Santa Fe House Rental Photos and Description

House, 1 Bedroom + Detached Unit, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-7)

Experience the peaceful slow pace of the very convenient South Capitol neighborhood, barely changed in over 50 years. Casita du Soleil is an adobe guest house behind and across the patio from main house on quiet tree-lined street one-half mile south of the Santa Fe Plaza. Relax amid fruit trees, lilacs, roses, herb, and flower gardens. Owner usually in residence to assist in orienting you for your stay. (American francophile - on parle francais.) Dogs allowed. Easy parking.

The detached Casita du Soleil consists of living room (futon couch), dining area seating four, bedroom (queen), full kitchen, bath, and Saltillo tiled floors throughout. Furnishings include treasured antiques, original art. Warm in winter (gas), adobe maintains coolness in summer. Dogs allowed.

Casa de la lune is a one bedroom (queen+twin hide-a-bed) apartment (back wing of main house). Oak floors, efficiency kitchen, AC for bedroom, use of big patio. Dogs allowed.

About The Owner

I own this one property in Santa Fe which has been my home for decades. I love my street and neighborhood and have happy memories of my children playing ball in the quiet streets. I have seen the fruit trees grow from little slips into mature giants producing cherries, apricots, peaches many years. I retired from teaching French in a local high school - then, since beginning to rent my casita, I have enjoyed meeting people from many countries. My guest book/scrap book is full of their photos, mementos and the stamps of their foreign countries. Tiling the bath, kitchen and floors myself was satisfying. My grand daughter says I'm married to my garden - I do work on it!

The Owner purchased this house in 1971

Why The Owner chose Santa Fe

I moved here to be near the old center of this historic town.

What makes this house unique

Casita du soleil is six-tenths of a mile from the Plaza - a flat walk on quiet streets. Three tiny blocks to Sage Bakery, 5 tiny blocks to Whole Foods.

A few minutes to Railyard District of galleries, restaurants, SF Farmers' Market. Tranquility in the middle of everything.

Sweet!

  • 5 of 5

We have been visiting Santa Fe a couple of times a year for the past few years, usually choosing a different VRBO each time in a neighborhood that we haven’t yet stayed in. Except for Diana’s place: we enjoyed our first stay and appreciated the rate and location, so we came back again. Diana was very welcoming, down-to-earth... a genuinely kind soul. Ditto her feline friend Sophie. We are grateful to have had the opportunity to spend time in both the casita and the aprtment. The location is ideal for us, with the easy walks to the Railyard District and downtown Santa Fe, yet also convenient for starting and ending getaways to lands beyond the city.

Great experience!

  • 4 of 5

This lovely casita is a treasure. The neighborhood is fantastic and the proximity to everything you might want or need is superb. We travel to Santa Fe often and find the accomodations quite suitable for our family of four (our children are 8 and 11). The owner was very helpful in helping us find experiences we may not have found on our own.

Cozy apartment

  • 4 of 5

I originally hoped to rent the Casita but it wasn't available the week we were visiting so we ended up with the apartment. The apartment was very comfortable, decorated in kitshy retro 50's-60's appliances and decor. There were just the two of us and there was plenty of room and we had pretty much all we needed. I think it would be crowded for more than 2 people. Diana was very accommodating and offered many suggestions of things to see and do while in Santa Fe. Very convenient location for visiting the historic square, an easy minute walk or so. We enjoyed our visit very much and would definitely rent again if in the area.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review, Karen ..... Mostly positive! I am attached to my mother's furniture - like the lovely carved oak chest - some pieces could use refinishing or a really artistic Santa Fe style decorative color job! Diana

Unfortunate set of circumstances

  • 1 of 5

My family and I had been excited about our visit to Santa Fe. We had paid for a four night stay at this little casita and expected a much better experience and treatment by the owner. The owner seemed not to be very friendly and when we were departing she made a comment which was downright rude that offended my family. My hope is that she was having a bad day. I will go back to Santa Fe but I would not recommend this place to stay.

QUIET AND COZY

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at the Casita Du Soleil. Diana went out of her way to make us feel welcome and she was available when we had questions. We were able to stay in the Casita for 4 nights; then we moved to the Apartment for 2 nights. The move created extra work for Diana but she was more than willing to accommodate our needs. The Casita is a bit more spacious and does have a private patio, but we found the Apartment to be quite comfortable for the two of us plus our two small dogs! Thanks, Diana, for a wonderful visit.

Comfortable, Quiet, Close to Downtown

  • 4 of 5

Spent a week in 1 bedroom apt. when attending conference and sightseeing. I didn't have car and downtown, grocery store etc very walkable. Diana who is very good to deal with gave me lower rate since I was on my own so very affordable. Unit is a little older in terms of furnishings but just fine when out all day and bed comfortable. It is in a quiet residential area. There is also a casita here and although I did not see interior it was occupied much of the time.
