Overview

Tisbury Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Spacious two bedroomed light and airy cottage with open plan downstairs

This charming holiday home is set in the Courtyard of Wick Farm down a small lane off a minor road. It is delightfully quiet and secluded and yet within a few minutes of the small town of Tisbury which has shops and a railway station which has regular services to London, Waterloo. All the main rooms have views across the unspoilt Nadder valley. Tisbury is a great centre for walking and for exploring Dorset. The historic cities of Salisbury and Bath as well as Wilton are easily reached for days out and it is just over an hour by car to the stunning Dorset coast.

The original stone arched door and windows are complemented by hardwood windows and maple floors throughout. The cottage is light and airy with an open plan downstairs and open tread stairs to the first floor. The newly fitted kitchen, double glazing and electric heating make this a great location for year round holidays for families or two couples.

The stables look onto the Vale of Wardour which is an area of outstanding natural beauty. There are lawns in front of the building and a wooded bank to the rear and 10 acres of field surrounding the courtyard. Parking is right outside the door and you can walk directly onto the public footpath.

Many years ago Wick Farm was an active dairy farm of some 400 acres. The present owners purchased the property in 1986 and have lovingly restored the farmhouse and surrounding buildings over many years. The oldest part of the farmhouse dates from about 1680 and The Stables are thought to have been built around 1800. Most of the buildings are constructed from the local Chilmark stone and though formerly thatched now have tiled roofs. There is still the old farm well (padlocked grill) and remains of the old bull pen. The stone troughs are now filled with flowers not water! During the summer months there may be sheep grazing the field but they are kept well away from the property by fences and a cattle grid. It is a thoroughly delightful spot,

About Mrs Anne Evans

Wick Farm is the home of Anne and Nick Evans who live in the farmhouse most of the time. We have spent many years doing up and restoring the property and it is where we raised our 3 sons who now live in London. Every year we do a little more to both the house and garden to improve the place and have a regular redecorating programme to keep both the house and the stables in excellent condition

Mrs Anne Evans purchased this cottage in 1987

Guestbook comments from the owner

Had a lovely time at the Wick Farm. Excellent cottage with brand new furniture and fittings. Lots of light and space. The location was superb with great views over the farms. Will definitely recommend to friends and would like to come back again. A five star weekend

Extremely clean and child and baby friendly

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I and two babies stayed in the stables for a few days while visiting friends and family. Have to say it was perfect for the babies with beautiful picturesque surroundings and only a short walk into the village. The accommodation was spotlessly clean . The views were superb over the surrounding countryside. We did not find anything we could fault with the accommodation as there was everything we needed just like a home away from home really. We will definitely return hopefully some time.

A Fabulous Break

  • 5 of 5

We were delighted to find this wonderful cottage in a lovely quite location. It has been renovated to a very high standard with all of today’s modern conveniences for a really comfortable stay.

We enjoyed touring around the nearby villages and shops and wished we had the time to stay longer! We look forward to coming back again in the future and taking more time to explore the area.

Fabulous looong weekend!

  • 4 of 5

The owners were incredibly helpful with our queries and opened the property prior to their season starting.

The property is in a beautiful spot and is well presented and spacious (which was a pleasant surprise); it is surrounded by a meadow. The village of Tisbury is a short walk away and is delightful. The owners were away but the next door neighbours were lovely and helpful. The train line is nearby, but you can't really hear it.

We would definitely go back.

The Stables - Tisbury, Wiltshire

  • 5 of 5

A sweet homely cottage with all the amenities required for a great holiday. The listing description was very accurate as the cottage was in a beautiful rural setting with lovely walks, offering peace and tranquility. The property was clean, well maintained and welcoming, as the owners had put the heating on in advance of our arrival. We especially enjoyed the added bonus of table football provided in the property. Good selection of pubs close by and we highly recommend The Beckford Arms, Fonthill Gifford, offering good food, using locally sourced produce. We spent a very enjoyable day in Salisbury, strolling around the interesting market, followed by a visit to the Cathedral, well worth a visit. Lovely walks from the doorstep and suggest a stop off at Old Wardour Castle (just a few miles from the property). Leo the cat was always there to welcome us home. Would most definitely recommend this property to friends or relatives and in fact will most definitely revisit.

The Stables is a converted 18th century stables set in the courtyard of Wick Farm which dates from the 17th Century. In the surrounding field is an Enlish Heritage site thought to be the remains of a medieval village.Tisbury is surrounded by wonderful countryside for walking and cycling and there is a footpath leading to a network of local walks 50yards away. There are 3 golf courses within half an hours drive and horse riding nearby. There are many charming country pubs which serve food within 15 mins or less drive, or a great walk, and a wealth of historic homes and sites to visit. The ruins of Wardour Castle, where the film Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, was shot are close by and Stonehenge is a 25mins drive. There is an outdoor pool in Tisbury and a sports centre with a gym and tennis courts.

Further afield most areas of Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire can easily be reached on a day trip and information on all types of outings is kept at the property

Golf: There is a golf course at Tollard Royal, Rushmore Golf Club where non members can pay a green fee
