The owners love to listen to the sound of the waves a night and sit on their lanai and gave at the turquoise blue waters of Kapoho Bay and the ocean just steps from their house.

Dark, starry nights. Cool Hawaiian tradewinds. Fresh Air! The tropical landscaping - coconut palm trees, naupaka, the sweet smell of plumeria.

Our 35th Wedding Anniversary was spent here for 15 Days.

My wife and I decided to rent this house for our 35th wedding anniversary. It was fabulous and everything was as stated in the listing. The house sits about halfway between the Champagne pond and the Kapoho Tide pools. When we wanted to snorkel we just walked to either spot and spent the morning snorkeling. If you plan on snorkeling and want to see more fish, I recommend you go to the Kapoho Tide Pools. If you go to the outer pools, many fish and lots of larger types are there. From the house we went to the volcano and took the Paradise no doors helicopter ride over the volcano, great ride and great pilot. We hired Scott from tours by local to go up and see the sunset from the top of the volcano. He also took us to a remote lava tube and also to a green sand beach. This was a personalized tour and was great. We went deep sea fishing in Kona with Captain Alan of the Hapa Laka boat. He did great and we caught 9 mahi-mahi, and missed out on about a 400# marlin. There were many evenings spent on the lanai just looking out at the water and relaxing. We did have a small water leak around the garbage disposal and was really impressed how quickly the maintenance man responded when we called about it. It's a very big house and we just used the main floor, but you could have 3 couples here easily and have plenty of room. There are three floors and from the very top loft you have a great view, just like from the second floor lanai. We went into Pahoa for dinners at both Ning's and Luquins Mexican food. Being from Arizona, I favored the Mexican food restaurant a little more than the thai one. I know Ken's pancake house gets all the rave reviews. Do yourself a favor and instead go to the Hawaiian Style Café in Hilo. Don't order two of their pancakes because you won't be able to eat both of them. Take my word for it,lol. Best breakfast on the island by far. This is the second house we have rented in Hawaii from VRBO and we have been very happy with both of our choices. We left a new guest book for any new renters and hope they feel free to leave comments or thoughts as we have done so. Mark and Ron as the owners are very gracious and let you know that if you need anything, all you have to do is call them up. Mark and Ron, thank you both very much for having us as guests in your house and we hope to be able to come back again sometime. Mahalo, Dave & Shirley S.

Memorable Christmas in Kapoho

This was the first time I had visited Hawaii for the Christmas holiday, and what a wonderful time we had. The location is excellent. Every morning I would enjoy my coffee on the lanai while watching the waves roll in. The house was clean, and provided all the supplies we needed. We did not have TV reception during our stay, but we were so busy, we didn't miss it. My grandchildren went swimming every day. either at the Champagne Pond the warm pond at Pohoiki or Kehena Beach. I definitely recommend Kaleo's Restaurant and Ning's in Pahoa.

Great place to stay! ...

This place is known as the hexagon house and has quite a history. It is older but it's lots of fun and has everything you need for a great stay. You can't ask for a nicer area. It's a gated community with friendly neighbors. You are within a mile of two incredible snorkeling sites, the tide pools and the Champagne Pond: Volcanically-heated water, sea turtles, crystal clear water, beautiful fish, colorful coral - WOW!. A few more miles west down the coast is the public hot pond, a very large volcanically-heated swimming area. Then keep on going west along the coast and you see beautiful rain forests with tree-covered roads, black sand beaches, ending at a recent lava flow from Kilauea (there's a great place to grab a burger there too). The little town of Kapoho is about 7 miles away where you find great restaurants, with fine dining for a very reasonable price. We loved Kaleo's (American), Paulo's Bistro (Italian - our favorite, incredible food and delightful personal service!), and Ning's (Thai). Here you can really relax, get away and have a wonderful Hawaiian experience that even some people living on the Big Island don't know exist. Last comment. Be sure to read the stories of everyone who has stayed at the hexagon house. What great times people have had here over the years.

"We loved our stay at the Hex house, esp. the ocean breeze, beautiful view, and quiet neighborhood at night. It's far from the traffic in Hilo and Kona. Wife is a former Hilo girl, so we have been to the Island a number of times, but this was a unique experience. Swam with a sea turtle! No need for AC - ocean breeze is free and environmentally clean." - Jan and Naomi Nelson
