Photos and Description of the County Cork vacation cottage rental 1 Bedroomed cottage, 1 shower room, sleeps 3 people

Rock Cottage 2 is a converted stable building with all modern conveniences on the inside, but preserving its historic character on the outside. It is situated in the walled courtyard/garden of a Georgian hunting lodge dating back to 1826. The property stands on 17 acres of garden, paddocks and heather covered hills. A short walk leads onto a hill, where the stunning views over Dunmanus Bay and the rugged landscape unfold and where a bench allows the visitor to sit and enjoy the magical sunsets. Rock Cottage is a heaven for animal lovers with both pets and farm animals roaming. The setting of the entire property is unique and utterly charming. Tranquility is guaranteed, but it is also close to everything the area has to offer. The ideal location to explore and come back to your home away from home in the evenings.

Peace, relaxation and inspiration

jjaparis Paris France
Review Submitted: November 3, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
The rock cottage in Western Cork is as charming as it is peaceful and relaxing. Fully equipped and extremely clean, the cottage is warm and welcoming. The decor is simple and attractive and very comfortable (except for the bed! A new mattress would be a great improvement). The animals are friendly and love to come visit guests staying at the cottage.

Barbara met us upon arrival and again as we were getting ready for departure. Other than those two times, we really didn't speak with her although I'm sure she would have given us great recommendations had we asked. Having a car is essential at this location and so with the car, we discovered our own favorite viewpoints including Mizen head, and Barleycove beach. Walking is a bit difficult since the roads are so narrow and the ground so wet. Plus, it rained almost every day during our stay. However, outfitted with the right gear, there are good walking paths near Killarney on the ring of Kerry and also on the Sheepshead peninsula. We enjoyed some pub meals at the Longboat in Durrus and the Harborview Hotel had great pub deals in the bar which was in Schull. This part of Ireland is rugged and unspoiled and I would return if I wanted some quiet, relaxation and beautiful scenery.
Owner's Response: Dear Janice,
I am sorry that you did not enjoy your stay at Rock Cottage2 100 %.
We met several times between arrival and departure when I asked more than once weather everything was ok for you.
If I am not told, I can't help to make you more comfortable on the only 2 year old mattress.
As for wet roads and rain in Ireland at the end of October,
I am sorry, but this is beyond my control.
I was glad to have met you and your husband and I hope you will return.

Unbelivable but true -

A superb description on location and facilities. Rock Cottage, with its cosy, snug and warm fireplace, the spaceous rooms - fulfills the dream of anyone looking for a place to relax and enjoy the tranquility of country life. Very well mantained with all electrical appliances and household facilities.
Linens, kitchen towels etc. even detergents readily available.
Barbara a very warm hearted person and her mother do more than justice to this immaculate holiday resort. The villages Schull, Durres, Bantry, Ballylickey, Glengarriff, Golleen, Crookhaven, the beaches, Ring of Beare, Sheep's Head, Mizen Head and a multitude more is a must. Still one of the few spots on this earth which nature has so much more to offer. Incredibly beautiful, with its meadows - sheep and cattle. Fascinating castles, churches, mountains and lakes. Discover for yourself. Highly recommended. The friendly folk and small quaint villages with its lovely cafes and restaurants. We can hardly wait to get back to Rock Cottage , Our first vacation where we really enjoyed nature to the fullest in every respect and relaxed in this mystical and tranquil surroundings.

The Perfect Holiday

Family of Canucks Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Review Submitted: August 30, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
Was it the luck of the Irish? I planned a trip to Cork to explore the land of my ancestors, with my husband and 15-year-old daughter, and my online research led me to Rock Cottage. The building is exactly what you see in the photos, spotlessly clean, and the description absolutely accurate. The property was postcard-perfect: beautifully maintained gardens (the hydrangea took our breath away), and surrounded by gorgeous terrain of meadows, lush vegetation, and rocky hills. We climbed the hill behind the cottage every day to see the incredible 360 degree view of the surrounding countryside, dotted with cattle, sheep and a view of the water.

Our host, Barbara, was helpful and friendly, but allowed us total privacy. We enjoyed the most sensational dinner in her dining room on our last night - where she brought out dishes that were so artistically presented, we were reluctant to spoil the presentation by eating them, but one taste and we couldn't stop.

In the cottage itself, we really liked the bathroom - again, absolutely pristine, and the shower was excellent, something we really appreciated. The kitchen had all the amenities you could ask of a cottage and Barbara had thoughtfully left a stack of brochures on the bookcase for us to pore over to plan our adventures.

You could spend a week just reading in the cottage by the fire, sipping cups of tea or a glass of wine, strolling the fields to feed carrots to the donkeys; you could walk to the neighbour's spa for an amazing full body massage; you might venture into Durrus for fish & chips or to check your email in the hotel pub or sample chocolate or view artwork at the shops; or you might do as we did, using Rock Cottage as the base to explore the peninsulas: Mizen, Sheep's Head, Beara and Kerry. My plan was to take lots of photographs of the rugged seashores, and I got lots of great shots!

I realize we did luck out with the weather which can make a difference: the rain would start only once we were back for the evening, sometimes falling all night, but the sun would come out in the morning just as we were preparing to leave. Truly a blessed holiday - one we will never forget.

charming cottage das traumhäuschen

Review Submitted: July 1, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009

A little piece of heaven on earth........

Derv Dublin
Review Submitted: April 3, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009
This is the most charming, characteristic self catering venue I have ever stayed in. The location is rural and peaceful and the cottage is just perfect with every mod con you would need for your stay. Schull is only 10 minutes away and has cosy pubs, little shops and some nice restaurants. Rock Cottage is the perfect location from which to travel around West Cork. This is a beautiful part of the country and with Rock Cottage as your base, it promises to be a wonderful break away from it all. The fully equiped ktichen and open fire make for wonderful evenings cooking local produce and relaxing by the fire. I cannot recommend the cottage highly enough. 5 nights there felt like a fortnight away leaving us fully refreshed and relaxed. Highly recommended and I'll be going back (if I can get a booking.....!!!!)
