Monte do Casal nestles in the hills close to the village of Sao Bras de Alportel, which has a well stocked supermarket and a fish and vegetable market every Saturday. This is the secret heart of the Algarve where the hills are covered with wild almond, fig, carob and pomegranate trees. Explore the local villages with their whitewashed houses, simple charms and traditional crafts. The Church in Sao Bras , with it's bell tower, goes back to the 15th Century. The area is renowned for it's almond confectionery, especially during the Easter period and there is a 'Hill Festival' during July and August with food, crafts, music, dance and art. There is a bar (Restaurant Diaz) only 1 km away and a restaurant (Monte de Eira) only 6 kms away where the local gastronomy can be sampled.

The pretty town of Loule is only 8 kms away. The streets in the historic centre have retained much of their original charm.
