About The Owner

I bought and cleared the land, designed the home for my large extended family to enjoy vacations. The house was completed in 2002 and I have enjoyed this part of Hawaii ever since.

Like me, many visitors have not wanted to miss out on this rejuvenating village, away from the crowded streets of town, to discover where the locals come to eat, drink and relax here at Kealakekua Bay with family and friends.

It does not take long for vacationers to soon treasure this place best known to the locals…. for its feeling of being “home”. There is no place like it…

The Owner purchased this house in 2000

Why The Owner chose Kealakekua Bay

Once you are here at our home in Kealakekua Bay, on the big Island of Hawaii..

You can enjoy the sound of the ocean, birds, feel the sweet Kona air…and you don't have to get in the car to enjoy swimming in Kealakekua Bay.. walk to where you want to enter the bay…it is a delightful experience to go swimming with the dolphins in the bay in the morning..

This area of Hawaii is away from the crowds ,, no hotels…just outdoor enjoyment, in the water and out.

If you want to shop, join the crowds..hop in the car go up the road….then return..thankful that you are home again…rejuvenating, renewing being happy again.

We invite you and all who want to respect our home, neighbors, and enjoy the peace of our surroundings.

We all had fun. The house is perfect for our extended group. And the Bay..The dolphins and Kayaking was spectacular! My parent’s held hands and walked everywhere, and enjoyed the sunsets..

Heaven in Hawaii

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I (Judd and Faye) spent a week and enjoyed every moment. The house is beautiful, clean, well decorated just a few steps from the lovely Kealakua Bay beach, a short drive to shopping, the airport, town, and lots of interesting touring. There is so much to recommend about the house and nothing negative. We ate every meal on the deck enjoying the warm breeze and a beautiful view of the beach. We have fond memories, plan to return and have recommended the house to several friends.

P.S. it is fun to watch the Geckos that are plentiful.

Great Vacation

  • 5 of 5
Aloha Anna
Thank you so much for opening you lovely home for another perfect vacation for our family, I appreciate the care and attention to detail which helps made our stay so wonderful. Our extended family group was larger than last year and everyone felt that your home was a perfect, and grateful for walk to Kealakekua bay for my parents. We all love being able walk to the bay in the morning for an early snorkel and come back to the house without getting into a car. It is so cold at home now, so the warmth and beauty of the house and bay will continue to warm us. We love the bamboo floors on the 3rd floor, beautiful.
My parents used the elevator daily, what a great invention.
Looking forward to our return in July.

Mahalo nui loa, Thank you very much, for your stay and care
We look forward to your return. And, yes the elevator has been helpful for several guests. I use is for bringing luggage upstairs and groceries into the kitchen. I agree with you, our home is very spacious to accommodate large groups and families. I just came from being there at the house for 2 weeks and didn’t want to leave. I love listening to the waves coming into the shore at night, the gentle breezes swaying through the palms, and listening to the birds singing. The tropical elements become a meditation for my senses. It feels very healing being there. I love our home and the area, and sharing these wonderful experiences that touch others so deeply. Every story I hear from our guests of how being there at the house while enjoying area, swimming in the warm water at Manini Beach is so amazing and awe-inspiring for their family, it makes me feel that sharing our home has made a dream come true for so many. Hearing these stories from our guests is a gift that is truly heart opening. It’s great to feel that I helped someone feel happy while created happy feelings of connections and fun for their family and friends. What could be better?
Thank you, I’ll keep the light on for your return.
Warm aloha

The Perfect Place!

  • 5 of 5
We looked for quite sometime to find the perfect place for our family vacation and this home really delivered. Three levels really worked out great. The teens loved the bottom floor for themselves. The home was very clean and comfortable feeling like home. Fully stocked with good beds and quality bedding. The patio / lanai was so wonderful. Fully shaded with comfortable lounging chairs and a really great long table. We spent a lot of time out there enjoying the island birds, having meals, playing board games and talking about the fun the kids had at the beach which was like right out of the driveway. The beach was so cool. Lots of tidepools which felt safe for the kiddos but just outside of the tidepools the water opened up for snorkeling and kayaking. There's also a big grassy area with huge trees that provided lots of shade for us when we had our picnics. We came to relax and this was all like a two minute walk from the house. Kona was fun. Good restaurants and shopping. If you're looking for a great place that feels comfortable and not in a tourist area this place is perfect. We Hope it's available for our next trip. The Hawaiian geckos are bright green with like a bright red swatch on their backs. The cutest little things ever just chilling around in paradise.

Caveat emptor - Not as presented!

  • 1 of 5
Rented for our interim relocating to Hawaii and to accommodate visitors for week or two for recorded interviews. The upper room looked promising for meetings and as writing space. Lower guest suite looked promising. The proximity to water looked promising as it had been 20 years since we had last been there.
We were clear with owner that peace and quiet and clean environment were essential. Owner gave us multiple assurances this was the case.
Guest suite featured a filthy area, moldy curtains, lamp shades, dirty bathroom walls, poor window ventilation, and tightly cramped bedrooms, a guest patio was the common area for 4 large garbage cans, a broken table, with black and grey moldy outdoor “furnishings”.
Entire house featured damaged/decrepit furniture, uncomfortable and shredded chairs covered in plastic fabrics, futon of dense industrial recycled materials, corroding and moldy beds, bedroom blinds with dirt falling on the pillows. Two feet clearance on either side of the “king” bed, moldy and dirty curtains lampshades. Outdoor dining on the upper deck had uncomfortable hardwood seating that stains your clothing, grey/black moldy lounge chairs.
Bathrooms tiny and cramped with miniscule tub-showers with damaged shower heads and damaged hot-cold water valve and moldy water.
Upper room has no solar insulation, no sun shade overhang, in April at noon temp would be in low 90F range. Could not be cooled except during night. Not suitable for meetings or group gatherings or reading or writing. Ceiling fans clattered and vibrated and owner had to replace three at our insistence.
Essentially no views, except a narrow segment from the narrow upper balcony trees are overgrown with rats jumping between the fruit trees.
Kitchen area has small black stone topped affair that is hardly a place to “dine” at. Carpeting in house is of decrepit synthetic, badly soiled. Rough stone flooring elsewhere is potentially hazardous. Within a few weeks leaking kitchen sink drain gave way. Hired handyman was to leave us without a kitchen sink since he didn’t want the bother fixing it in the afternoon.
The bay is increasingly polluted, less marine life, coral. Dolphin swims require 1-2 mile swims through clouds of stinging organisms. Houses packed around each other. Dogs barking howling all hours, people in and out like highway motel. Most properties are not owner occupied and are rented at high prices.
Photos in ad are several years old when house recently furnished.

Owner's Response: Many wonderful guests have enjoyed our beautiful spacious 5 bedroom home, at Kealakekua Bay for years sharing only favorable reviews. We welcome guests, large extended families, and groups from around the world.
These folks apparently had another agenda. They told me, through extensive emails that if I didn’t pay them they would post negative reviews. This has all been recorded and reported. Our property manager, gardener, handymen and others tried to satisfy them but it was utterly impossible. My caretakers reported that they have never been treated in such abusive ways as did these individuals yell and treat them. We have never had this experience ever before.

Delightfully, the next group who rented our home days after these folks were gone, renewed our sense of humanity, and contacted me immediately saying how wonderful and happy they were with our home and area.
And sent this email 3 days after they arrived: “Oh Anna, mahalo!! Your home is amazing! We are settled in and have been snorkeling several times already...” Angie K.

Many groups and extended families continue to enjoy our home, and come year after year. We take great pride and care of our home and want all of our guests to be happy and enjoy their vacation. Letters say, thanks for sharing such a wonderful home that has provided us one of the “best vacations” of lifelong memories for our children and grandparents. Thank you so much.

We are thankful to provide comfort to our guests, and appreciate being told immediately if anything is broken or needs to be cared for, so that we can take care of it as we have and will continue to do.
Our house is not just a rental, it is our home which we love and care for. We are grateful for being able to share our home with others who come and enjoy this amazing area of Hawaii.

Paradise with the Fishes

  • 5 of 5
Such a fantastic place for snorkeling and swimming. The clarity of water and variety of fish was unbelievable. We were in the water everyday.

Loved the house and its amenities.....beautifully decorated and furnished. It really made us feel at home in the island surroundings......a great assortment of books and Island information giving us all we needed to explore the Big Island

Having been here numerous times over the past decade, it is by far our favorite place to stay. Always find new places and things to do everytime. This trip we were delighted to find some of the best local restaurants nearby in the town of Kealakekua. Also the coffee co-op and the plumeria farm just up the street make staying here such a treat.

Totally Inspiring

  • 5 of 5
Our stay was a balanced combination of relaxing and exciting. As a chef I found everything I needed in the kitchen for cooking as well as fine dining. The owner also provided furniture for comfortable lounging and equipment for snorkeling - which we did at the incredible nearby beaches. The coral reefs were amazing! We even experienced the miracle of swimming with the dolphins and turtles.
The house was clean, spacious and well maintained and the artist in me was aesthetically pleased. We slept comfortably and peacefully and awoke to the beauty of the birds and the flowers.
For additional entertainment I would recommend an evening at the ukulele bar sipping the local brew and tasting the appetizers they offered. We listened and participated in making music with the exceptionally friendly native musicians. Also, we went to a couple of nearby restaurants suggested by the owner (sorry I can't remember the names) and very much enjoyed our meals. At times the environment inspired me to write poetry and to be introspective. I would definitely return to stay in this perfect vacation rental. The only shortcoming was not planning to stay long enough.
