Overview

Mizen Head Cottage Rental Photos and Description

2 Bedrooms, sleeps 4

Dunmanus Pier Cottage is located on a scenic coastal road, halfway between the village of Goleen and the bustling sea side resort of Schull. It is close to West Corks sandy beaches and being on a small fishing pier has beautiful sea views. It is every fishing enthusiast's dream. Wake up to the sound of the sea, watch your children fishing for crabs and buy lobster and prawn from the fishermen. Swim off the pier or go walking across the fields and rocks. Ideal for boat owners. The village of Schull, about 10 minutes by car, offers good shopping, a famous Sunday country market and plenty of pubs with life music. Schull's sailing centre offers weekly sailing courses during the summer. The beach of Ballynrisode, ideal for small children, is just a 5 minutes drive away and the beautiful beaches of Barleycove and the picturesque village of Crookhaven just 15 minutes by car.

Activities: Swimming, surfing, sailing, boating, pony trekking, tennis, walking and golf are all available nearby.

The Sheepshead peninsula offers hundreds of miles of walking trails and the members of the West Cork Garden Trail are opening their gardens to visitors in Spring and Summer.

The Good Things Cafe in Durrus has regular cookery classes during the off season. Many good artists live in our area and their studios can be visited by appointment.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our 4th stay at Dunmanus Pier was, as usual, very relaxing and a delightful break from everyday routine. The first few days were mild but cloudy with the odd shower now and then. The rest of the fortnight was the hottest we've ever experienced here. We spent so many wonderful days on the beach and one day we went out in a boat as far as Fastnet Rock, which is very impressive indeed! On our way out we had some great sightings of whales and a school of dolphins played alongside our boat for quite a while. What a treat for all of us but especially for our 11 year old daughter. Unmans is great in sunshine or in rain, but sunshine is better still.

Zauberhaftes Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Wir verbrachten im April 2012 eine wunderschöne Woche in dem zauberhaften Cottage. Superschön, die direkte Lage am Meer. Wir haben unsere Zeit dort sehr genossen und freuen uns schon auf nächstes Mal.

Cottage is so beautiful and full of character and extremely comfortable

Amazing views of the bay with the fishermen coming and going each day who rescued our football from the sea on 2 occasions!

Great walks from the house up past the castle ruins

Perfect as a central location as a few different towns within a 10 min drive with great coffee shops and wonderful seafood, Friday market in Bantry worth seeing and Barleycove beach is stunning, continue on the Mizen head drive for amazing views!

Loved Crookhaven only a 15 min drive from the house

Would love to return to both the cottage and West Cork!

Cottage at Dunmanus Pier

  • 5 of 5

Absolute bliss - a true Irish cottage where the owners have thought of your every possible need. Located right on the water's edge with not a sound to be heard by day or by night and a short drive from Schull, Goleen, Crookhaven and Durrus where there are plenty of pubs, restaurants and shops. We'll be back!

The perfect week

  • 5 of 5

Thoroughly enjoyed our week at Dunmanus Pier House. It is in a great location. The house is clean and has everything you need with added touches. Great scenery for walks, the fisherman at the pier to watch and some seals. Secluded but still close to Schull or daily latte/chocolate fix. We have come home stress free and would definetely do this one again. Looks like we will have to book in advance...

Super Ferienhaus in traumhafter Lage

  • 5 of 5

The most charming place we have ever stayed!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first visit to Ireland and staying in this stone cottage made our trip everything we hoped it would be. This place was amazing. The location was perfect. We spent 4 nights here and then explored County Kerry. We all felt the highlight of our trip was the time we spent at this cottage and around the Mizen Peninsula. It was beautiful! It's hard to convey the special feelings we felt in this area.

We had two couples in our party. We put the two twin beds in the loft together and thought that was fun. The other couple stayed in the bedroom. We had no problems with privacy.

After exploring the area each day we would settle back at the cottage, start a fire, make a fantastic meal and then play darts, snookers or cards. From the moment we walked inside this cottage we felt at home. We were sorry when we had to say goodbye. I thoroughly recommend this place. The four of us commented how much we want our parents and children to stay here - it's that kind a place.
