There are plenty of activities and places to explore in the surrounding countryside. Rye is only four miles away with its quaint cobbled streets and ancient buildings, there are many cafes and restaurants and fascinating antique shops to browse. Further down the coast to the west is the internationally renown De La Warr Pavilion art gallery, in land the historic town of Battle. The Weald is a beautiful area for walking and country pubs. Romney Marsh the home to many legends of smuggling is flat so ideal for cycling. To the east is Dungeness an area rich in wildlife and a perfect spot for bird watching. The Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch steam railway passes Dereck Jarman's Prospect Cottage. Take a course of kite surfing lessons from Rye Sports minutes up the road or just head straight out onto the beach for lazing, kite flying and leisurely walks.
