Overview

Tournon d'Agenais Farmhouse Rental Photos and Description

La Touffagne is a traditional stone Quercy farmhouse that was built in 1820. It has been extensively renovated in the last three years and has superb views of the bastide village of Tournon d'Agenais (2km) that has a range of local shops, facilities and restaurants. It is set in an acre of well planted grounds, two acres of fields and has panoramic views. The front covered terrace is ideal for al fresco dining having a built-in BBQ.

Accommodation: The main original entrance once opened into the delightful sitting room that has a vaulted ceiling, stone walls and a central stone fireplace with a wood burning stove. A small mezzanine above the sitting room provides an ideal space for relaxing and listening to music, long French doors open onto the balcony that overlooks the pool and has steps down to the pool terrace.

Doors from the front terrace lead into the kitchen (new for 2010) and the dining area. The kitchen has a fridge/freezer, gas hob, electric oven, microwave, coffee machine and toaster. Double bedroom with en-suite shower-room having wc and basin. The upper floor has a second double bedroom with en-suite shower room, wc and basin. The property is light and airy and is tastefully furnished by its Architect/designer owners.

No Children accepted.

The fully terraced pool is 9x4 and has a covered area that retains the old bread oven.

This area opens into a storage/utility room that has a deep sink and washing machine.

Why Garry and Jean Cooper chose Tournon d'Agenais

La Touffagne is a small farmhouse with 360 degrees of glorious un-interrupted country views with magnificent sunsets over the bastide village of Tournon. Its history dates back to 1820. The house was part of the small commune, making bread for the surrounding cottages and there is evidence of grapevines still remaining in the neighbouring hedgerows and crushed shells in the cellar to suggest that wine was “set” on the premises. We are retired architect and designers so the farmhouse has an airy/light feel which we feel reflects the provencal touch which makes it all the more endearing.

The principal cities are Toulouse and Bordeaux. Between these two are major towns including: Fumel: Named after Françoise de Fumel, once captain of the kings guard and Catherine de'Medici's ambassador to Constantinople, it has a good range of shops, supermarkets, restaurants and a cinema. Villeneuve-sur-Lot: A powerful bastide on the banks of the Lot river. Founded in 1264 it has preserved a large quantity of small streets and half-timbered buildings. Close by is a superb 18 hole golf course. Tournon d'Agenais: Pretty Royal bastide village from 1271 and on the route of St Jaques de Compostella with a lovely square and belfry tower superb views, leisure lake, restaurants, small supermarket and seasonal market

Tennis 2km Golf 25km Fishing 2km. Horseriding 5km.

Generally quieter than most regions, the departments covered are Lot-et-Garonne, Tarn-et-Garonne, Lot & Dordogne. there is something is here to suit all the family, including: fishing, tennis, walking, golf, cycling, horse-riding, lake swimming, windsurfing, canoeing and much, much, more. Normally the area has a moderate climate with long Spring and Autumn seasons and Summers that can be very hot. Essentially it is the heart of farming land and you can expect to see lush landscapes with spectacular fields of sunflowers, maize and tobacco and all through the year a wonderful variety of changing colours and hues.
