Well prepared gite in town centre

  • 4 of 5
We stayed for a week in May and had a really nice holiday. As the details say, it is unsuitable for people of restricted mobility because the spiral staircase runs from ground to top floor (above the bedroom loft).
Unloading is difficult because of the staircase and managing suitcases up or down. If there was access to the shared courtyard for loading, it would make life far easier. The nearest free car parking is 15 minutes away up a steep incline/stairs, on Rue St Pierre. The courtyard is shared with the cottage adjacent (on the right) and with people who live in the flats at the entrance to the courtyard. The lock to the patio door is difficult to lock/unlock due to the barrel moving in the lock (reported).
When you have settled in, you have no real need for a car, We walked through St Valery during our stay and it is possible to eat at a different restaurant each night. It is possible to walk up to the Le Clerc supermarket also.

Private but in the centre of town

  • 4 of 5
A hidden gem indeed!
I was lucky when picking up the keys at the restaurant bar.
Patrice, the local owner of the charter boat was to be my next door neighbour.
He took us directly to the "Chandlers" via the one way street through town..
We would never have found that way in without him but it is simplicity when pointed out.
The best access to the property was from the main st in St Valery.
Skirting the left of the river in town, the one way system leads to the market square which is a car park during the week.
Turn left at the square and back into the town on the one way system. Look for the estate agency on the right, past the bakery.
The estate agency borders a lane enclosed by a very large set of wooden doors with a Judas Gate. Reverse into the lane after opening the doors and you have a private courtyard which you see in the picture.
That's the tricky part done and the rest is excellent.
Lots to see and do in the area. The house is modern yet quaint.
All mod cons and very tastefully done as described in other reviews..y
You are 30yards from the Main St. The railway tour is lovely and the surrounding beaches are HUGE
Alastair was extremely helpful and we enjoyed our stay very much. Thank you

Well presented property in an excellent position

  • 5 of 5
This is a lovely property excellently placed for all the local amenities. As mentioned in other reviews the spiral staircase is extremely steep and difficult to negotiate with large cases/bags and I would not recommend this property for young children or anyone with a mobility issue. That aside it was clean, well maintained, and possesses very good quality fittings. We rented for a week in March and whilst the weather was reasonably warm during the day, we were glad of the underfloor heating during the evenings. The only loo in the property is on the ground floor. St Valery is by far the most charming seaside resort in the area and is full of excellent restaurants. It is also within easy driving distance of the Somme battlefields, cemetaries & monuments. I would cheerfully return.

Hidden Gem

  • 5 of 5
Open the gate on St. Valery's main street and walk into the private courtyard that leads to this hidden gem of a house.
The owners have paid great attention to their guests needs providing everything from the trendy log burner to the four poster bed, the induction hob to the large flat screen TV. All the equipment and fixtures and fittings are of the highest quality, modern and well maintained.
Climb the spiral staircase and exit on the third floor through a door in a flint wall and enter the back streets of St. Valery's fisherman's district, this house couldn't be in a better position.
One word of warning, if you take a lot of luggage enter through the courtyard as the spiral staircase doesn't make it easy to get suitcases up or down.

Excellent Holiday

  • 5 of 5
Fantastic Time. Accomodation was excellent, it was equipped with everything you could ask for. It is really central so once you get the shopping in just sit back and relax. There are 2 supermarkets nearby and also a Lidl store, all of which are very good value. Weather was great 7 days of perfect sunshine. Loads of places to eat great food and loads to do and see. The market on the Sunday is well worth a visit, you could spend most of the time just wondering round. The man who sells the chickens with potatoes is fantastic value, sunday dinner all ready in one go.
Only slight comment would be that if there were curtains or blinds upstairs would be helpful, particularly if you have young children who wake up early.
Looking at next years school holidays as soon as possible to rebook. If you are visiting the area, take details of the other properties in the area as these also look great.

The town is within easy reach of the fine beaches along the Cote d'Opal. Fort Mahon with the Aqualud theme park and the 1920's resort of Le Touquet with water theme parks are worth a visit.

Top class golf courses are available nearby. Calais 90 minutes, Paris 2 hours by car.

The sea is a few metres from the property (not for swimming or bathing).

St. Valery was the point from which William the Conqueror set sail for England and is still a traditional fishing port, On Sundays there is a fine market along the quai for local stallholders and others

. A narrow gauge steam railway operates across the marshes to Le Crotoy
