Surroundings:
Corfu is a very special island. The greenest of all Greek islands due to the heavy rains that fall during the winter. Starting at the house are many possibilities to make long or short walks, through the woods or the mountains or to the seaside. The Corfu-trail, a marked path, passes behind the back yard, a description is to be found on a bookshelf. Especially during spring and in autumn walking is beautiful and quiet. In the summer the early morning is the best hour for strolling around the walking tracks.
Around the house there is a garden of 2000 m2, so you don't really have to leave the property.
Corfy Town is a beautiful old Venetian city, with a Parisian boulevard, English parks, Byzantine churches and Italian coloured houses. A wonderful city to spend many hours. There is an archaeological museum, a museum of African art, a Venetian Fort, Prince Philip's family estate, Sissi's Palace and more. Many possibilities for excursions are offered & all sorts of boat trips.
Sports/golf:
At 15 km, in the Ropavalley is a famous golf club. it has the reputation of being one of Europe's most beautiful courses. The Golf World Magazine wrote: 'The scenery is breathtaking.'
At the seaside, in tourist places you can of course find all sorts of activities: water-ski, sailing, diving, paragliding, biking, just as in every other country. And disco's, café's, quads, internet café’s.
In the valley: horse riding, bicycling. But the best are the beaches: small rocky beaches, large sandy ones, bays and dunes, crowded and quiet but always there is a terrace to sit and have a drink or delicious dinner with fresh seafood. Tips for restaurants and excursions are written in a book in the house.
Excursions:
By boat to the surrounding islands, short trips to Mouse Island and daytrips to Paxos and Antipaxos
To the mainland by ferry: the mainland is very rough and unspoilt. Very different from the charming islands. Ioanina is interesting to visit with its mountain lake, the deep caves, the palace of Ali Pasha and the small island with its fully painted Byzantine monasteries.
Topic of the whole of Greece are the Meteora Monasteries (a 2 day trip), magic places high on almost inaccessible rocks. And a visit to the river of Acheiron, to walk and swim in the river through the gorges of the mythological 'river of the dead'. Another interesting excursion is the daytrip to Albania, to visit the UNESCO-site of Butrinth. An archaeological miracle of an old Greek and Byzantine city.
