Villa 'Bei Tramonti':

Our modern villa is set among the olive groves beneath the medieval village of Montasola in the beautiful and unspoilt Sabina region of Lazio.

The villa has three double bedrooms, two bathrooms and a large bright open planned living area. It has a private secluded garden and access to more than an acre of olive grove where the swimming pool is located and where you will find of quiet spaces to relax, in sun or shade.

At the front of the villa you have a large sunny terrace with stunning views of the surrounding countryside & hills and often breathtaking sunsets in the evenings.

The villa provides a perfect rural retreat with ample opportunities for enjoying the countryside, hill top villages and local restaurants. It is also within easy reach of Rome and many other towns of Lazio and Umbria such as Tivoli, Orvieto & Spoleto.

About us.: Carla was born in Ravenna, Italy, but moved to England when she was 20 and remained there until coming to Sabina in 2005. Apart from marrying Michael and raising our family of three sons, Carla also taught Italian for many years. On top of this she also managed to find time to develop her artistic talents in sculpting and oil painting. Painting is now her passion although she also enjoys gardening, yoga, running and walking.

Michael was born in London and spent the last half of his career as a lecturer and academic manager in the Business School of a Further and Higher Education College. He now finds time to enjoy his interests in photography and walking as well as maintaining his skills on the computer. He has been exploring the local hills and countryside and organises monthly 'Sunday' walks for local friends. Several of his photographs of the local area are visible on Google Earth.

Walking in Sabina: Sabina is a paradise for walkers of every level.

If you like easy walking, you can explore the quiet country roads and paths in the valley. You can enjoy the splendid views and glimpses of country life as well as the chance to stop off at one of the local villages for a short rest and refreshment at a local bar.

If you prefer something more demanding, you can take to the local hills for longer walks along stony paths with climbs of 500/600 metres where proper equipment and walking experience are a must.

We have spent much time exploring the local countryside and organising monthly walks for our local friends and would be only to happy to provide you with information to help you get the most from your walking.

Sabina, an area of green countryside and medieval hill top villages set against the backdrop of the lower Appenine mountains. It is a quiet rural region with a strong sense of local community and many local events throughout the year, especially in the summer with each village holding its ‘Feste’ with pageants, music, dancing, local art and the inevitable ‘al fresco gastronomia’.

The many restaurants will provide you with an opportunity to savour the local cuisine. In the villages you will also find many bars where you can sit outside with your espresso coffee and cake.

There are plenty of opportunities for sporting activities either in the local countryside or at local sports centres. The activities available include tennis, walking and trekking, cycling and horse riding.

Rome is easy to reach by car or train. An hour’s drive will take you to Orvieto, Todi or Spoleto while Tivoli, Ostia Antica, Assisi and Perugia are a bit further away.

Notes:
The villa commands a stunning view of the valley below and the surrounding hills. A wide staircase will take you up to the main entrance and the spacious terrace with table and chairs for alfresco eating and sunbathing with views of the garden and the valley below. The spacious open plan kitchen, dining room, sitting room and reading area (approx 60 sq metres) is comfortable and luminous with its large panoramic windows. The kitchen door leads directly to a pretty, secluded garden where you can sunbathe and where you will find the BBQ. A glass panelled door separates the living area from the bedrooms and bathrooms. Wireless ADSL connection available for those who bring their own laptop. You are also free to wander around the acre or so of olive grove in which the villa is situated.

Mike & Carla were wonderful hosts. They included us in activities with local friends, including a country walk, an afternoon lunch and a trip into Rome. They were very helpful with maps & directions. They were especially kind in joining us for a trip to meet our Italian relatives.
They did a wonderful job helping with many hours of translation, & phone conversations with our extended family. The accomodations were excellent and met all of our needs. The location was perfect for our trips to Rome by train and Rieti to see family. The views were memorable. We were also fortunate to experience some adopted Italian pets. We highly recommend a visit with Mike and Carla.

Fantastic holiday - thanks Carla and Michael!

This was one of the best holidays we have had. We had three generations with us, Granddad, parents and late teenage/early 20’s sons. The location of the villa was perfect for our needs – very private, set amongst quiet hill top villages but just an easy and cheap train ride from Rome, and with an easy car journey from the airport and to other tourist destinations. The villa itself was ideally laid out – light and airy, open plan, with bedrooms off the living area – set well for families. Views from the pool and the balcony are exceptional. The hosts were perfect in every way, unobtrusive yet available for help when needed. They thoughtfully provided home made bread and supplies for breakfast following a late flight. Carla’s lemon-drizzle cake was delicious and really appreciated on my son’s birthday, and Michael’s jam, pickles and olive oil were first class too. We wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this villa for a perfect family holiday set in rural Italy, but with all the trappings of home (and more!).

Spent just over three weeks in May 2009 in this spacious and well equipped villa which is located in beautiful countryside in the Sabine hills.
