The peak district is a walker’s paradise. We are extremely fortunate to live in one of the many beautiful parts with stunning walks by the river and through the dales. Millers Dale benefits from being one of the least known about Dales and consequently is unspoilt in its beauty. We are on the Monsal Trail an amazing pathway to Buxton and Bakewell. Chatsworth is one of England’s largest stately homes and is open to visitors nearly all year. The house and gardens are fabulous and only 20 minues from The Barn. Matlock, Bakewell and Buxton are all within easy reach.

What A Lovely Holiday!

Review Submitted: September 15, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
We stayed at The Barn from 5th to 12th September 2009, having had a really good experience with the booking procedure. When we arrived the Barn looked fabulous and so CLEAN. The lamps were on so it all looked very welcoming. There was wine (a good one too!), milk, eggs, bacon, beans, cornflakes, marmalade, etc - the list is pretty long! Having given us time to settle in, Kevin arrived to show us where everything was and how everything worked. On the Sunday morning we were presented with the most wonderful warm, fresh loaf of bread - just in time for breakfast too. The Barn is just as good in "person" as it is in the brochure - especially the lovely bathrooms and huge, pretty and well furnished bedrooms - and the whole barn so well equipped - there's nothing you could want for, although I'm sure if you could think of something then the Stanley family would provide it as they're attentive and thoughtful hosts.

It's a good location for visiting the wonderful attractions of the Peak District. We'd recommend Chatsworth (especially the gardens), High Peak Cavern, Eyam village, Castleton, Bakewell (though not on a Monday unless you like markets) & Monsal Head. We walked some of the Monsal Trail with the dog - it's at the back of the Barn and is easy walking - my 76 year old mother in law managed very well. If you don't want to go up the steps you can just drive up the hill towards Wormhill and park at the old station which is actually on the trail (Car park charges apply till 6 p.m).

Great pubs quite near as well. Red Lion at Litton and Barrel at Bretton are especially good. The dogs were made welcome everywhere we went and we met some wonderful people. Only disappointing place we visited was Wirksworth - run down & nothing much there despite what the brochure says.

The Stanley family are perfect hosts. They were so very helpful and pleasant (without being intrusive) and have clearly renovated and furnished the Barn with love and care.

Would we recommend it? Only to people we know wouldn't want to go at the same time as us because we definitely plan a return visit and wouldn't want to risk losing out! Seriously - we would thoroughly recommend this property to anyone with confidence.

Just Perfect

Review Submitted: November 25, 2009 Date of Stay: November 2009
We've just had a very wet but very enjoyable weekend in The Barn.
This is such a lovely property which has obviously been lovingly renovated to a very high standard and with a great deal of thought to the finishing touches so you immediately feel at home. Ruth and her family couldn't have been more helpful and provided many fresh provisions and a nice bottle of wine to get us off to a good start. They then left us to it but were always available if we needed anything.
The weather was pretty atrocious but we still managed to get out for a couple of walks and the local countryside is stunning. Having small children we spent quite a lot of time indoors due to the weather but there was plenty of space and ameneties to keep children (and adults) occupied (TV, wireless internet, playstation, DVD's, games, books etc etc).
The propoperty is beautifully presented, clean, furnished to a very high standard and just ooses character. It's an ideal place to relax and be cosy when the weather's poor.
I would highly recommend The Barn, any time of year, rain or shine. Despite the detailed brochure description it definately exceeded our expectations and we hope to be back again next year.
Owner's Response: Thankyou so much for your feedback, we appreciate it very much. I am really pleased that you enjoyed your holiday despite the weather.... We look forward to seeing you and your family and friends again. Have a wonderful Christmas and a New Year,
Ruth and family.

Home from Home

Review Submitted: September 26, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
This home is superb, it has been tastefully renovated and has lots of personal touches that make you feel like you are at home, The house is always clean and tidy and the rooms are all finished to a luxuriously high standard. It's the smalll things that matter and the homemade bread along with the welcome breakfast items and wine are a very nice touch.

Ruth and her family are very welcoming and are always happy to help and suggest days out or places to dine etc,

We would recommend this property to anyone who wants to visit Derbyshire, it is in a fantastic location and centrally located for visiting both Buxton and Bakewell plus the surrounding area.

Other attractions nearby include Chatsworth House which was fantastic, Matlock for the cable cars, Alton Towers is about an hour away, there is plenty of walking and cycling nearby with the Monsal Head Trail on your doorstep.

We would recommend the Waterloo Inn for somewhere nice to eat the staff were friendly and the steaks were excellent (especially on a Thursday night as they are 2 for £10) The Anglers Rest pub is a 5 minute walk and serves good food and ale.

This was our second visit to this home and we will be back again soon, There is so much to do in this beautiful part of the world that one week is just not long enough, but we have done different activities this time and we will do even more next time.

Definately deserves it's title as a "Home from Home"
Owner's Response: Thankyou so much and we are so glad you enjoyed your return stay. It was a pleasure to welcome you and your family back and we hope to see you again in 2010.

Perfect Peak District location

Review Submitted: September 16, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
Millers Dale is the perfect location for exploring the Peak District. The information sent in advance was comprehensive, accurate and useful! The accommodation is great, thoughtfully furnished to suit families of all ages. We had a toddler with us, the house and decking were very safe for her. Ruth was on hand if we needed her, but was not intrusive in any way. The welcome package was much appreciated. We found the accommodation to be beautifully clean, and the living area was furnished in such a way as to make you feel at home. A lovely place to spend a holiday.
Owner's Response: Thankyou, we are so glad you enjoyed your stay.
