated cottage sleeps 4/5 people – the perfect size for a break away with close friends or a romantic holiday with your partner. Rooms have been prepared with care and attention using subtle décor to reveal ageing wooden beams and beautiful Cotswold stone walls. During winter months it is very warm and cosy but In the summer, because of the thick stone walls the cottage remains cool when it is hot outside. the perfect all year round choice!

The fireplace is ready to light, provided with a basket of logs and extra available to purchase from the owner. For visitors with young children we have provided a fireguard which fully encloses the inglenook and protects enquisitive youngsters from burning themselves on the hot stove. There is a large widescreen HD Television with Freeview, DVD and CD player. There are two comfortable sofas and an additional covered chair. Two table lamps and one floor lamp provide soft intimate lghting, but there are also brighter ceiling lamps to help with seeing the jigsaws on the coffee table or reading one of the many books to choose from.

The kitchen/ diner with tiled floor, is well equipped with a fridge, dishwasher, electric cooker, comfortable seating, crockery, glassware and cutlery for five people. Highchair also lives in the kitchen for use when required. Leading off from the kitchen there is a utility room containing a large ceramic Belfast sink, and drying space. Leading through an oak door in the kitchen there is access to Milestones' own child and dog proof garden (unless you have a tiny dog) , with dining table and seating area to enjoy those long summer evenings close to the gas BBQ (Gas provided)! Having previously owned and run several holiday letting properties, when the opportunity arose to purchase the lovely Milestones cottage, not at the other end of the country, but right on our doorstep, it was too good to miss. We had just sold our little restaurant in Stow on the Wold, so it was the perfect time for us.With our background in both hospitality and training, we love welcoming new guests for their holidays, aiming to make sure that nothing stands in the way of them having a good time.

Mrs Melanie Smart purchased this cottage in 2007

When we ventured into purchasing Milestones, although it had not been lived in for many years, we were facinated by the delightful friendly feel that the building had. It just needed to be coaxed back into life and have one or two modern additions. We love it so much ourselves that we are just tempted to move into it ourselves at some point!

New en suite bathrooms and a new kitchen were added. Not forgetting of course the very popular wood burning stove. Just an addition to the efficient background heating. The location is just perfect for lots of reasons. Being convenient for driving to many towns and attractions has many advantages if visitors want to get about to a variety of places, as an alternative to being completely isolated. There are pleanty of very rural walks around if visitors want to loose themselves in the beauty of the Cotswold Hills. Being just next door, we are usually on hand if there are any problems, but are very definately not intrusive once visitors are arrived and settled.

PERFECT COTSWOLDS COTTAGE

  • 5 of 5
We had a lovely stay at Milestones this past weekend. My three friends and I were in need of a city break and we found Milestones to be the perfect escape. The cottage is very cozy and nicely decorated. The owners have books of Cotswolds information, the cottage is fully loaded with DVD’s and kitchen is completely stocked. A wonderful pub (The Red Lion) and a village shop are a short walk away. Easy to get there from the Moreton-in-Marsh or Banbury stations. We didn’t have a car and didn’t feel like we needed one. If you need a little escape from London and want to enjoy the Cotswolds, we recommend you visit Milestones!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely review. It is certainly very different here to being in the city! So glad to hear that it all worked well for you on a short break without a car. A great recommendation for others who just fancy escaping the city life for a few days but don't have easy access to wheels. If you can get away another time with a car as well, there are also so many places to visit within easy drives out from Milestones. We hope to see you again.

LITTLE LESS THAN PERFECT

  • 5 of 5
We find it difficult to write about our week at Milestone without resorting to cliches. We arrived weary from a long trip and the stress of learning to drive on the left hand side. We walked in to a cottage that was quaint, picturesque, little less than perfect. Everything was spotless. All the amenities we needed were there, including everything required for a much needed cup of tea. It was a bank holiday, but David, the landlady's husband, directed us to an open grocery in nearby Chipping Norton. Soon we were taking turns in the whirlpool bath before climbing into comfortable beds. And everything was so quiet!

We used Milestones as a base for seeing the Cotswolds and had no trouble getting where we wanted to go. We hiked the beautiful countryside around Long Compton. We ate often and well, especially at the Red Lion in the village. We saw the well-publicized sites and the not-so-well publicized ones and enjoyed them all.

By the end of our week, we questioned why we were heading into London rather than staying put. We could not have asked for a better holiday, and we hope to return to Milestones again (without our adult children next time!) We can not recommend Melanie and Milestones more highly.

COZY, WARM COTTAGE WITH OVER THE TOP SERVICE

  • 5 of 5
This review is way over due and for that I am sorry.
The house is wonderful. It is cozy and warm just what you want from a cottage in England. It has everything you need from the kitchen to the bathrooms. The beds were comfortable it had the extras that make a family stay enjoyable for everyone. Melanie even set up a cot for the baby and there were books, movies and games for the kids to play. It was also nice to have a place to park our car. I have no complaints about the house but what I really want to tell you about it the amazing service.
After only being in the house a few hours, one of my children injured himself playing with his sibling. It was a serious cut and so I went next door to see she had some steri strips to put on it. Melanie and her husband hunted around and found the best supplies she had. She then called a neighbor that was a nurse and it was decided that we should take him to the emergency room. Well it was dark, rainy and I had yet to drive in England and was nervous about driving on the other side of the road. Melanie, took myself and my son to the emergency room while my husband stayed with our other three children. She even sat with us while we waited it out and returned home late that night. Thank you, thank you. I don't know where else you will find that kind of service. Even though we had our little trip to the ER we enjoyed our time there. We took a day trip to Oxford and enjoyed walking around the area and having lunch at the Red Lion. It was one of the best places we stayed on our two week trip through England.

DELIGHTFUL COTSWOLD COTTAGE

  • 5 of 5
This is the ideal country cottage - combining historic character and quirky features with the best of modern conveniences. The en-suite bathrooms are particularly well designed and equipped. The cottage is full of thoughtful touches more usual in a home than a holiday cottage. Highly recommended!

A GREAT STAY.

  • 5 of 5
We had been traveling a few months when we arrived in the UK in July.
The Cotswold is my favourite place in England.
Long Compton is a very quaint village lots of nice walks.
When I emailed  Melanie she was very helpful and informative.
Milestones is a really lovely cottage it had every thing we could possible need.
Every thing was spotless, great having a loo down stairs.
There are two very nice bedrooms each with an en suite.
The Red Lion pub has some good food.We also love Daylesford Organic  great for lunch, and lots of goodies to take back to Milestones.
Also just up the road was a very nice garden nursery which had a great shop with a deli, meat and veggies  and coffee shop with home made cakes.
We shopped at Tesco in Stow. There is a council car park next to Tesco you can park and walk, less then 5 minuets In to town.
As parking is always hard in Stow On The Wold.
There is a lot of information in the cottage on where to go and what do.
Would be very nice in winter as it has a big log fire. There is also a very nice
garden at the back which has a table and chairs to sit and have a wine or two.
Also a gas barbie, but we did not use.
There are so many lovely places to visit from Milestones, Upper Slaughter & Low Slaughter,Morton On The Marsh. Stratford On Avon the list goes on and on.Thank you so much Melanie, we just loved staying at your lovely cottage.  Marie & Mal.

LOVELY COTTAGE IN LONG COMPTON

  • 5 of 5
A lovely cosy little cottage. Very helpful and friendly owners just next door. Excellent location for visiting so many places of character and interest.

The cottage was spotless and beautifully looked after. The beds were very comfortable and as each had a bathroom, it worked very well.

We were a party of 2 adults, a teenager and a lively medium sized dog.

We did park and ride into Oxford and had a pre-booked walking tour of the university and town through the tourist office. A great way to see it.

We also saw The Tempest at the RSC on one of the evenings and on the others we either went to the village pub ( where the food was fab) or did home cooking and then curled up in the living room and enjoyed a DVD.

Daisy the dog loved it and the cottage was great for local walks.

We would definitely think of booking again.
