About The Owner

I own this one property in Santa Fe which has been my home for decades. I love my street and neighborhood and have happy memories of my children playing ball in the quiet streets. I have seen the fruit trees grow from little slips into mature giants producing cherries, apricots, peaches many years. I retired from teaching French in a local high school - then, since beginning to rent my casita, I have enjoyed meeting people from many countries. My guest book/scrap book is full of their photos, mementos and the stamps of their foreign countries. Tiling the bath, kitchen and floors myself was satisfying. My grand daughter says I'm married to my garden - I do work on it!

The Owner purchased this house in 1971

Why The Owner chose Santa Fe

I moved here to be near the old center of this historic town.

What makes this house unique

Casita du soleil is six-tenths of a mile from the Plaza - a flat walk on quiet streets. Three tiny blocks to Sage Bakery, 5 tiny blocks to Whole Foods.

A few minutes to Railyard District of galleries, restaurants, SF Farmers' Market. Tranquility in the middle of everything.

Cozy apartment

  • 4 of 5
I originally hoped to rent the Casita but it wasn't available the week we were visiting so we ended up with the apartment. The apartment was very comfortable, decorated in kitshy retro 50's-60's appliances and decor. There were just the two of us and there was plenty of room and we had pretty much all we needed. I think it would be crowded for more than 2 people. Diana was very accommodating and offered many suggestions of things to see and do while in Santa Fe. Very convenient location for visiting the historic square, an easy minute walk or so. We enjoyed our visit very much and would definitely rent again if in the area.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review, Karen ..... Mostly positive! I am attached to my mother's furniture - like the lovely carved oak chest - some pieces could use refinishing or a really artistic Santa Fe style decorative color job!

Unfortunate set of circumstances

  • 1 of 5
My family and I had been excited about our visit to Santa Fe. We had paid for a four night stay at this little casita and expected a much better experience and treatment by the owner. The owner seemed not to be very friendly and when we were departing she made a comment which was downright rude that offended my family. My hope is that she was having a bad day. I will go back to Santa Fe but I would not recommend this place to stay.

QUIET AND COZY

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at the Casita Du Soleil. Diana went out of her way to make us feel welcome and she was available when we had questions. We were able to stay in the Casita for 4 nights; then we moved to the Apartment for 2 nights. The move created extra work for Diana but she was more than willing to accommodate our needs. The Casita is a bit more spacious and does have a private patio, but we found the Apartment to be quite comfortable for the two of us plus our two small dogs! Thanks, Diana, for a wonderful visit.

Comfortable, Quiet, Close to Downtown

  • 4 of 5
Spent a week in 1 bedroom apt. when attending conference and sightseeing. I didn't have car and downtown, grocery store etc very walkable. Diana who is very good to deal with gave me lower rate since I was on my own so very affordable. Unit is a little older in terms of furnishings but just fine when out all day and bed comfortable. It is in a quiet residential area. There is also a casita here and although I did not see interior it was occupied much of the time.

Great apartment - walk to everything

  • 5 of 5
I stayed in the apartment for a week in April. Diana was a wonderful hostess - picking me up at the Sandia Shuttle stop, taking me food shopping, offering ideas on what to see and always offering a ride when going into town. This is the perfect size for one or two people, is very clean and is in a safe part of town. Easy walk to plaza, visitor information, Railyard, and a wonderful courtyard for just staying in. I will definitely recommend this anyone going to Santa Fe - car or no car.

Sante Fe Refuge

  • 5 of 5
We arrived in Santa Fe at 23:00, tired after a long drive from the west that was made even longer by a 2 hour delay due to construction and a truck that had flipped over and caught fire. We knew upon arrival that the casita was going to be perfect for us. The outdoor light softly illuminated the enclosed patio and its surroundings—the fruit trees and bushes in full blossom, the covered swing for two, the decorative table and chairs inviting morning coffee for two, the terra cotta of the adobe abode itself—had an immediate calming effect that would pervade our two weeks’ stay. As we stepped into the casita we felt we were “chez nous”. Although the photos on the website accurately portray the casita indoors—the living room (desk, bookshelves, futon/couch, satellite flat screen TV) merging into the slightly raised dining area, with country-style kitchen to the left, all to be soon shone upon by the natural morning light from the skylights—somehow just being there transformed it into something more than just an adobe. We sensed its history and life-energy. Our two weeks’ stay would confirm our initial impressions.
Diana was the hostess par excellence—possessing the spirit of kindness, intuitive as to our needs, guiding us towards our desired destinations and activities, willing to share a part of herself if invited and always respectful of our privacy. A truly good soul. Et n’oublions pas que notre inestimable hôtesse placote dans la langue de Molière, une véritable trouvaille précieuse dans le désert Nouveau-Mexicain.
Aside from possessing all the comforts and amenities of a home, the casita houses every form of book, magazine, pamphlet and written material one would need to find out what do or where to go in Sante Fe and environs, including all the awesome hikes to pursue. The great plus is that you can walk to the museums, book stores, cafés, restaurants, theatres, art galleries and shops. The most glorious hikes (and we did many) are only a short drive away. But don’t let a few extra miles keep you from great hikes which are extensively described in the hiking books in the casita—Bandolier National Monument including Tsankawi heritage trail, the Tent Rocks and the Kitchen Mesa connected to Georgia O’Keefe’s favourite haunt, the Ghost Ranch.
To say that we highly recommend Diana’s Casita du Soleil would be a gross understatement as you can see from the few words above. Go and find out for yourself. You will not be disappointed.

Owner's Response: Susan and Rob: I knew you were literary when you wrote 2 pages of poetry for my guest book! Thanks so much for your generous review which could become a novel!
