Valentia is an island in the southwest of Ireland 7 miles off the Ring of Kerry, where the first transatlantic cable to Newfoundland was laid. Valentia Island is on the scenic Skellig Ring incorporating Portmagee and Ballinskelligs. The cottage is 1 mile from the fishing village of Portmagee on the mainland with shops, pubs, restaurants and boat trips to the Skelligs 10 miles out sea. It is the idyllic setting for scenic walks including Bray Head, Geokaun Mountain and Coomanaspig taking in views of the Skelligs; Puffin; Blasket islands; Slate quarry and grotto, lighthouse and Beginish Island. You can also take a stroll in Glanliam Tropical gardens and see the Tetrapod remains near Valentia Radio Station. Shore fishing and deep sea angling are available as are swimming, diving and water sports at the various local beaches and surfing at St.Finians Bay and Ballinskelligs blue flag beach.
