Spacious old chateau located in charming village with a 12th century collégiale church. The property is an old winery, and in historic times, a priory. Perfect setting for two persons, or up to 4 couples. Arrive to complimentary bottles of our favorite local sparkling, white and red wines. (Inquire about rental rates for smaller parties. If you prefer, pay in pounds or $.) Master bedroom sleeps a 3rd person. Stone walls, open beams, fireplaces, turrets, and classic windows overlooking a private interior courtyard. Close to Saumur, Angers, Tours, Chinon and many Loire chateaux, the Abbey Fontervraud, restaurants, and wineries. A restaurant, bakery, tabac, bar, grocery store, post office, and pharmacy are a short walk in the village. The house is located in an authentic French village, where you can take quiet walks in the vineyards, and taste wines from many of more than 30 vignerons. Visits to local vineyards can be arranged for wine tasting, and dinners can be set with local restaurants and local residences (table d'hotes). Besides the many chateau and restaurants, you can visit charming Loire villages and cities. Hike through the vineyards, bicycle through back roads, or walk through one of the many open markets in numerous cities and villages nearby. Doué la Fontaine and Montreuil Bellay with hypermarches, castle, zoo, and other sites, are ten minutes away. Saumur, 20 minutes away, is the location of France's national equestrian school with shows open to the public. Art museums are available throughout the area, the most unusual of which is a contemporary art museum in Oiron set in beautiful chateau to which Louis XIV banished his mistress, Madame Montespan. The largest cities nearby: Tours (just over an hour), Angers (45 minutes), Poitiers (1.5 hours), Nantes (2 hours), La Rochelle and the sea (2.3 hours).

A classic stone house with approximately 200 square meters of finished living space. The house has a warm and historic ambiance with high ceilings, attractive functionality, and relative privacy between renters. Beautifully restored and updated with modern amenities. The living room, kitchen and dining room are each about 30 square meters, as well as two of the four bedrooms. Three of the five bath/shower rooms are ensuite. Le Puy Notre Dame is formally classified as one of France's 'Petite Villages de Charme' and a 'Cité de Caractère'. The village has been a center of viticulture for over a thousand years. Over 90 kilometers of caves and tunnels exist under the village, many of which are still used today for wine storage. Portions of the old wall that formerly surrounded the village still remain. The church was on the medieval Road to Santiago de Compostela, and a destination by pilgrims for a relic of the Virgin Mary, which still resides in the church.
