Cottage / villa:
The cottage consists of 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom with shower and sleeps 4, a living/dining area, separate kitchen and utilities room, outside front covered terrace and side open terrace, a small garden area and parking area to side of cottage. As one enters the cottage one is greeted by the welcoming feel in the living/ dining area, with its terracotta tiling with vietri ceramic inlay, the large fireplace runs along one wall and there is solid wooden antique dining table with carved antique wooden chairs next to the large terrace windows which open onto the side terrace. The kitchen is in pale white tiling and is complete and well equipped. The double bedroom has an antique carved bed head and commode and the terrace windows open onto the side terrace.
There is also a front covered terrace providing shade from the sun ideal for outdoor dining or just relaxing
whilst the side terrace is open for sunbathing. There is a small garden, a lemon grove and fruit trees in season
Surrounding area:
The village of Santa Maria di Castellabate is situated in the beautiful and unspoiled Cilento coastline which in turn lies in the Parco Nazionale del Cilento a national parkland reserve which stretches along the coast and inland to the hills of Vallo di Diano. Offering a wonderful combination of wide sandy bays, rocky coves, verdant hillside and natural flora nd fauna. The many sandy beaches around Santa maria di Castellbate were recently awarded the 'bandiera blu' for their clean seas. The village of Santa maria runs parallel to the coast and offers a variety of shops, bars and gelarerias whilst the area boasts a wide selection of good restaurants offering genuine local cuisine. The neighbouring village of San Marco with its picturesque port can be easily reached in a short bus/ car drive.
Excursions:
The medieval village of Castellabate now under the patronage of the UNESCO can also be reached in a short bus/car drive and offers stunning views of the coast whilst one can explore it many hidden alleyways and marvel at its historic architecture.It is still an inhabited medieval village which has conserved many of it original features and boasts such personalities as Napoleon Bonaporte and Leon Cavallo as past guests. There are numerous restaurants in the area serving traditional dishes with home-grown produce and local wine.
There are a wide selection of excursions available and within driving distance of the property: the Amalfi coast with its steep dramatic cliffs and stunning views, the villages of Vietri,Amalfi, Ravello, Positano and Sorrento further afield. The island of Capri can be visited as a day excursion and the historic sites of Paestum (20 min by car) Pompeii (1 hr car) and Velia provide a cultural insight into the historic past of the region.
