Collioure is known as the most picturesque town in South Western France. It enjoys a wonderful Mediterranean climate with 320 days sunshine per year. The town is situated in the foothills of the Pyrenees about 26 km from Perpignan and only 20 km from Spain. The town has a beautiful sheltered harbour with five sandy beaches surrounded by magnificent castles and monuments dating from the 13th to 17th centuries. In the Moure, the old quarter of the town, there are narrow traffic-free streets lined with old houses, shops, restaurants and galleries.
Collioure has attracted many great artists by the quality of the light and the sunny climate. The Fauvism movement was founded here by Matisse and Derain. Picasso, Chagall, and Dali all visited and painted here.
Collioure is situated in the largest wine-making region of the world, the Languedoc-Roussillon. The Collioure wines are known for their intense flavours and robust alcohol content. We call them 'liquid sunshine'.
